Wow, now that's cool! I have the 1/48th Dragon 229 but it's nothing like that detail-wise. Amazing kit and fantastic job building her Toshi.

BTW: Somehow I missed you post on living in Hawaii, all I know about it is watching too much Magnum P.I. I wanted to move there when younger but didn't figure I could find a boss who'd supply me with a Ferrari as a company car... Wink

That seems to be the basic comment in that the Dragon 229 is not as detailed as the Zoukei Mura, so says the FSM members that have built the Dragon 229 kit.

TV shows like Magnum PI and Hawaii 5-0, is just a glamorization of Hawaii. As for a boss supplying you with a Ferrari?  I'd need more than that to be able to move back home.  LOL!

My daughter just went for a interview in Columbus, Ohio for a comany called Zulilly.  There's talks of us moving to Columbus.  Zulilly is looking for a in house photographer.

I'd personally would love to move to Columbus as they actually have a Japantown.  As for Cleveland, the Asian center is more Chinese specific.  On the extreme side of things, I told Mrs. Toshi I want to move to either Taiwan, Vietnam, or Cambodia.  The cost of living there is mind boggling as well as the American dollar is very strong in these countries.

Southeast Asia seems idyllic at best.  Either that or somewhere like South America.  Rio is of great interest to me.  Unlike 20 years ago, you can now buy everything within a touch of your fingers on sites like eBay and Amazon.  So in reality, you can live anywhere you want and have consumables delivered to you.  You gotta love modern technology.

Lol, I figured it was a bit of Hollywood glamorizion of Hawaii there!

Good luck if you go though the move, I've never been to Ohio but it seems like a nice place to live. Funny I think I've only met a handful of Japanese-Americans in my life. Around here the Asian-Americans I know are probably about 50% Chinese ancestry, 30% Korean, and 20% various Mongolian, Thai, Laosian, Cambodian etc.

Thank you Gamera.  Ohio is one of the best states that I've ever lived at, as it's a very family orientated area.  The people here are very kind and laid back.  You know everyone by their first names.  Now that my children are adults, it's just Mrs. Toshi and I.  The only thing that can keep us here in North East Ohio is our grandchild.  That's really not a bad thing at all.

Your portrayal of Asian Americans is absolutely accurate percentile wise.  People like me being a 4th generation Japanese American are far and few between.  Add to that, that my grandson will be the sixth generation, is a miracle at best.  Thank you so much for this dialogue, I've come to learn and appreciate this.  Before my accident, I was a go go kind of guy.  I now know that every once in awhile, you truly need to stop and smell the roses!

To my fellow forum members,

The HO 229 is almost at the completed stage at this point.  I was thinking on leaving just the wing spars, without adding the exterior skin.  It gives the HO 229 a sense of uniqueness.  I'll have more pics to show when I've completed this build.  Thank you forum members for the read and reply.

And here I thought this kit might slow you down a bit. Ha ha.

We did a couple nights in Columbus last summer for the IPMS Nats. I was quite impressed with the town and should you end up there I can't see how you would be disappointed, Toshi. I'll bet the weather is even a tad bit better down there.

From personal experience, I very much understand your attraction to a Japan-town and Japanese population.

You model is looking very good.

This build was very complex.  I did a ton of dry fitting.  More so on this kit as it's a see through build.  LOL!  I would love to live in Columbus.  The area I would like to dwell in is called Polaris.

You are correct once again, the winters down south are no way near the type of snow fall accumulation is concerned in north east Ohio.  I just miss the food more than anything.  Thanks for the visit!

I've seen this model built before where half of it was painted and the other half left clear. Not so sure you want to do that, but the execution was neat.

It does look like its coming together really well, my friend. All of that interior detail is almost overwhelming in its complexity.

Well done. Well done indeed.  :)

That's an idea my daughter and I discussed.  Paint half of the Horten and leave the rest visible.  Thank you sir for the read and reply.

It's a lot of fun watching this bird come together Toshi. Just the idea of putting together the frame as you described near the beginning of this thread gave me a slight headache Smile but the work you've produced so far is a delight to view.

Is painting half of it actually under consideration?

Thank you 1943Mike.  It is a definately a "headache" as you so rightly describe.  Yes, painting half of the 229 is definately an opinion for now.

To my fellow forum members,

I've taken a brief sabbatical, my mind wants to go 100 miles an hour but my body says no.  LOL!  This week of much needed rest has allowed me to contemplate whether or not on how the HO 229 should be completed.  Call it a self imposed exile into the ether.

Like an ancient sage in an ashram, I had to reach deep down in my soul to open the Akashik records to visualize the HO 229 in it's completed state.  LOL!  The only sage around here is the herb to which will be utilized in seasoning a roasted chicken!  LOL!  Or should I just astral project myself into to the future to see my completed model?  LOL!  I don't think astral projection is needed at this time as this Zoukei Mura kit has already given me several out of body experiences!

Do I paint the entire aircraft?  Do I paint only half of it?  Do I leave it as such and call it a day?  My daughter says to paint half of it, Mrs. Toshi would like to see the HO 229 right wing to be completed while the left wing should be allowed to only show the wing spars.  I'm considering a completed model kit with just no paint.  Questions after questions delve deep into my inner soul or is that just gas!  LOL!  LOL!

Whatever or however this will conclude will only be and will be an infinite continuous series of how.  Am I having fun?  Oh yah!  Below are a few shots of how far I've come to at this point.  I must truly add that this build has taken the longest amount of time for me to ever complete a model kit.

That sir was and is still a consideration as well as a solid option on how I feel about completing the HO 229.  Honestly, I think it's just such a cool looking kit that it won't really matter how, where, when, nor why, I should finally finish the Horten.

I can say with confidence that I'm even more excited now as I just received earlier this week, my next build of which will be the Zoukei Mura SWS "Super Wing Series" 1:48 No.1 (Their very first kit) J7W1 Kyushu Shinden (Magnificent Lightning). Thank you sir for your interest in my very meager builds.

Here is the left wing with it's transparent skin.  Honestly, in my humble opinion, it looks fantastic either way.  Since I have a total 3 clear spruce, I'll continue with the right wing and slowly but surely take everything in set increments.  Inch by inch.  If I don't like it, I'll just take it apart, take a few steps back and contemplate on where and how I'll move forward with this build.  Or I can just go into a self imposed exile.  LOL!

As you can see, step number 30, page 15 has the instructions in regards to drag rudder air brakes.  What's interesting is that these drag rudders are based in strategic areas around the 229 with the largest drag brakes positioned at the tail bottom of the HO 229.  Very cool looking, if I may say so.

Those ZM models are works of art. The details are just fenomenal. I have seen the 1/32 Shinden and it's just incredible the intricate level of detail it has.

Looks like you have taken the bull by the horns with this project and you are doing one heck of a fantastic job.
