Bench time = good.  Thanks for compliment.  Been able to get much riding in?

I mentioned previously that I wanted to show off the interior but with the kit doors all molded shut some microsurgery to open up sliding door on the side would be required.

After staring at photographs and spending much time today carefully and patiently wielding the X-acto blade, voila!

I'll have to do some scratchbuilding to get this to look the way I want.  But for now one more thing off the list. Wink [;)]

Question - do you have a backup kit for replacement purposes in case there's some sort of..."accident"? If not, you're even braver than I thought! Shock [:O]

As for riding - finally, yes. The weather here in June was horrible...finally got some training time in for the late July/early August mileage push. Did back-to-back 100's at the Maine MS 150 this year. Thumbs Up [tup]

Nope.  Blindfold [X-)]  Measure twice, cut once.

You're nuts.  I did a 60 mile ride couple weekends ago.  I know how I felt after 60.  To think I had another 40 to go?  Forget it.  And then do another 100 again?  Double forget it.  Yuck [yuck]Dead [xx(]

Managed to get some paint down on the interior.  MM Acryl Aircraft Gray and Interior Black are the two colors used at this point.  Still a lot of other bits to paint, but this will allow me to start detail painting the IP and seats.  Baby steps.

Here it is my friends, but before I show you I just have to say it took forever to fill the seams on the wings and the fusalge, mask the windows and work with really old Monogram decals. It was a good test to my skills. If I had all the supply's and the kit again I think I could build it again in 2-3 months. I also took alot of lead to balance it. Well here it is.

Very nice Andrew!  Jeez, that thing is huge.  Where are you going to display it?! Big Smile [:D]Whistling [:-^]

NMF's are tough, and seams have to be taken care of.  Looks like you did it right, and darkening some of the panels helps break up the monochrome look.

Nice job, one you should be proud of. Thumbs Up [tup]  Now get to work cranking out the next 6!

Arki and Razor thanks. I don't think it will be a problem storing it with a ceiling and sticky hook(non destructive kind). I am glad its finished I did put alot of work into that.

Alright here is a build 2 teaser.

Hey guys, sorry for not checking in for so long.  Some great work going on judging by the pictures.  I'm still plugging away on the Yak-15, about 95% done.  A couple of stupid mistakes on my part set me back, but the end is in sight.  I hope to finish this week, with pics to prove it!

Arki, nice progress my friend, you are braver than I am, I do like the new interior.

Andrew, congrats on finishing the beastie it looks fantastic. I think the only place you can put it is on the ceiling. With mine its on a display base and still on the kitchen table.

Do I smell a voodoo in the making.

Hi guys,

Andrew, congrats on the finish. It looks awesome, and BIG! Akri...looking good, can't wait for the completed interior.

A bit more progress from me - the bridge just needs some PE radars adding and a load of tiny 20mm AA guns. It's has a coat of Mr Surfacer and a touch of filler. That piece of brass is the elevator - fiddly or what!

by the way if you remember what page you put your finished build up on let me know and i will update the home page .

unfortunately my model building career has come to a grinding halt over the past few years . so i dont think i will be running this group here again because of my lack of participaton. if one of you want to take over and keep it going four years in a row that would be great.

i will be running it in a similar fashion on my site www.hobbyli.com but just running it so far not building again due to lack of a place to build

Hey guys, finally done with the Czech Model Yak-15.  Not the most cooperative model, but it turned out OK in the end.  I originally was going for a Green on top/lt. blue on the bottom scheme, but couldn't find a green I felt was close enough to the color callout so I went with the overall grey scheme.  As it turned out, the side number decals were not very opaque, so I'm glad I went with the one tone scheme.  Construction was typical limited run kit, lots of filler, sanding, and test fitting, but in the end you get a unique model no other company will touch.

Hi guys,

nice Yak-9 Jeff, looks good. I have a couple of Czech Model kits on my stash, so I guess I know what to expect. Well done.

