KY Colonel- THANK YOU so much! Beer  I didn't realize AK Interactive now sells RB models.  That's great news... I will go ahead and order one.  I am just an addict... can't use styrene barrels. LOL  Now I have an excuse to order that German camo stencil Tony used on his build recently.

Tigerman-  I wish!  That's why I had to buy a Friul set.   My kit only comes with enough Magic Tracks to be used for spares only... like 8 or 9 links.  I looked at DS Track closely and I didn't like it... you can have it if you wish because I owe you one!

Thanks bud, but my kit came with DS tracks too.

I think the Atak zimmerit is even better then the Cavalier, but much spendier. Check ebay out.

Just found it ATAK is the company, don't know if they make one for your build.

I found one on Ebay that is for a Tiger I late DML but have no way of knowing if it will fit the model I have.

Also it cost $23 plus $11 for shipping. If I remember right I bught the model itself on sale for $35.  As much as I've already got in the model and after market stuff I can't make up my mind if I'm going to psend any more or not.

Two nice packages came in the mail today, so I now have all the AM that I will be adding to my Panther G. The kit, by far the best Cyberhobby release I've seen, is supposedly close to flawless, so I won't be adding much. The kit, which has markings for a tank from Pz.Rgt.26 in Italy, includes amazingly detailed add-on anti-aircraft armor for the turret. As I said in my previous post, the kit doesn't have zimmerit, even though some of the tanks in Pz.Rgt.26 had it, but the tank I am building did not have it, so no trouble there. However, the kit doesn't include the anti-aircraft armor for the rest of the tank, which is funny, because the tanks without zimmerit had the full armor, and the tanks with zimmerit did not, so the kit essentially has some features of each, but not enough to get a completely accurate tank of either type. Oops

Anyways, it isn't a problem, because these is a really nicely detailed, inexpensive PE set from Alliance Model Works that has all the necessary armor. That came today, along with a really cool set of MG 34s from Tank especially made for placement on Panzers. For some reason, the kit has the mount for an anti-aircraft MG-34 right where it should be, but an actual MG 34 is not included. The one I got today is really well detailed and will (hopefully) draw attention to the armor on the turret.

Well, I guess that's all until September. Here's a snapshot of the kit and the AM:

That's a sweet lineup Mike. That kit was pretty much built around the first of the smart kits: The Panther G Late. Needless to say, I've read only good things about it.

Guys, It's only about 2 weeks until BD: Build Day. Cool. Where did the time go? I'm still not decided on Jagdpanther or Tiger?

hello all....   well, workbench almost back to working condition after a Spring/early summer of flooding in the basement, clean up, and fixing up...  apologies (and a beer IOU) sent to deafpanzer for not completing the Pz III GB . Time to restart the new workench with a new GB. And the previous Great Cats GB I actually finished!

I have the old Tamiya Panther Ausf A 35065, which is inacurrate and simplistic (3 sprues, about 40 parts). I was planning on building that one in tandem with the Dragon premium edition Panther A Late production (kit # 6358) and some assorted AMs. I can use the Dragon build as a way to improve the Tamiya oldie and work on my armor skills.

Any suggestions or comments on this particular combo are welcome!

cheers

JMart -- that would be 35065, and that was the second armour kit I ever built, back in the mid-90s. It may be simple but it's a fun build and takes detailing and a good paintjob very well. It was also the second article I sold to FSM! Okay, it's old, but it builds a dream and looks like a Panther when it's done -- so have fun, throw on some extras if you like, and go for it!

Nice to have you aboard JMart. I would love a side-by-side comparison when you finish both.

Why don't you build both?

Guys, I just heard back from the manager at Cavalier -- there's no question of the business folding, it's just problems with his ISP and he expects to have a fully revamped version of the website up within the week. So check back in a few days and grab this great Aussie product!

Cheers, Mike/TB379

That's great news Mike, I was starting to wonder if that was it for Cavalier.

Ok Darson, you talked me into it. I will be doing the Tamiya Jagdpanther Late. This should be a less time consuming build then my Dragon Tiger I, plus the Jagdpanther is terribly under represented in this GB. (I just checked and I'm the only one to be building one!)

I have some Tamiya PE grills and Magic Tracks for it.

Anyone know whether the base was Olive green and not dunkelgelb? That's my guess.

I think we have to use the HTMC code instead of the IMG Code.

Try that.

Hey Tigerman, just select the Insert Image icon from the Rich Formatting selections & copy the link to your pic in the following format, without the "quote marks".  You don't use the img tag anymore.

and it should come out like this

I agree that the "use rich formatting" must be selected . I still use the "img" code just as we did before the latest changes here .

I just decided to pick up a little spur of the moment purchase for my King Tiger, a set of J's Work camouflage masks.

They look pretty cool an will hopefully make painting a little easier

This seems more difficult then the old way, because you have to drop the IMG.

Eric I see that you are a Photobucket user which makes explanations easy because so am I.

In Photobucket if you hover the mouse over the thumbnail of the image you wish to upload it brings up that Share, Edit, Delete Move Dialog.  Simply click on Direct Link and it will automatically copy everything you need to paste directly into FSM.

Very cool looking Jagdpanther by the way.  Are you doing skirts on or off?

Cheers

Thanks Darren.

I'm going to leave the skirts off, since they are one piece and pretty thick. This will also show off the track sag better too.

Mike/TB – Yes, the Tamiya Panther is indeed the 35065; three sprues and vinyl tracks!

I was lucky that I found the old Eduard PE set for that kit at Luckymodel and they actually had in IN STOCK and should arrive next week. I figure that between the Dragon parts and the PE sets (also have one from Trakz)  I can dress up the Tamiya kit. I can use the plastic one-piece barrel from the Dragon for the Tamiya since the Premium edition contains a metal barrel. Tracks will be an issue; will deal with that down the road.

Will post pics later this week of the boxes/sprues.
