Excellent. I was wondering if you would be starting this one soon. I think you'll find that Hasagawa kits are a lot like the Academy kits you've been building lately. Good details that lend a lot to scratch building even more details if you want them. The fit is typically good and you shouldn't have any instruction errors.

I think you will like Hasagawa kits as much as Tamiya and Academy.

And look! Pilot figures! Looks like more oportunities for figure painting  ;)

Surprisingly it has recessed panel lines.  Something that was a cutting edge technology back then.  This kit was far beyond other kit manufacture's models back then.  There is lots of flash, so one must be really careful but as old as the mold is, it has stand up to the rigors of time!  Thank you JOE RIX for following and supporting my builds!  I highly appreciated!

By the way, your Tamiya 1/72 Corsair is coming along amazingly highly detailed!  Wow!  I swear it's was a 1/48 all this time until I happen to glance at the header at the opening of the thread and saw 1/72!  Wow!  Wow!  You're doing a fantastic job on the Corsair.  This is something else!  I wish I can do that with 1/72 kits.  I have a important question for you.  What do you find and how many items do you find most challenging when working with this Tamiya Corsair kit?  Thank you in advance and thank you for your continuous support in my projects, especially the read and replies!

This is as far as I could get yesterday.  Why only this far?  For the next six months every Thursday night, Sunday (All day all night), and Monday night is NFL Football!  I'm a rabid fan of all 32 NFL Teams.  Why all 32?  Every team has their star players and every team has their potatoes!  You all know what I mean by potato!  Some are even rotten potatoes.  LOL!

Whats really cool is that as of the start of the 2015 NFL season, I was able to build my beloved models and watch football at the same time.  Oh yah!!!  LOL!  This is something I just love to do!  Anyway, thank you all for your support in my builds and the read and replies.  I so much enjoy our conversations as I get to know each and everyone of you!

For your next pit I would like to suggest a neat trick that should look closer to the correct cockpit color.

Spray all of the pit pieces in silver (stay with me here) and then, if you have the paints I think you do, Mix;

10 drops clear matte + 5 drops Green (not sure which one you have, but the greener, the better) + 4 drops of Blue. Season to taste ;)

Spray that mixture over the silver and you'll get a very lovely chrome-ish green blue that they painted the cockpits and wheel wells in.

I've seen the results, but have not yet had a chance to use this recipe for myself.

I will definately utilize the IJN interior paint scheme recipe you have shared with me and FSM Forum members as well!  

As for my meager scratch building, this is only the second time I've attempted to do this.  Having the Academy 1/72 Hellcat as my very first scratch build attempt.  Just trying to keep up with you and every other forum members build(s) that include scratch building.  

I'm adding a trim wheel later this evening as there are no NFL football games broadcasted tonight!  LOL!  M.Brindos, thank you so much for always helping me and supporting my builds.  I'm greatly indebted to you for this!  You've thought me so much and yet, I have a long, fun, and exciting road ahead of me!

It seems the cockpit was green (Tamiya XF-71 works well for this) but other areas like the gear bays were lacquered with "aotake".

So for the wheel wells, using what I know Toshi could source from the HL Vallejo selection,

I'd want to mix 10 parts clear with 4 parts blue, and 2 parts yellow sprayed over silver. I think that would be close. ...maybe.

But the pit color is close as-is.

Yeah, this aotake thing is a puzzlement, and there are as many ideas about it as there are historians. Some say it was a corrosion preventative, still others maintain it was a layout aid, like dykem, and everybody has a different idea what color it was. Plus, it seemed to change colors with exposure! I painted all my Japanese interiors with it until I got the original Japanese Interiors books, the thin little softcover ones, and almost jumped off a bridge when I saw the Raiden was green. Green for pete's sake! Now I got a shelf of models that have to be trashed, or at least cleverly hidden. I think at the end of the day, though, unless you are striving to be an "authority", build what please you. We can get away with stuff we'd never let Bob Mikesh off the hook for!

Also, Toshi, thank you for sharing your modeling with us. I giggle like a schoolgirl when I see a new post from you, and each build gets more polished and professional. It is the people what make this hobby the pleasure it is!

Here is what's been done for this evening.  There's so much controversy in regards to Aotake.  Boy, my people can be a PITA sometimes!  LOL!  LOL!  I want to personally thank all of you forum members that have contributed to this thread especially in regards to the colorization of the cockpit.  It brings us together and enlighten us all in new or old information.  The world can learn so much in the unity that we have here!
