Toshi

Get the 1/48 Tamiya Pfeil. It's a great kit with nice details and an excellent fit.

Toshi, I built this same kit a couple years ago. I recall having a number of problems fitting some of this detailed interior together. Most of the detail will not be visible at all once you close it up, but if there are any fit problems inside, those will be revealed by poor fit of exterior panels.

That is what plagued my build of the Shinden Kit. I dry fitted everything multiple times and was satisfied that I had determined how everything should go together, but when it came time to glue parts, I did begin to notice alignment problems.

Pay attention to the guns. They may appear perfectly aligned but when you go to fitting the panels around them, that is where you will see a big alignment problem in the way those panels go together. At least for me that was the problem I had, and it was impossible to fix properly.

After I posted this, I scrolled through some more of your photos. It looks like you have done an exceptional job in avoiding this kit's numerous problem areas. Well done!

I'm now at the point in that I can spray Tamiya Liquid Surface Lacquer Gray Primer, that's a mouthful.  LOL!  Once this dries, I'll take some 1200 grit sandpaper to clean up the Shinden.  Until then, wish me all the luck!  Thank you so so much forum members for taking the time in your interest on my meager builds, especially with everyone's very busy schedule!  Once again I can't thank you all enough.

I originally taught I purchased the Tamiya Pfeil only to realize it was the Revell of Germany kit.  I was having a really (TBI) bad day that day but, it all worked out In the end and I had fun!  LOL!

I will definately take your advice and I will do a WIP here on this build in a new thread.  Thank you my friend for the heads up!

Thank you Aggieman for the heads up.  What you described here is exactly "verbatim", what I had to struggle through as well.  What's going on, it's the end of the world?  LOL!  No it wasn't that bad but it was a challenge at best.  A great challenge that kept me moving forward at least for myself pride and joyfulness.  If not, at least to make sure it was exceptable in the eyes of yourself and fellow forum members of whom are my family!  Thank you my friend for your warning and direction.  It means so much to me!  Also thank you for the read and reply!

Toshi: You continue to make great progress there!

Aggieman: Thanks for the head's up. When I get around to building mine I think I'll try just 'tacking' everything in place with the smallest amount of cement possible in case I need to rip something apart and then hitting it more cement when I'm sure it's in the right place.

Thank you Gamera,

I got the opportunity yesterday to just spray the Tamiya Liquid Gray Surface Primer on and today, the fueselauge bottom base coat of MM Gull Gray was sprayed on.

My day was spent cutting out a mask for the top and bottom coat demarcation line.

Instead of a light AB demarcation line between the to color points I noticed that the Shinden has utilized a solid line.  This evening I put a coat of MM Clear Gloss Acrylic to the bottom half of the fueselauge to protect the MM Gull Gray from any scratches or imperfections.

I should have a progress report shortly.  You are a very good friend doomo arigato!

Thank you my friend!  For the next couple of days, I'll be working on putting down the base coat on the Shinden.  Thank you so much for your continued vigilance in my builds.  This inspires me to do better and better!

Wings on backwards!!! Big Smile

Thanks Allan, I needed a good laugh this morning!

I can see some modeler trying to put the wings on the other direction since that's 'how they're supposed to be' and they won't fit!

To my fellow forum members,

I've finally laid down some paint on the Shinden.  I had a cracked molar and had it extracted.  This had me out for a couple of days, just like my molar!  LOL!

I hand painted (I didn't like my NEO AB spray as it was splattering.  I need a new needle and a nozzle for my NEO by Iwata from Hobby Lobby.  I have a siphon AB from Harbor Freight Tools and another NEO.  It's a NEO Pistol Grip Gravity Feed TRN1 AB.  I felt I could improve on my hand brushing skills.) the entire Shinden top and bottom with Vallejo Acrylics and finished off the gloss coat with MM Clear Gloss also done by brush.  I'm going to do some minor clean up work then paint and assemble the landing gear.  I'll have another update for that as well!  Thank you forum members for visiting this thread as well as the many others in the past.

Thank you my friend!  Yes, I completely agree with your statement. Mrs. Toshi got me the NEO TRN1 Gravity Feed Pistol Grip not only as a back up but I wanted a pistol grip AB.  The siphon (Chinese made) Harbor Freight Tools AB was part of my compressor purchase that included the siphon feed.

I could have gone straight to the NEO TRN1 but I decided to better my skill set in hand brushing further.  The last time I hand brushed a model was my Monogram King Fisher.

