Thanks Toshi!  All my aircraft kits are currently old school, but as Mike pointed out, that will help me learn.  Still have some basics to nail down before I can justify a 1/32 beauty like you turn out.

Oh hold up, you mean the old monogram Zero? There is ample opportunity for scratch building in that pit. But isn't it a one-piece canopy? I never did finish that one.

I'd love to have another shot at that kit lol.

 

Nope, this is an old timey Fujimi boxed by Testors.  Watched some youtube vids of a guy working on one.  It definitely doesn't look as hard as the 190 was, but it does have an engine.  That will be totally new for me.  Just got some thin copper wire at Michael's in the beading section, so I may try wiring up the engine.  Got some interesting looks while in the beading section.  LOL.  This kit does come with a one piece canopy, and it looks kind of thick.

Didn't spend much time on the pit of the 190, but plan to in the Zero.  Not sure what will be seen once the canopy is in place, but I will know it is there.

I am really cheesed at PB. I was going to use Toshi's 1/32 Zero for some reference, and now all the pics are gone.  Not as major as having all your pics held hostage, but still annoying.

If I ever get around to trying a 1/32 kit, it may just have to be a Mustang lol.

Either that, or a Stuka. Either of those would make a brilliant centerpiece in my opinion. :)

I started scratch building small bits here and there and as I did my confidence grew. Now, to be fair, my scratch building is not always accurate, but I make it look as close as I can lol. I paint it up real purdy lol.

Just dont be discouraged from building your own details. Especially with the classic kits. Not all of them have AM kits available and some include a reasonable amount of detail already that just need a little updating to make them beautiful.

For example, I scratch built a lot of stuff in my Monovell P-40 cockpit, but I used all of the kit parts as I did so. The results were widely admired lol. 

I guess my point is that you'll get there in your own time. So go for it whenever you feel the need. No one will give you greif for trying.  :)

Enjoy yourself, bud! Do what you want with those classics because they've been done hundreds of times already and no one can tell you how YOUR model should look when its going on your shelf.  :D

Well yes, I think so too. With the older builds you get your introductions to dry fitting, parts alignment, putty, sanding, scratch building, masking, finishing techniques, and proper decal application.

You get few of those under your belt and then the Tamiya kits feel like being pampered lol.

 

Hey Mike.  Yup, I did learn some lessons, especially about dry fitting.  I am not confident at all with scratch building, which I noticed is something you really enjoy when building a kit.  You always seem to figure out what is needed, and pull it off well.  

I plan to add a little detail to the pit of the Zero I just started.  OK, very little detail. The Mrs. wants me to chug through my vintage stash before adding more kits, so it is going to be a while before I can get pampered with a new Tamiya.  What I am really hoping to work up to is one of those sweet 1/32 kits like Toshi has been doing.  By the time I get through the stash I should have some pretty good experience.

Nice work on a vintage model!  I think I built mine back in the 1970s with the twin underwing gun packs.  The kit had gazillions of weapon options, IIRC.

 

Thank you!  The kit came with multiple options.  Twin cannon on pods on the wings, extra fuel tanks on the wings, bombs on the wings, which is what I went with.  Lots of decal options, too.

Thanks Mike.  I think the 190 is my favorite fighter, followed closely by the Corsair.  The 190 has very nice lines while projecting power.

And you bet your skills will advance with each build, that's a big part of this hobby, getting better with each one. You catch on quick, your 190 is one to be proud of. Thanks for the post and photos.

Thank you for the kind words, Patrick.  I am enjoying using my airbrush now.  It wasn't that long ago that it kind of intmidated me.  

I don't have a son to pass this hobby along to, but I do remember reading the post you are referring to not that long ago.  Considering the language I sometimes use while building, maybe that is not a bad thing.

Ok, the images show up now. What did you do to correct the problem? I am interested in google photos as a back up, so...

Now, regarding your 190, did you put something across the top of the wheel wells? I remember that area being an open void on that kit. Nice fix on that. Not a 100% accurate, but still an improvement. And I think my only critique on the overall build is where is the tail swastika? Otherwise, you did a very nice job on the old kit.

 

Thanks Stik.  For some reason, the only way I could get the pics to post correctly was to create a link on my phone, email the link to myself, open the pic, the copy it to the forum.  Checked the site, and the help wasn't very helpful.  Last night I copied the image address to the forum, and it worked for a while, then didn't.    Not sure why.  I may actually look into Imgur.

As to the kit, I just used some sheet styrene to fill in the blank area.  Not accurate, but better than looking through the plane.  The kit did not come with swastika decals, and wasn't something I even noticed.

Dwayne, she looks great to me! I think we all learn something from each build, I'ts part of  the learning process. Of the dozens of models that I've built through the years there's not one that I'm totally satisfied with but I had a good time doing the projects. I'm still not good but better each time I hope!   Good job!

I was looking at something yesterday that I was not quite happy with, and it suddenly occurred to me that I was wearing magnifiers.  Switched to normal glasses, and realized you couldn't see the issue without magnification.   Gotta let that one go.

Only the angle of the landing gear legs is off, but if I remember correctly that is the way the kit has you build them.

I like the colors and it looks really well done! You managed to get a good finish and I would love to have one in my collection. :)

The legs are supposed to be canted 13 or 16 degrees off the vertical, can't remember which now.  Measured carefully, but after gluing, one of them straightened out.