Arki & Steve, thanks for the comments on the last photos.  Arki, it's an elevator - the Essex class had these on the outside of the hull. I found a photo of one in a reference books and even this amount of PE is a vast simplification of what it should really be. Hopefully more photos soon; when I get a chance to get back to the bench.

Kenny, did something happen to the old hobbylink domain? I noticed it disappeared one day?? I'm sure there will be an "IMS4: Fourever", is it too early to say I'm in? Smile [:)]

Whoops, I'm the one who called it a blast deflector.  Not entirely sure how I confused myself on that. Dunce [D)]

Jeff, nice work on the Yak.  Don't see that modeled much, if ever. Congrats on finishing your build for this GB. Thumbs Up [tup]

I have 3 1/700 kits in the stash and I've already checked the number of small parts and amount of PE in each; thankfully there's not much of each. I will be staying away from 1/700 fiddly stuf in the future, my eyes and sanity can't stand it!

Hi, this weeks progress...some matt black is the most visual progress.

Still needs some touch up around the edges.

Also got some primer on the bridge, another coat on the deck - which is now straight as against almost a ramp when it came out the box. Soon be at the putting it all together part...I hope.

Haven't posted progress pics in awhile, so I'm overdue.  I have certainly been plugging away, the cockpit work took much longer than expected.  It's not my best work, particularly the IP, but it will do.

Sorry for the crummy photos and lighting, but didn't feel like setting up the photobooth for this.  The interior isn't finished yet, still have to work on the rear of the cabin but I am glad the front is tidied up.

When I cut the side door out, that left an opening exactly the same size as the door.  Duh. Sign - Dots [#dots]

However, looking at reference pics there is an inside frame the door seals against when closed.  So I glued some styrene strips to the inside of the door opening.  I'll fill and sand this area next.

Cheers

Arki,
here's a bit of info on Measures...

Measure 1 - Dark Gray System (January 1941): Dark Gray (5-D) on all vertical surfaces up to the level of the funnel tops, Light Gray (5-L) on all higher vertical surfaces.
Measure 5 - Painted Bow Wave (January 1941): upper edge of false wave in white, filled in with Dark Gray (5-D).
Measure 11 - Sea Blue System (September 1941): Sea Blue (5-S) on all vertical surfaces. Measure 12 - Graded System (September 1941): Sea Blue (5-5) up to level of main deck. Ocean Gray (5-0) up to level of top of superstructure, Haze Gray (5-H) above. Note: this designation was also used in 1945 with Navy Blue (5-N) replacing Sea Blue (5-5)
Measure 12 - Mod. - Graded System (Modified): Sea Blue (5-S), Ocean Gray (5-0), Haze Gray (5-H) as above, but with wavy edge and splotching for a more blended effect.
Measure 21 - Navy Blue System (June 1942): Navy Blue (5-N) on all vertical surfaces. Measure 22 - Graded System (June 1942): Navy Blue (5-N) up to level of lowest point of main deck, upper edge horizontal, remaining vertical surfaces Haze Gray (5-H).
Measure 31 - Dark Pattern System (March 1943): disruptive pattern generally employing Dull Black (BK), Ocean Gray (5-0), and Haze Gray (541). Note: Measure 31a substituted Navy Blue (5-N) for Dull Black (BK).
Measure 32 - Medium Pattern System (March 1943): disruptive pattern generally employing Dull Black (BK), Ocean Gray (5-0) and Light Gray (5-L)
Measure 33 - Light Pattern System (March 1943): disruptive pattern generally employing Navy Blue (5-N), Haze Gray (5-H), and Pale Gray (5-P)

My Essex is in Design 6/10, a destroyer scheme, although the instructions call it measure 36, which I can't find anything about!

Nice work on the cockpit.

Arkii, the interior is looking very good. The IP has a nice and busy look to it and nice work on the door frames.
