Mustang Build starts Feb 1 2015 - July 31 2016
Posted by modelcrazy on Friday, January 23, 2015 10:57 AM

I've been thinking about this for a while, so I talked to a couple of other members who reignited the idea, honed the idea, and encouraged the idea. I know there is a lot of stuff going on and coming up, but I wanted to get this idea out there.

So here it is.

I have been wondering why there hasn't been a Mustang Group Build, at least a search doesn't come up with one (I'm sure there was one as some time).

So here are the rules:

Anything with the moniker of “Mustang”. This would include the car, plane, horse etc.

Any scale, any material.

“What if’s” OK

Crossovers OK

WIP pix a must

Starting Feb 1 2015.

It will last 18 months from the start date. This will give members plenty of time to join and complete a build.

CodyJ  is co-host

Our IPMS president just finished a horse and brought it to the meeting this month. Looked pretty good too.

Theuns and Jelliott, I have you down.

We will start as soon as we get a couple more entrants. We have 4 at the moment.

The build would 18 months so there's more than enough time. We didn't want to step on any current builds but stake our claim.

"Twister" would be a cute badge for anyone doing the 4 footed version...............Big Smile

Found her.....didn't want a ';run of the mill" fighter. Was looking for a kit of Strega, but ran across   a 1/48 of the old Hasagawa  Miss America, the '94 unlimited gold unlimited winner at Reno.  Will be done OOB

That will be fantastic. I try to get to Reno every couple of years, and really enjoy going to the pits.

My grandson in front of Srega

 Rare Bear

 And of course, Miss America

I got there in either 69 or 70 as a field trip in the aviation class I was in in high school.(grew up in Quincy, had two sisters in Reno/Sparks)  Had Blue Angles there, loved the Pitts and the unlimiteds.  Bob Hoover was the absolute show stopper for me with his routine in the Aero Commander Shrike.  Kill both engines and feather the props in the loop and grease it on dead stick.  I think DG was still flying his Bear then too, gear was raised with nitrogen and dropped and locked with gravity and a quick shake.

Kit paint scheme is different from your pic.  Some scallops in the blue  and ed on the tail but no "swoopy" lines on the profile, and wings are scalloped and starred.

Yeah, the schemes have changed some through the years. Like Rare Bear, way different.

Miss America won the Unlimited Silver when I was there in 13. Voodoo won the Gold last year.

That will be a very cool build.

I remember when Bob "Hurricane" Hannah was piloting the #55 Voodoo Chile.  I saw it at the Caldwell Airport once when he flew it there.  He has a ton of stuff on his walls in his private hangar on his island between Middleton and Caldwell.
