Simply excellent Steve, everyone a winner for sure and the start of the perfect 109 collection.

Im with Luftwaffle on the staining scenario. The exhaust staining was notorious. A lot of US pilots said on numerous occasions that they knew the 109's were going for it as they could see the dark smoke trailing the planes. I also had a look for gun staining. Not a lot from the guns but a fair bit from the ejector ports. Mmmmm. Need to look for more. But i definately agree it adds interest to a model.

As far as the "A" and "B", I know Classic Airframes made an "A", but it has been OOP for a while.  They do pop up from time to time on Ebay, though they sometimes go for some tall change.  Good luck!

I would love to do the blue one that Udet crashed with.

I dunno I bet it's nice but I just got all that resin pit and exhaust and outside PE for the dern Hasegawa kit.  Do I really need one? UGH!  I have read articles about how some say the old 1/32 Matchbox was more accurate in shape than the newer Hasegawa kit? Hmmm don't know exactly what parts they were refering too as they were not specific in the articles. Makes it hard for a new be (like me ) to understand.

Sean I was looking at your Japanese kits posted on the FAA build. You got a couple I have never seen before. A Tamiya Tony and such. You must have as big a stash as me!. Banged Head [banghead]

Aaron that Eduard 109 shold be sweet. I have the Hasegawa in the stash and I probally will not buy the Eduard kit. The Hasegawa one looks good enough for me. I went to lay down the underside blue on the G-14 last night and the airbrush is still screwed up and it spewed huge amounts of paint all over the model. At least it was only the first color. It should only take an hour to strip it down to plastic agian. Think its time for a new airbrush. I'm tired of it screwing up and making more work for me. I can't fine any reason for it to behave the way it is and I am so tired of redoing paint. I'll be on the internet looking for a good deal on a new one tomorrow. Until then I think I will pull out the old badger 350. It may not be the best airbrush but it always seens to work good and never gives me much trouble.

Steve, you've done a stunning job on all your 109s.

Resin turned up from MDC for my G-14, I'll post some pics when I get a chance.

OK, entry #2 is in the books.  Can't say that it was all that enjoyable build or I'm all that happy with the results, but you can't win 'em all.  This kit takes a lot of work and a lot of raiding of the spare parts box to get even somewhat accurate, Canopy, wheels: Hasegawa, Propeller blades, wheel bumps: Italeri, Rudder, horizontal stabs: FineMolds, Exhaust stacks, supercharger intake: Quickboost.  The landing gear needed to be moved inboard and I reworked the gear covers too since the shape was off.  Most of the other work was outlined in my earlier posts.

Spent today trying to airbrush this weird camo job that I have never seen before. My airbrush is acting up I think it is time for a new needle and seat so I had to keep going over to fit mistakes. This camo is turning out to be a real pain! I should look nice when it is done because it is a little different. Waiting for the first coat of paint to dry so i can mask the tailband and wing camo. I'll post pics when I have that all done.

Looks great Mike. I know what you mean when you say struggling witha sub-par kit. The Acadamy 1/48 G-14 that I am building will definetly never be confused for a Tamiya kit. It is not horrible just not high quality and some poor parts break down that make assemble take alot longer than it should. I though it was a 1/48 scale until I read your post. Looks pretty good to me.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] Excellent work Mike!  I think you are being too hard on yourself, that is another stunning example of the 109 in my book.  Camo is very good, and the wear on the propeller blades (especially the rear) is very well done.  Great work! Bow [bow]

SC- Bummer about the AB, hope you get it sorted out soon.  Just think of how nice it will be when you don't have to keep going back to fix things.  I am not familiar with that camo scheme, should be a real looker when she's finished.  Looking forward to the pics! Thumbs Up [tup]

OK, I finally have some pics to share!  You guys are flying along with your builds, and I am enjoying viewing them immensly.  Keep up the excellent work fellas!

Here's what I have done recently.  The fuse is all glued together and most of the seam work is finished.  I was able to level out the port side fuse half, from my poor glue job on the forward and rear parts.  Also rescribed the lost details.  The windscreen and top cowl piece are on just to check alignment.  You can also see the spacers I had to add to the forward fuse halves.  Just need to finish the seam work on the bottom right behind the wing.

I also finished up the radiator areas.  I scribed the forward flap until I could bend it, giving the look of a partially opened flap.  Also added the actuator strut from styrene rod.  The radiators are painted and drybrushed.

Also got the wing bumps on (small) and filled in the mounting holes.  Thanks for looking! Big Smile [:D]

Ask and yee shall receive Frank. I spend about 5 hours just airbrushing this wacky camo. The finicky airbrush made it harder and it not my best air brush job but I am soildering forward. I think the unusual markings will probally make up for the lack of qualitly airbrushing. I had to make masks for all of the paint overs in the field as it looks like this aircraft was reassigned to a different unit. I am guessing it was the originally assigned to the JG53 Pik- As due to the diamond shape painted out on the cowl. The aircraft numbers were also painted out and resprayed probally at the same time the black tailband was added. Anywho here is a pic. Please be gentle!

Thanks Mac, just trying to keep up with you!  Your PBY is coming along smartly, and you're really making me want to sink my teeth into mine.  But, don't think my bench will handle 5 at once so I gotta wait. Wink [;)]

SC- Nicely done!  I love these late-war mixed camo schemes found on these birds.  Looks like you're showing that nasty little AB who's boss. Approve [^]

Thanks Steve!  Feel like I'm finally making some progress on this one.  I still can't believe what a difference in size between the 1/32 and 1/48 (this is my first 1/32 kit), this thing is huge! Shock [:O]

Cor Blimey Kids, away for a day and it seems like a year.

Mike, another craker of a build from you, my friend. Stunning display as well. Im so jealous of your talents. You must have a whole staffel and more of 109's, and in 1/72. A gorgeous display as well. Any chance of a pic of them lined up in your cabinet or display area?

Frank, Another beauty on its way. looking nice so far. Ive done the half scribe thing before to display flaps open. Very nice job.

Crusher, Now thats a stunning camo, mate. If you had probs with your airbrush, it sure dont show.

Thanks for the comments guys, as I said I'm not real happy with it but nice to know it's not a total disaster.

Frank- Looking good!

SC- Very nice, really like the paint scheme.  That one participated in Bodenplatte too, so it's a nice stable mate for my first entry.

Wow Mike sorry I thought that was another previous build? Or at least you took a hairdryer and melted the snow! Amazing how you knock those out so quick and your pics are right outta the history channel.  No it is not a total disaster unless your talking about me trying to keep up!  Wonderful work!

I agree SC ! No sign of AB woes there that finish looks smooth and what a cool choice for a paint scheme!

Frank glad to see you are making some progress. I know we roped you into this one even though you were already loaded with other GB you still took the time to play with us. It would not be the same without you buddy.

Steve thanks for the kind words. I have put alot of effort into it but just like everyone else I always know I could have done better.

Guy thanks buddy. It means alot coming from you.

Mike I guess we will have to form a rotten and make a run at thoses Allied airbases. What is that song again? Shot down in a blaze of glory!

Aaron thanks. I thought the camo was pretty cool too. By the way I lost Wingus's cell number do you know how I can get a hold of her?Evil [}:)]
