If Trumpeter makes one, I'll buy one (or two...).

I saw this video and thought it's probably gonna be popular round here, I do wonder though why Trumpeter never made this in 1/32nd scale? Perhaps now China has them they will.

Dre, please stop being so humble; you're stuff is very good. I know that's subjective but I think most here would agree. I believe it helps us to get better though when we have a more critical eye towards our own stuff. that being said, keep dong what you're doing!

Dre isn't the only one in the GB there were many of you guys, now get with it, if you have no pictures at least a post to let us know how you're getting on, come on for gods sake!!!!!

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words Dean, but this is not anywhere close to my best work.   Once I had a clear deadline, it was quick and nasty on the finish- that MiG-21MG that I did is a better finished and executed model than this one and I'm not too proud of that one either.

The Frogfoot Su-25B that is for the ground Attack GB is going to be great-I've been thinking of a lovely brown/green camo for it.   The MiG-29M that I've started may well get a finish similar to that one in the photo as that's too good of an extreme example to pass by.   And finally..  the Su-27UB C that I've got going for my own GB is going to be much better for the lessons learned on this one.

Yeah, I'm still a BIG Russian Jet Groupie!

There's no rust on this Russian...  ain't nobody got time for that!   8 hours of straight decal work last night and they're done.   I've got to seal in a few of them with Future and once that's dry it'll get an acrylic dullcoat mixed with a light grey to give a more faded, weary look.  Almost done....

It isn't official until it wears the Sukhoi Archer....

and even the missile rails get decals although I didn't put them on the inside surfaces..   I need to paint the guide rails a bright metal color and that should be it.

Well Ive a 11 hour day of work tomorrow so see you guys later, keep up the good posts as we are finally on top again after a lull, I am just going to get a new camera Friday and WILL post some decent pictures, It is looking good I have to say, though adding rust to a jet doesn't seem right, but it's there so, so be it.

I feel your pain when it comes to the extra long days at work. We never seem to have enough time for our real interests, i.e., model aircraft! As far as the rust goes, I agree that it's just not right on US Air Force birds but Russian......well that's another story.

Lol yeah you do get em, man these Revell decals look great but man theyre damn thick, even with Revells decal soft solution they don't settle into the recesses, post shading should sort that out though.

Thanks, but I think that the first camo pattern was better than how it looks after the touch-ups....  everything about this particular model is a PITA, so I'll be happy to see the last of it on Thursday.

Nice man, really fantastic looking, when I paint aircraft like that I never wanna spoil the super brand new finish, but then cant help myself.

The enamels are nice, but I still had a lot of paint pull off the plastic when I removed the fin and wing masks...  a few decals on it for color, I'll finish the decals tonight and start detail painting stuff.

From the lessons I've learned on painting this one, my Su-27UB C ought to turn out much nicer.

AGREED!!!

Dre - thrown' paint now!! (and lots of it at that scale!) Man I wish I had easier access to MM enamels, always had good luck with them.

Got a question for anyone who would know, I have seen people use colour modulation, I believe as far as I know it is dots of colourful oil paint all blended together with white spirit and dragged the direction of gravity. Has anyone done this? If so how did it work out? I really need to make my mig heavily weathered as by the looks of it, it got left outside for years and took quite a beating from nature.

I've seen it explained & demonstrated, it makes sense to my "graphic designer's brain", but I have yet to try it. Not only would it fade/weather the underlying paint, but it should also help blend various camo colours. Need to grab a handful of oils & give it a shot one of these days.

It will take some aggressive work to replicate that.  That clear Smoke is the thing for easy post paint shading and it plays well with Future.

The masked painting is done and I had to do a bunch of touch-up work with the 3 camo colors to fix really nasty bare spots where the tape pulled the paint off...  pics later when the dust settles.

When you see the pictures you will see what I mean as the exact colour is quite hard to determine, I have not seen such worn out paintwork on an aircraft.

Well what seems to be the case is that Revell have done a blue/grey camo, but the real aircraft tjat Revell used was grey/dark grey as you see in the picture. I have faded the blue and it actually has taken on a worn faded look, as I used smoke to highlight the panel lines foe the first time which gave pleasing results. It's sort of trial and error with the paint but the paint is so weather beaten in the walk around pictures it actually looks even better when I make a slight mistake, its weird. I will post the likn so you can see what I mean as the picture I posted doesn't illustrate this well.

Thanks guys, I'm pleased with it so far.   Personally, and IMHO, the Flanker is the best looking modern-era twin engine jet period.   To me, its lines embody the idea of 'strength in beauty'.

Going to start masking in a minute, I think that I might use some sort of grey paint instead of  the white for the nose cone and panels...  this model is more of a paint guinea pig than originally intended.

Nice work there Dre. I have to agree with Dean , the Flanker is a sharp looking aircraft, maybe IMHO the best looking Soviet/Russian fighter of all.

The Flanker is such a good looking plane Dre. I have to say the real mig does look a bit like a model, which is an unusual way about things. I think I have done the dark grey camo wrong as it is a very pale blue, it looks great but isn't right, so I think I might just keep it anyway as Revell have painted theirs grey and blue. I will get some quality pictures today and get them posted either tonight or Wednesday when I'm next off work.