I think I did well with brushing the Shinden.  I was able to limit any brush streaks by adjusting the Vallejo Acrylic paint with Vallejo thinner and the use  of my hand and brush stroke in an angle.  Also the limit of how much paint to use on the brush tip helped a lot.  Thank you for visiting my Shinden thread!

Hope you're over the cracked tooth, yeow - it makes my mouth sore just to think about it!

Thank you my friend.  I used a brand new brush to get the paint strokes even.

Yes, I feel good today.  I can actually eat hard foods again, I just can't chew on one side for now.  Thanks for asking and your concern!

I'm going to work on the Shinden's landing struts and tires now.  I hope they turn out ok, there's a lot of small parts.

This is how far I got today.  There's still a lot of work to do let alone adding the decals on.  I must say that the landing struts on the Shinden are like toothpicks!  I get worried every time I pick up the Shinden and put it back on the ground, it seems too fragile.  I currently have it resting on the Tamiya stand.  I'll have more updates later.

Toshi-  your brush work looks like my AB work, and I have had paint guns in my hand for going on 40 years.  Can't wait to see her finished up.  You are 600% or more from where you started a year agoYes

Agree- the gear looks spindly and fragile for that kind of length.  Good job on it not collapsing yet.

Thank you my friend!  Your words are too kind for such a build that I have done.  I just try my best.  Inspiration comes from you and forum members.  I'm just trying to keep up with you guys.  At times, even that's hard to do.  LOL!

Just so you and forum members know, I had to re-brush the Shinden twice to get it at a level in which I was happy with.  My first attempt looked like I used Crayola Crayons!  LOL!  Luckily, I was able to wipe off what I was not pleased with, I used CREATEX AB cleaner from Hobby Lobby.  The areas that I felt were good, I left alone.

I had primered the Shinden in green, brushed it with a top coat of dark green (That's the first coat of the Crayola Crayon job) then sanded the Shinden down with 1200 grit sandpaper to give it a smooth finish, then I added the second coat.  That allowed the Vallejo paint to lay down properly. I then finished off with MM Clear Gloss Acrylic #4638.

I want to thank you for always visiting my WIP!  You've helped me with my growth.

Tosh,if you had used Tamiya acryic paint it would have come out great even if you brush painted it as long as you add a bit of thinner to prevent brush strokes.

I didn't know that.  Thank you so much for the tip, I'll remember to use Tamiya Acrylics the next time I decide to hand brush a kit!

This evening was a delight!  Mrs. Toshi and I went to Hobby Lobby to purchase a new needle for my NEO Iwata CN AB.  It was splattering paint all over the place.  I hope  that is the only problem with the NEO, if not my conclusion is that the brass nozzle is the culprit.  Hence why I hand brushed the Shinden.  I do have 2 other AB but I decided to practice my brush skills

As always, Mrs. Toshi takes care of me, making sure I always have a model to build at hand.  This time around, I have 2 jets to build.  A Revell 1:48 F-104G Starfighter of which looks like a straight forward build.  The other kit is a Revell 1:72 F-22 Raptor.  The Raptor looks like another straight forward build as well except the paint scheme.  I've never encountered such a motif like this before.  It seems intimidating at best.  I'll have to wait and see if I can pull this off.  I know I'm jumping the gun but I'm so excited about my next projects that I wanted to share them with you all.  Until then, I diligently will carefully work on the Shinden build!

WOW  great job on the Shinden. Your hand brushing looks better than my airbrushing Toshi. Yes You're a courageous modeler for shure.

Mrs. Toshi sure has good taste in the models she buys lol   That F-104 is a dandy, especially because it's from our Canadian friends up North. Are you going to paint that in NMF ? I'm looking forward to watching that one.

Thank you for your kind words my friend!  I doubt that my hand brushing is better than your AB.  This is only the second time I've hand brushed a kit.  I don't know if you recall my first kit that I hand brushed was the classic Monogram Kingfisher.

The first kit Mrs. Toshi looked at was a kit with 2 planes in it.  A Stuka and a Me 262.  M. Brindos has that kit right now.  Then she saw a bi-plane called a Stearman.  I almost got that as I've never made a bi-plane.  The closest I got was the old school Monogram Wright Brothers Kitty Hawk kit.  Do you remember that model?  It brings back memories!

As for the F-104G Starfighter, I will paint it in NMF.  In truth, I'm very hesitant in painting the Starfighter NMF.  It's been a long time since I used that color.  "Oh the horror, the horror".

Quote from Marlon Brando "Apocalypse Now".  LOL!

What techniques would you use to do a NMF?  Thank you Mr. Jay Jay for everything, you've been so good to me!
