Wow Tosh, you are lucky that your wife is so supportive of your hobby! My wife always rolls her eyes and asks me why I have to buy another kit when my stash is so large.I just laugh and say that you can never have enough models!

LOL!  That's always a true statement.  LOL!  Thanks for making me laugh and putting a smile on my face.

Hoo boy, you're asking the wrong guy for NMF advice, but I'll simply tell you what I know.   I would use Testor's gloss black enamel ( in the little square bottle ) for the base coat and make it as smooth as possible via wet sanding etc.  That's the key thing I think.  I definately use Alclad sprayed at about 6 PSI using a very light coat.  To get different shades of Alclad for different panels , I simply vary the undercoat slightly ie. semi gloss black or even flat black here and there.

There's tons of ways to do NMF successfully but the above is the most successful way for me so far, but I am FAR from an expert. My first 3 attempts was actually " the horror, the horror "  as Brando said  LOL

Plastic Junkie did a Voodoo incredably well and i was lucky enough to view it in person at the Orlando model show. He's way more qualified to give you advice as to how to do it best in my humble opinion.

To my fellow forum members,

Here I have the completed Zoukei Mura 1:48 SWS Kyushu Shinden.  This was a fun build with a lot of tiny intricate pieces.  Would I purchase more of ZM kits?  As soon as my winning lottery ticket comes in, the answer is a positive yes!  LOL!

This kit was a nice fit, great detail, and simple instructions that were clear.  The only thing I would change is the landing struts.  Way too flimsy, and it's on the verge of collapsing!  I did find metal AM landing struts for this build specific.  Pricy, but I do recommend it.  Thank you forum members for your read and replies.  All of you are number one in my book!

Hi, Toshi -

Another mighty fine job, exceptional model of a very interesting subject.

You might consider turning the wings around the right way, the cockpit should be reversed and a rudder on the back could also be helpful. (:>)

Thanks for the post and photos.

Excellent Toshi!the gloss color is appropriate as the Japenese used automotive laquer on their planes often without primer hence the chipped appearea ce of aircraft in acton.

Thank you pilo426!  I didn't know that fact, I finished the Shinden in gloss because I wanted to make it look brand new.  A just completed aircraft.  Thank you my friend for the visit and the information.

Hi Toshi,

Last time that I was here, you were working on the Horton, now you just completed a Shinden.  You are building quite a collection of exotic aircraft.

Thanks philo426!  The B-17G is a visible model.  The entire interior is made with PE.  It was somewhat difficult but extremely fun!

Nicely done for a brush job! Your collection is really looking fabulous as well, Toshi. You've got a lot of real nice looking art hanging around your space and I'm a touch jelous lol. I need to finish some projects!

I also see that you have a 0.35 needle for your Iwata. I hope you got the matching nozzle to go with it. Darn thing was $10 more then the needle but I think you have to have both, don't you?

I don't know about you, but I really like the smaller needle myself.  :)

Thank you my friend!  I'm honored by your very kind words.  Mrs. Toshi and I went two days ago to purchase the 0.35 needle for the NEO CN. We got 40% off of that.

Every Tuesday, I have speech therapy right next door to Hobby Lobby.  I'll be stopping by there after therapy to pick up the nozzle for 40% off as well.  If you pay the retail price for the needle and nozzle, your somewhere in the vicinity of $30.00 + Tax.  For another $20.00, you can buy a new NEO CN.  LOL!  I completely agree with you that when replacing the needle, a nozzle should be purchased as well.  Being that the nozzle is made of really soft brass and is very sensitive, that's a good idea.

Like you, I truly am ecstatic with the 0.35 needle and the whole NEO CN.  I can do pencil thin lines and prime with a one and a half inch coverage area.  This is an amazing AB especially for it being so economical.  That's why I went ahead and purchased the NEO Pistol Grip TRN1 Gravity Feed AB.  Great quality and I always wanted a pistol grip AB as sometimes my arthritis acts up.  The pistol grip allows me to continue with my project.

The TRN1 also has a 0.35 needle and a larger nozzle.  It allows me to get a wider and much more even spray pattern and yet can do pencil thin lines.  Even the TRN1 needle looks different from the NEO CN.  They cannot be interchangeable as I tried.  LOL!

She looks good Toshi! A fine addition to your nice collection there! Yes

I'm not much of an expert on NM but as JJ said the base coat is the major thing, it's got to be perfect. Even the smallest flaw shows up like a sore thumb. I use Alclad which is easy and simple as long as the undercoat is right.

Nice job on the Shin-den.

That is also quite a collection you have there.  What scale are some of those?  That Avenger and the Mosquito look huge compared to the B-24.  Are those 32nd scale?

Good work, Toshi. Really looks good, and thanks for sharing this build.

BTW, you and Mike are talking about Iwata needle/nozzles. It's more than a good idea to buy a matching nozzle for your needle, with Iwata it's pretty much a must. Good that Mike mentioned it, good catch.

Thanks Greg. I noticed the Iwata Neo CN comes with a 0.5 needle/nozzle. Which is a good decent spray size, but it wasn't spraying fine enough for the 1/72 builds. When I saw the 0.35 in the store, I couldn't help myself lol. if they carried anything any smaller, I would've grabbed that instead.

P.S. As always you are correct in that the Avenger and Mosquito are 1:32.  The German kits are all 1:32 except the Ho 229 and the Folke Wolfe.  They are 1:48.  The Corsair and the silver/chrome (Silver Surfer) Tamiyas are 1:32.

The Zero, Spitfire, Bronco fall under the category of 1:32.  The B-17G and the Shinden respectfully are 1:48.

The Airacobra is 1:32.  A-10, Kingfisher, and the Eagle are 1:48.  The only kit that I've ever built in 1:72 is the Twin Mustang.

Hanging above the work station is the:

Apache 1:48

Warhawk 1:48

Black Widow 1:48

B-25 1:48

Me-109 1:32

B-24 1:48

Mosquito 1:32

Avenger 1:32

GWH Black Widow 1:48

Phantom 1:32

Lancaster 1:32

Corsair 1:32

Beautifully done Toshi. It's quite excellent to see you work on the ZM kits. Certainly nice kits. Thanks for sharing your display of completed kits. I'm simply astonished at your rate of building. I've been back in the hobby for 7 years now and I have 7 completed kits. Man, I have got to tell the wife unit that I'm done working in the yard and need to spend more time at my bench.Confused RIIIIGHT!!!!!!

Thanks for the wonderful Shinden and the great updates.

Here is the F-104G.  As you can see, several areas was in need of putty.  Now comes the sanding and buffing followed by the first coat of paint.
