Wow this was on page two........

Well got some paint tonight.  To bad it took three times as much time to mask this baby then it did tho paint and remove masks. Gave it a regular TIE look. Used tamiya neutral grey and some flat white.

Start the oil washes tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ssgkopp --That thing is cool...I was thinking about your paint;  Since it is an "experimental" what if you took some inspiration from some actual experimental/test/prototype (whatever) aircraft.  You know how a lot of times they have some red, orange or even yellow oddball markings.  Though I don't know exactly how or where you'd apply them, I guess your really only limited by your imagination.  Maybe the ball with the cannon could be a different color and the rest classic paint...hmmm.  Just my My 2 cents [2c]

Well got the parts washed up and finally got to the store to get some 5 min epoxy.  So here it is on its base.  Ill primer it tonight then start more work on it this week.  The wing has a cut down safty pin glued into it then to the base.

Not sure how to paint it yet.  May just give it the classic Tie paint.

Thought I'd check in...

See some really nice stuff going on here...good job to everyone!  I enjoy seeing the pics.

My own progress has slowed a bit due to work but I am plugging along.  I rolled around the idea of sanding off some detail on the wings of my TIE and removing the guns from the wing tips and scratchbuiliding them back on but decided NAAAAHHHH...the molded detail is actually decent.  I did drill down into the guns to make them look more like gun barrels.  There were a lot of "pinmarks" (I think thats what their called) on the wings, just a bit of sanding and filling...there were two spots that were real pains...I could not sand and didn't feel like filling, which would lead to sanding; sooooo I added some "detail"...I will never tell where; it'll be my secret.  Whistling [:-^]

Anyway, uh..getting close to painting, I think I am going to add (or remove in this case) a tip off a wing as my pilot experinced a close call, which will allow me to practice some scorch marks when I weather it in the end.

Laters...

sorry that I havn't been around. I'll update pg 1 for all of you, but not yet. Baseball game tonight. Anyway, with that speeder bike, it's a matter of repeated filling and sanding. It'll take you a while to get it, but it looks pretty good once the work is over. LAter.

I put mine the other way round, and it did sit ok. Though i do have the figure on which might help. But the narrow neck has broke loads of times, now my bike points up in the sky like an aircraft takeing off. I might try to get hold of another one and see if i can do a better job. Those speeders are awesome.

Thanks Bish! I know what you mean about the stand. Right now, I have a bottle supporting the front end 'cause its so bouncy without it.Big Smile [:D]

MaxSheridan That is awsome. I still have the one i built years ago, but looks now where near as good as that. And your right about the figure, once he is done he doesn't sit well on the bike.

One word of advice, be very careful with the stand. Mine broke not long after i built it, and i have had to repair it loads of times since.

Thanks for the comments guys!Big Smile [:D]

TD, the base color was a brown craft paint that I snagged from my wife's craft room while she wasn't looking!Whistling [:-^] It took a couple coats for good coverage, but with a little care it turned out nice and smooth.

TD,

Thanks for the link, but as I said in my earlier post they weren't really necessary.  She's a simple kit, down to about 15 pieces now since I threw out those funky landing gear thingies.  Was simply pointing out a faux pas on MPC's part (like it matters since they got bought up by AMT years ago).  Like its A-wing brother it's somewhat inaccurate, but it looks cool and will look good on the shelf.

Max,

Really nice job on the bike.  Like the worn, well used look.

Graham,

Did you get the pic?

Check out starwarsmodels.com.Look for the AMT TIE Interceptor. There is a link to download the instructions for this kit.

I'm just about done with my speeder bike. I need to add the levers on the "dash", and some touch ups here and there. It was a pretty easy build considering all the clean up that was needed. I replaced the cables from the hand grips to the main body with guitar string, other than that it was OOB. Paints were a combination of MM acryl, tamiya, and cheap craft paint. I didn't feel like masking on this one, so it is completly brush painted. I dry brushed steel to simulate areas where paint has worn away from the rider and from flying debris.

The figure.....well, that's another story. I haven't decided if I'm going to finish that or not. The fit is terrible! I think I'm just gonna shelve him for a while and come back to it later. For now, the bike will have to do!Big Smile [:D]

Enjoy!

Well folks I have been watching this thread from time to time with great interest. Some great builds out there. I decided not only to do the clone wars Y-wing but all a TIE Experimental in 1/72 scale. He is a pic of the parts after a quick clean up. Once I get this to the paint stage I will start the the Clone Y.

Please get these done relatively quickly. They are bound to be awesome.Cool [8D]

Wing! That is a great idea! Yup, first dio.

The one thing I would add is a trail of scorched earth, and maybe a few more ruts in the ground. However, I love it right now!

Just thinking on this, should I add another build. It would be a SW mini that I scratched of a shell hutt. Any thoughts?

Why not.Let's see some pics.

Were you using enamels? That stuff will kill foam and turn it into a gooey mess. Use acrylics and you can cut it with water.  It will begin to absorb into the foam, but repeated passes should give a nice streak. As for cotton, the stuff can make nice smoke, but looks kinda fake. The dio represensts a craft that just hit, right? If it's been there a while, you could have a few vines crawling into the cockpit and add some mossy stuff. That would look kinda cool.

ahh yeah I tried adding some black streaks in the dug out part and it ate the styrofoam even more and the black completely disappeared Confused [%-)]

I tried to do smoke too coming off the engines and tried to do the cotton ball method but failed misreably lol.

Right, so you didn't use black for the wings panels, i like how it has come out. I take it by the gunmetal powder you mean one of those that Tamiya do in the sets. I might have to get one of those and give it a try. Thanks, and great job.
Thanks fellas. For the wing panels I used Testors flat black spray.I was referring to the Tamiya weathering kits. For sci-fi,ya can't beat the effect they have.Great effect with minimal effort. You don't have to be a master modeler to use them in this case. They just work real well for sci-fi.

A crackle came across the radio late in the galactic day.  “Help me, I don’t know where I am, or what happened.  Something appeared out of nowhere and attacked me.  My head is bleeding badly and I can sense  a lot of dangerous animals on this planet… someone.. come quickly.”  They never came, they never could find him.  He left his fighter, trying to find someone, anything that would show a sign of civilization, but he never did

whew I am done!  I found out several things doing this build..

1.)  Krylon Spraypaint will not cover whatever AMT uses for color detail on their snap kits, however brush on Testors paint will.

2.) Snapkits.. are too easy.. I forgot that cuz it's been.. years since I built one Disapprove [V] Almost $20 for it too.. I wouldn't have went for it except I had a 40% off coupon for hobby lobby so it was only like $10

3.) Krylon Spraypaint kinda melts styrofoam.  When I started with the base, other than what I cut out, was totally smooth.. after spraying it brown it half melted.. at least the "crash streak" stayed intact, and it ended up making the rest of the terain more realistic.

4.) Look in the right section and you can find anything for scale modeling O_O

Also my first diorama.. fairly simple but the stuff to make the base cost more than the kit.. Banged Head [banghead]

TD! That thing is great! I really like the grey color, instead of that annoying bluish color. Page 1 will be updated  momentarily!
