Hey, Toshi -

Well, let's see. No fit issues, no flash, no putty, little sanding, no paint lifting by tape. How is there any fun in a build like that? Jeepers, if I can't enjoy many hours correcting kit problems, I don't feel like I'm getting my moneys worth.

You should ask for a refund.

Really nice job, the finish looks great and the camo came out just fine. Your freehanding is impressive, I'm so shaky I feel lucky if just a little of the paint gets on the model.

Thanks for the WIP and photos.

XF-15DCC

I'm for Langley "FF" as I retired from the USAF there and was getting my hand on working the F-22 and if the tail numbers are correct, I touched that jet.  But that is my $0.02, you are the modeler, your choice. Wink

Which Squadron were you with? My dad was a Master Seargeant in the 71st when he retired in 93 as Col. Meyer's(before Meyer became CJCOS) crew chief.

On the workbench: Dragon 1/350 scale Ticonderoga class USS BunkerHill 1/720 scale Italeri USS Harry S. Truman 1/72 scale Encore Yak-6

The 71st Tactical Fighter Squadron the only Squadron to get an Air to Air kill and an Air to Ground kill in the same week with only a F-15 http://photobucket.com/albums/v332/Mikeym_us/

Here is my completed F-22 Raptor.  There were no fit issues nor flash.  Everything went together fine, I also did not need any putty work to be done.  Next to no sanding, except the front seam area needed a quick rub of a nail file and all was good.  Unlike the F-104 Starfighter, the paint stuck to the aircraft without coming off with Tamiya/Frog tape.

I utilized the same process in painting the F-104 and applied it to the F-22.  Why did the F-104 paint peeled with the tape is a mystery.  I definately would highly recommend this kit!  Yes, it was that simple without any issues to assemble and extremely fun as well!

Congrats Grandpa Toshi!

I have a question on how the kit went together.  When you joined the two fuselage halves, was there any alignement issues or gaps or did they fit together well?  I am really considering this kit.

Thanks,

Scott

Here's where I am for this afternoon.  I'm still going to need to clean up the Raptor.  Once ready, I'll apply the decals and any other misc. items that I left out till the last minute.  Thanks for visiting!

Finally some updated pics!  As I mentioned earlier, I messed up with the blue Tac technique, so I AB this by free hand.  I hope members like this.

Toshi

Here's what's been done on this quite Sunday afternoon.  Next up is the camoflauge.  I made a mistake as I purchased some blue tack for the first time.  I was going to try that technique until I realized I needed to have the Raptor painted in a dark gray coat then, place the blue tack on and spray the lighter gray on.  Oh well, I can fix this by going free hand AB.

Toshi

Sorry forum members, I didn't realize I had posted these three pics earlier.  Please disregard.  Thank you.

I'll have updated pics later this evening.

Its coming on nicely Toshi. You can still use the tac for masking, i take it thats the lighter grey colour. Jst run the tac around and spray the darker colour inside. I use tape to mask beyond the tac.

Thanks for the tip Bish.  I had an idea like that but I went ahead and sprayed the Raptor.  Photos to follow when the paint dries.

"I'm only moving along due to your photos, it really helps me out with the color schemes."

Toshi, that is great to hear that I could help you. It has made my day by hearing that.

Btw...it has been interesting to read that the paint on these planes have a metallic appearance. I never would have guessed that little nugget of information.

Keep up the good work!

This is the best forum ever!  Everyone helps each other out!  Yes, the paint scheme that includes a small percent of metallic, is an interesting subject.  I too have never would known this fact!  Thank you Baxter for your visit, assistance, and the read and replies!!!

Yup, that's a raptor alright. Looks good Toshi.

It's getting there.  The paint scheme is the most challenging, there's lots of masking needed to be done.  I'll definately take on this challenge.  Thank you my friend for the visit!

Thanks allan, yes it does help. I did find one sight which said that F-22's were 2 shades of silver with grey along the edges. But that seems a bit odd and the metalic look you mention makes more sense. I will have to see if i can find matchs in the paints i use. Thanks again.
