i say both .     it needs some mud etc.. also with the kind of abuse that tank has taken to show that much wear on the top i think  a couple of the tyres should have some chunks missing , and the lower part of the fenders a few dents and maybe  a bit of the edges on one or more corners  missing  as seen in many wwii photos of war weary armor

Some of those suggestions are do-able others will have to be chalked up to "live and learn"...food for thoughtBurger [BG]though...thanks.

wing_nut thats an amazing job on such a small kit. I really thought that was 1/35 untill i got to the last pic.

smj it should be remembered that road wheels can be replaced so they will often look newer than the hull. Thats a great job you done, you really made those decals look good.

Theres a really high standard of work on this build.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

panzer88: a "Daily Double"...nice!  Both are excellent builds, I like the mesh on the Jagd...you said that was OOB?!  Why is the rubber on the spares different?, I see the front road wheel matches one of them...need some info on that. I think I prefer the Panzer J of the two, she's a real lookerShy [8)], again OOB?!, even the turret shields..wow!

The metal tools seem a bit shiny, IMO...see what ya' think.  Great builds overall though!!!...and I still say we need to meet so we can share our bulds in person!

ya know wackjob, you make a very good point here. this is something ive negelected in my own efforts.with bish's comment i think i would ding most of my road wheels and then use a filter on the others to show diff. paint lots, while keeping them reletatively "new".good call for both of you.Thumbs Up [tup]

some really neat stuff going on here so i thought i to would give you a little update.heres three of the four that i am currently working on.the nashorn has been getting the smaller parts installed, while the stuh 43(brummbar)awaits a set of zimmerit.and the brummbar has been fitted with the trumpeter drivers compartment.the drivers set has been sanded to make it the proper width, and a bit of the back chopped off.after that it was a drop in.the zimm may be awhile as it has been backordered.and missing from the photo is the three in one pzr 4 e,wich is nothing more than a primered hull.if i do another brummbar i will use the e models 3 in 1 suspension so that the front end droop can be accurately shown as the brummbar was very front heavy.now the current update, panzer IV G pretty much completed, aside from some small parts and touch-up work.i think it came out as i had hoped.several little scratchbuilt items were made, such as the rear fender springs.the turret basket and much of the fighting compartment are scratched also.photos of that later.heres a left side view.and two photos of the turret without its top.i have yet to find a good photo of the elevation gear for the main gun.and the monocular sight has not been installed yet.last but not worst, heres one comin at ya.thanks guys any comments are welcome.more on the others as they progress.

Very nice work detailfreak, going for the stabsgefreiter badge? The ostkettens look great on the PzIV G. Looking forward to the zimm on the SdKfz 166. The open topped Nashorn is a beast.  Again, a nice job on the PzIV.

I can't believe you have 4 in progress! I'll have to call you Albert Speer,LOL. Keep up the good work, and the roadwheels rolling.

detailfreak: I frickin' love that Panzer!  That mud is killer!!!,flung everywhere...awesome!!!, but how about adding more on that lower front hull and under the fenders too, would ya'?! It would get caked on there for sure.  It's tough to get under the fenders so, if you choose to, wet the mud good, use a flat x-acto and scrape it on.  Then come back with an old brush and move it around as you like.  How about adding a picture from the back?,it would be cool to see how that looks too.

Top notch effortThumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]!

Hey TD, I like the looks of the Leichter Flakpanzer IV. This design looks substantially improved over the Mobelwagen in which it was intended to replace. Very nice work. Looking forward to seeing updates.

Hey detailfreak, I really like the look of the ostketten's. I may have to get a set. They look like they could easily keep the 25 ton Pz IV out of trouble.

Guys, I can't believe the cranial flatulation I had late last night. I was fitting the fenders and had trouble with the superstructure of the SturmPz. The old Dragon kit was bowed outward on both forward and rear edges. It would NOT stay in place for the fitting. I'd decided to bust out the Tenax and fix the troublesome part. I got home this afternoon from work and had to hang my head in shame. There was a big empty hole where the Skoda 15cm main gun was supposed to be. DDDAAAAHHH! Tell me I didn't do that...Lady luck didn't flip her fickle finger of failure at me totally though, the gun fit thru the opening and I managed to attach the retaining ring thru the open hatch and open sponsons. A bit like building a ship in a bottle, or maybe a Skoda in a Sturmpanzer. I'll try to get a few photo's up later of the progress.

Thanks for the extra pic's and my suspision was correct about the back.  Your comprehensive mud flinging is awesome but, IMO, you gotta' go all the way now!...no turning back!  Based on the amount flung everywhere, even up to the turret, the mud would surely be caked up under the fenders too...both front and back.  Even if you choose to keep the tracks and road wheels relatively clean, I'd hit those fenders...but hey, that's me!  Give it some thought.   Fantastic, AND GUTSY work d-man...Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup] way-up!!!

I think that finish is far too unique and distinct to mar it up with dirt!

TD4438- Your Kugel is coming along nicely. I like the camo, a little different but different in a cool way. Plus it was a late war design, so anything is possible.

bbrowniii: That was my thought exactly...I think I decided I will just dust up the road wheels, lower hull and the bottom of the schurzen a bit and call it good.  Thanks for the vote!

Steve - to prevent any future decal "fiascos", have you ever considered picking up a set of spray masks? I know Lion Roar make some, as well as some other manufacturers. You can grab ones that have stencils for all of the common markings for German vehicles...balkankreuzes, unit markings, numbers, etc. etc. Not only would you never have to worry about decal film, but you're never constrained by the markings that come with whatever kit you're building (which may or may not be a 30 year old Tamiya kit).

Just an idea!

YEP!, I think I may go that route from now on.  The Panther A PE set I have has a numbers masking stencil included!...score!

This is my first update in awhile. I've been waiting on several packages of parts for my IV D. I had to order a new L24 (the kit's gun was missing from the sprue), MK tracks (the rubber bands look terrible and are incorrect for this model) and new drive sprockets to fit the MK tracks. Well, the MK's came in last week, the drive sprockets shortly after that, and the gun barrel came today. I've been working on the MK tracks since I received them. They are coming along nicely, but as you can imagine very slowly. I bought some Fruil 36cm sprockets from sprue bros to make the tracks work since the Tamiya kit incorrectly boxes 38cm tracks. The gun barrel is a Jordio Rubio metal and resin set. It's not made for the Tamiya kit but if fits fine. At the moment I am getting ready to to paint the turret interior. I'll run down stairs and grab some pics once I paint.

Some awsome work here guys.

detailfreak That mud work looks so real. Yje prings on the track guards, did you make those yourself because they look awsome. That is one lovely build.

SMJ Well, what can i say, your usual very high standard.

TD I think the camo look good, coming along nicely there. But i did notice one thing, your wooden jacking block is upside down. Not sure if it's to late to fix it.

Here's my Kugelblitz finished. After the pin rush i gave it a little rust on the tools and spare tracks. I also gave a light spray of thin Tamiya XF-55 for dust, and i love it. I messe3d up the kit tracks so added a set of Fruil metal ones i had. SMJ your weathereing steps were a real help and deffinatly something i plan on following with every build to different degrees. On this one i simply added the one coat of light dust. But i now have an idea of how i can chop and change it on different builds to get the look i want. I think i am getting the hang of this weathering and two builds in to these new methods for me and i am really liking the results.

All comments welcome as always.
