StreetFightingMan and IBuild148, those sound and look like great kits.

I've pretty much finished my Super-duper Sherman, and am winding up the weathering on a few shelf queens until next month, hoping to have a cleaned-up bench soon.

I still haven't cracked open the Jagdpanther kit to survey it yet. I will this weekend.

Three weeks until kick off.

LOL!  I am so ready to attack my Tiger I.  My Pz III is about 95% complete and it only needs weathering.  For the first time in FSM history I can start my build at the VERY beginning of the GB instead of being last.

Hi all,

I promised a look at my materials, and here they are:

Tamiya 35169 King Tiger (Porsche turret)

See how good I've been, I haven't even molested the shrinkwrap...

And the AM bits: Cavalier zimmerit, Eduard turned barrel and Alliance Modelworks grill set:

I'm going to try to make it look as much like Tony Greenland's (from his book) as I can. I've wanted to do this kit since it came out...

Change of plans guys.

The Eduard zimm I bought for the Tiger has been setting in the model box for two years and for some reason I never bothered to double check it. It's NOT for that model. I took it out to see if it would work but it doesn't fit. So now I need to order some Cavalier zimmerit.

One question. I've never used Cavalier zimmerit and wonder if it can be made to look like battle dananged, just a few spots here and there?

KC -- yes you can -- easy as, the Cavalier product is wafer-thin resin about as strong as paper, you can cut, punch, tear and generally abuse it with the greatest of ease.

Tamiya still has the best box-art.

Andy, you almost had me for a second. LOL

Where does everybody get their Cavalier zimmerit ??

The only place I could find that has

1/35 German Tiger I Late Production PzKpfw VI Ausf E SdKfz 181 for DML

Which is what I need is Olde Depot Hobbies but I can't tell if they have that one in stock or not. I would hate to order and later find out it will be a month or two before it comes in when I could have gotten it some where else and have it in this week.

It has to be that one, it was made for the very model I'm going to build.

KC -- it's a proudly Aussie product! Here's the website:

www.cavaliermodels.com/Zimmerit.html

It's cheap to post because it's light as a feather, and sells for $20 a set. Good folks to deal with, I've bought from them for a few years now.

I scored mine at Spruebrothers. Tiger I zimmerit, especially for a Dragon kit, is amongst the hardest to find.

Well, I need something easier to get back into building (again).  I would like to join up with this GB.  I have a Panther Ersatz that is screaming to be built. Also with out the massive amounts of photoetch that I used to do.  I need to start out easy and then get rolling.

My kit is still in the shrink and will be out of the box.

Eric, these are my formal entries for the Steel Cats GB!   All 1/72 Dragon kits:

Tiger I Initial Production

King Tiger Henschel Turret

Jagdtiger Porsche Production

Panther Ausf.F Early Production

Turns out the Tiger I Mid Production was already started and about 40% complete so I replaced it with the King Tiger kit.

I'm not sure if I'll build all together or one at a time, but I'm leaning towards a 4-way build like Tony did with his Jagdpanzer IVs in the Armor Forum!

Ernest

Last Armor Build - 1/35 Dragon M-26A1, 1/35 Emhar Mk.IV Female

Last Aircraft Builds - Hobby Boss 1/72 F4F Wildcat & FW-190A8

Two more weeks?  I better finish my Pz III K!!!  Here's my entry... I am still looking around for aluminum barrel to replace the kit part.  It looks like it is not available here in USA except to order one from either UK or Poland.  I can always steal the aluminum barrel that goes with Tiger I Initial kit #6252 I have in my stash if necessary...

Andy, don't you like the kit barrel. I am normally a big fan of metal barrels, but i find the ones in these newer Dragon kits to be just as good.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Andy,

Will an early Tiger I barrel work?

If so AK Interactive USA has them.

That's a lot of goods to go with that Tiger Andy. Didn't that kit come with magic tracks? If so, what are your plans for them? Whistling

KY Colonel- THANK YOU so much! Beer  I didn't realize AK Interactive now sells RB models.  That's great news... I will go ahead and order one.  I am just an addict... can't use styrene barrels. LOL  Now I have an excuse to order that German camo stencil Tony used on his build recently.

Tigerman-  I wish!  That's why I had to buy a Friul set.   My kit only comes with enough Magic Tracks to be used for spares only... like 8 or 9 links.  I looked at DS Track closely and I didn't like it... you can have it if you wish because I owe you one!

Has Cavalier gone out of business??

Their web site is gone. I emailed them last week and have not heard back then I went to their web site and it "could not be found" I also did a search and ever though I got several hits each one did the same thing, it wasn't there.

KC -- I was in touch with the firm not long ago on another project and there was no indication at the time that there was a problem -- I logged onto the website two days ago just fine, it's probably just a technical hiatus and the site will be back soon. I certainly hope so!

Well I just found out that CAVALIER has discounted the kit I need so none of them do me any good.

Looks like I'll have to go and do the old school way by putting the zimmerit on myself with putty

I can't think of them but isn't there another company that makes resin zimmerit?

Just found it ATAK is the company, don't know if they make one for your build.
