The Officially Shameless PBY/Halloween '09 GB

I just checked some pix I have including large versions of the tiny ones you posted.

You are going to have to modify the hoizontals as well, they are the type than go all the way around the end.

In fact most of the fire bombers appear to be that type.

And I thought I was crazy with my interiors.

Got the ribbing done in my second plane today and worked on the rear decking that will go in the gunners section.

OMG what did that crazy person do??? Here's the pics of the Supercat after last nights little incident with the razor saw, and yes they get to drinkin' and they get to makin' music...

So off came the fabric rudder, and the foredeck and turret ring. I'm still searching for information on the horizontal stabs and the flaps/ ailerons.

The new rudder is a big slab affair. What's interesting is the thickness of it at the hinge line. maybe about 9". So I had planned to make the new rudder out of a piece of thick styrene, but it's going to have to be an airfoil that will take a build up.

The foredeck had to go. I tried to keep the frame across under the windscreen, but on the original a/c its a spray deflector kind of deal, while on the Supercat the deck goes back into it level.

The next big challenge is converting the R1830's to R2600's.

Well my figures just showed up as did the Albatos DIII to go with one of my PBY's (it's tiny).

Sadly it doesn't have a pilot.

I think I have one I can modify for it though.

Most are the silver NL and 3 tone NZ birds but there are a few I've never seen before including a BM Spanish and a few Super Cat's.

Haven't done any work the last few days after I tryed some painting.

Didn't like it so I gave the parts an EZ Off bath that removed most of it.

Gotta get some more primer and than break out the AB.

I have found out what these tubes are according to my sources they are parachute flare adapters. Parachute flares are used to illunimate large areas.

For those interested and are near a Target they have some book lights on final clearance for $1.48 normaly $9.

I grabbed the last 3 at my store yesterday.

The whole thing is put together with screws so it should be easy enough to take apart and modify for a model.

Almost all the book lights are on clearance (diffirent models)

The endcap in books was just marked yesterday after I left work.

Tony......of course I don't have my PBY's here as they have been moved out already so I can't talk to what exactly is visible. Others may help with advice.

Perhaps you could rig a battery powered LED that might illuminate the compartment through the tiny windows. That might be interesting! Otherwise, it's a flashlight and magnifying glass!

I admire your effort though!

If it's going to be wheels down than you can hide weights under the tables.

Thanks Eric. I certainly don't mind doing a little scratchbuilding to spruce this up a little...maybe the Navigator's table and chair. But I don't want to put too much effort if it won't be seen and I'm not feeling like opening up the doors.

From most of the pix I have of Black Cats thei only markings are the stars and a number.

Really simple since they painted black over everything.

Looking good so far.

You do have the window over the top of part of the room.

If all else fails you can just paint the area Flat Black to hide the fact that it's empty.

Tony- Excellent work on the office, very convincing stuff!

BVD- Sorry that the saga is not quite over, but you seem to be in high spirits and that is a big plus.  Hope it all continues to go smoothly, and that the doogie situation works itself out for the best.  We'll keep our collective fingers crossed here for you!

Front page has been suitably updated!

The BVD is suffering from a lack of styrene! All WIP's and the Stash have been moved to the new digs.....along with all other modeling paraphenalia and refs......video games, most clothing etc. Dumped a couple C's at Wal-Mart over the weekend to help set up the new place.

Doggie status is still up in the air......but hopeful! But I gotta get out of here! Setting up the paint booth is going to be no trouble, either! The biggest thing I didn't move was my 2 year old 36" RCA TV.....why?......because it quit on me after the the mainteneance agreement expired! It's a plot. I tell you! A Plot! I'll haul it along and get it fixed, though. At first I was afraid I hadn't bought the extra maintenance agreement, because I rarely do buy those things. But I bought it and they waved the magic wand over it telling it to die right after expiration.

My bad!

Moving out of this hell-hole (roomie, not conditions) soon has made me think often of my friends here at FSM and it makes the workday go smoothly. I can't wait to get settled and start building and posting pics again! All you folks are an inspiration!

Doing the final move next weekend really fits as I can nail-down the final Power and Cable bills as the next billing cycle starts......then it's the (former) roomies problem!

I was able to get decals for that on Ebay. Here's my meager start so far...

There is suppose to be a shop in Modesto that I haven't vertured off to find yet that is the one about and hour away.

My usual hobby shop is in the SFBA about 2 hours away (one way to both shops).

Wish I could afford to move back to the BA.

Eric - I know what you mean about being so far from a hobby shop, it is a 160 mile round trip for me also.  It is really agravating when I run out of a certain paint color.
