I had a lot of fun with this.  Once the fusealge was together things went pretty fast.  I'm going to call it done.  I hope you enjoy the different scheme.

The "Canada" on the sponson seems a bit large, but it was intended for a Chinook.  But, I think it's fitting for it to stand out a bit on this project.

 

I have to agree with Bobby, awesome camo scheme and very well done!

Colin, I think you've done a perfect job with the Canadian livery on the Apache.

There is a lot of great work being done in this GB. In my entire stash I only found two planes I think fit the build but I want in!

Bish can you please varify I am ok to join in with a italeri 1/72 Jaguar Gr. 1? I have markings for 2 versions both RAF.

Made a start on the Apache and really been loking forward to this one. The Academy kit of the British Apache is based on there Block II early kit. Looks really nice, though i was dissapointed that it only had a one piece closed canopy and no option for folding rotors, though i get the reason for the latter one. Would be nice if one of the AM companies picked up on it.

The box does call it an AH-64, but in British service it is known as the Apache AH.1.

There was only a little work needed on the pit before painting. Had to remove some of the raised detail which is replaced by coloured PE and add the none coloured PE, foot peddles and a floor section.

Next up was a coat of primer followed by Tamiya flat black.

The pit was then dry brushed with oils and the rest of the PE added.

The only PE i have not added is the seat belts. Thats because the pilots need to be installed and then the belts will be added. And to that end i have already got the pilots done. These are 2 resin figures from PJ Productions, labeled as AH-64 crew. The packaging clearly shows them in US uniforms but once painted there shoudl not be any noticable difference.

I am doing an aircraft that was in Afghan in 2008/09, the same time i was in camp bastion. Fortunatly this means i can do them in desert camo rather than the new MTP. I matched the desert colours to a pair of issue desert shorst i still have which are nice and faded. The lighter colour was tamiya Dark yellow, Deck tan and a small bit of white. The darker colour was desert yellow.

You know seeing these modern subjects got me thinking what Canada currently has in their air fleet.  I like the looks of their BAe Hawk trainer:

Crazy thing is, if I want to go with a modern tooling, Kintetic's boxing at 1/32 scale is the cheapest, go figure...

I didn't know Canada had Hawks. Would not the 72nd Airfix be any god or is that the wrong variant.

Hi Bish, yes in Canadian service is known as the CT-155 Hawk.  It is the BAe Hawk 100 series, designated 115  for Canadian export.

Airfix had a 2009 release, so is not new tool.  It requires some fixing of details, namely a streamlined tail fairing.   Aftermarket decals would be required, and the only ones availble are $24.CAD

Airfix also has one in 1/48 with Canadian markings.   Again old tooling and there is shape issues with the nose.    HobbyBoss has something newer, but again aftermarket decals required, but is a bit better for about $18.CAD for the decal sheet.

The Kinetic 32nd scale already includes RCAF decals, and with the 20% off sale at LuckyModel would make it same price as the HobbyBoss 1/48 kit.   See what I mean...

Okay, so I finally got to work on Airfix's 1/72 Folland Gnat T.1. Getting ready for college, helping my sister get ready for her wedding, fixing up the house, and other things have kept me busy.

This is the 4th or 5th kit I've built since I really got into the hobby, so don't expect anything amazing ;) 

I did a little work on the cockpit, as it isn't really that well detailed. I added seat belts made of tape, as well as the over-head loops (I have no idea what they're called) to the ejection seat, which are missing on the kit part. The "loops" are quite a bit out of scale and the seat belts aren't exactly accurate, but it's 1/72 scale under a closed canopy, so I'm fine with it.

I also hand-painted some random paint dots on the cockpit sidewalls, because there wasn't much detail there either. It seemed to me that cockpit paint I used (Ammo of Mig Stone Grey) didn't quite match the color I saw in photos. I must've got my paint conversion mixed up. Oh, well.

Now I've got to get the fuselage together.

I go the cockpit halves together. There are a few gaps, most noteably on the bottom. I use Micro Krystal Klear to fill small gaps that would be hard to fill and sand, but it seems like there would be a better product out there for that. If you know of any, please let me know :)

I had a hard time with the resin nose not fitting well, allot of filling and sanding was needed to fare it in. Then the canopy fit was poor and I had to modify this to fot aswell....then rescribe it all - so much for a quick easy build LOL

Bish: Looks good! The pilots look great- move the steering wheel to the other side of the cockpit and I doubt anyone will notice the difference.

Jack: Sharp looking aircraft! 

Brynn: Looks good too! I know what you mean about cockpits without any real detail. And I've been using a lot of Perfect Plastic Putty, you can get it on Amazon. It's water-based so you can put it on a seam, wait about ten mins. and then scrub it with a moist cotton swab and it will take off the excess putty leaving it in the seam and not disturbing the surrounding detail.

Theuns: Awesome, great to see her all sealed up. Shame about all that scribing though.

Security Chief Michael Garibaldi from my favorite TV show Babylon 5- not sure how long I'll leave him up. 

On a more important note the Corsair is (mostly) together and I just sprayed the first coat of primer on her last night. Another coat or two and I'll grab some more photos. 

Bish - Excllent start mate, looking forward to seeing your progress.

Brynn - Looking good too, I used super glue for seams with a kicker. After a few minutes it sands off. The only progrem with PPP is when you wet sand your model...

Thanks Bish, yes that's the Airfix boxing I had posted earlier on, but as I mentioned it would require aftermarket decals to build it in Canadian markings, and the only ones I can find available are $24 per sheet, and they don't include any stencils.   As it is, I can't find the model in stock anywhere, not even Hannants.

Thats mainly why i have grabbed the last few of their new releases i was interested in as soon as they came out which i don't often do. The older ones i have been getting from e-bay, but i could find that one you need one there. lets hope they do re-release it rather than just another Red Arrows set.

Ye, i grabbed the Phantom as soon as it came out and i have the Victor tanker in my sites hopefully before the end of the month. Some kits are still easy to find like the Harriers, and at good prices. But others, like the Valiant, you will pay big money for if and when they come up.
