Right, so you didn't use black for the wings panels, i like how it has come out. I take it by the gunmetal powder you mean one of those that Tamiya do in the sets. I might have to get one of those and give it a try. Thanks, and great job.

Thanks Bish.I used Testors light sea grey for the base and Polly Scale panzer grey for the darker greeblies.I then gave it a heavy brushing with Tamiya gunmetal powder then sealed it with Testors dullcoat.

TD4438 I have been giving some thought to the MF as well, but at that price it can wait a while. They do do a 1/48 X-wing, but thats it, but i think i will stick with 72nd.

That TIE is awsome Thumbs Up [tup] how did you get that look, and what colour grey did you use. If mine turns out half as nice i will be happy.

TD4438 Thanks, i just need to decide what colour to go for. Don't they do some Rebel craft in 1/48, i am pretty sure they have an X-wing in that scale as well as 72nd. I know i am getting some more including the TIE you have and the rebel craft.

Bish,

Looking good so far.  If it turns out as nice as your 251, it'll be a nice model indeed.

I'm sticking a fork in this one and calling her done.  Blue One, the first A-Wing assigned to Wolf Squadron has been received.  Pics of her can be found at  http://public.fotki.com/lewbud/fine-scale-group-builds/star-wars-gb/  It's been a fun build, may drop back in with a Tie Interceptor if time and other builds allow.  Looking forward to the rest of you guy's builds.

Nice job dude.Hope to see that Interceptor.

Thanks. Its nice to take a break from Armour, i done 4 on the bounce now. And this is getting me in the mood for soem aircraft kits, which i haven't built in about 7 years. Nice A-Wing, i like it. Which TIE-Interceptor are you thinking of.

Heres some pics showing what i was able to get done today, which is almost everything ready to paint. Quite a simple build but i will deffinatly be getting more Fine Molds kits. I like the stand, much better than my Speeder bike and Darth TIE stands which are so flimsy they break every time i look at them.

Looking good Bish.Although pricey,I will be getting more FM kits myself.I love the fact they are all the same scale.

Graham,

PM me your email address and I'll send you a couple of pics.  Did you try right clicking on and then saving the photos?  I haven't messed with settings on my fotki account so you should be able to do that.  If not, then I'll email you a couple.

Awesome Bish! Thumbs Up [tup] I'm digging that stand.

Lewbud, could you give me a photo that I can post here? None of the codes worked, FSM has HTML turned off in posts (At least I think)

I have done a fair few AMT kits, my favorite is the speeder bike,  and still have some in the stash. This is my first fine molds kit, but yes, it is very expensive for its size, one good thing about AMT, they are nice and big.

I am back home now, been back over 2 months, hence the building spreey while i have the chance.

I did have a look at that GB. I do build mostly German stuff, but i do have some none German aircraft, including an Fujimi E-2 i have had for years that i just got a set of folding wings for. But i don't think i will be able to fit it in in time. I think once i finish this TIE i will get on with my second build for the 1,000 road wheels GB,. then my first aircraft will be a SR-71 for the SAC build.

Bish,

Thanks.  As for the TIE Interceptor, it'll be the AMT kit, cuz old kits need love too.  Plus it's a whole lot cheaper than the Fine Molds kit.  As for aircraft, pop on over to the Fleet Air Arm/Naval Air Wing GB.  It's a crazy, but good group of guys.  Tango-1 runs a good ship.  Are you home now or back in the desert?

Once that was done the rest has gone together fast. I have the cockpit with wings attached, minus the black panels. Now all ready for painting, but will get some pics up first.

I haven't used it in ages. I used to use it for my aircraft canopies, but i found i always sctratched the clear bit to hell trying to get the mask off, so i switched to tape. I think the mask might be better for the smaller bit like on the TIE. I will try it on the inside first and see how it works. Like you i plan on brushing the front on the cockpit anyway, its just the top hatch i am going to spary.

Thanks for the tip. At first i thought they were the yellow paper ones. Once i got them out of the bag i realised they weren't. I assume your meant to cut the black bits out and stick in the appropiate place. I think i might give them a miss after what you just said and use my micro mask.

Hey Bish.Let me know if you have problems with the masks for the canopy/windshield.Mine wouldn't stick.I hand painted the windshield and covered the top hatch windows with Elmers glue so I could spray it.

We are going to be seeing double again, but this time you beat me to it.

Heres my TIE-Interceptor which i am guessing is the same as your TIE Fighter apart from the wings.

Very nice! [yup] For weathering, alls that I do for the snap-o's is mix a wash of flat black. Slather it on, remove exces, and make any "carbon scoring" or the equivelent of. That's all I did on my Y-wing.

Update! When I work I work fast.  I hate having somthing on the bench too long or I loose interest, box it up, and end up finding it later like wow O_o (I still have a ferrari F430 about 70% done from two years ago.. a few older than that... LoL)

I had some time today to paint!  Went over the red with "Flat Green" and I thought it came out nicely.  I've seen this scheme used before, I think on an X-Wing with green instead of red, and thought it would look nice on it.  Also made a few streaks for "blaster fire" and painted the engines flat black instead of the weird grey color they were molded in.  Gonna do more too it later but thought I'd post updates

Sorry about the blurriness.  I hate my camera sometimes Sigh [sigh]

natvtxn - I never got into weathering until I came on this board, or even being super accurate but I was younger and just didn't get how good models could look.  This is only my third sci-fi model since getting back into it (X-wing and USS Voyager were the others) and I dunno the Star Wars models just look like they NEED to be weathered and dirty.  Maybe he'll understand one day!

wingform84 -- nice "accidental" weathering...my son has that same one and the Anakin version, I really wanted to show him how to do some weathering but he wanted nothing to do with it, build it-hang it.  oh well.

Aggieman -- looks to me like you turned that "garbage" into a gem.  I think it looks cool, the weathering is nice too...good job!  OBTW, I still have that same magazine, I also have the one from ESB.

Glad to finally see some pics on this thread (besides mine)

I've finished my X-Wing.  It's an old AMT/ERTL kit I've had in the stash for at least a decade, a Christmas gift one year from my sister.  I had all kinds of ideas about fitting it with LED lights in the engines and doing some background lighting on the diorama I had planned for it - but when I really got a look at this kit, I threw all that out the window and just built it.  The kit is garbage - little detail, poor fit, and generally making me wish I had decided to build my FM X-Wing instead.  Oh well, I did still build this thing and I did build the diorama.

I'm calling the diorama "Wedge Escapes" and depicts the sequence after Wedge has fired on the reactor core of the Death Star in Return of the Jedi and is now racing through the tunnels looking for an exit before the Death Star explodes.

This is the magazine I used as a source material, in addition to watching that part of the movie again.

This is the actual photograph from the magazine.

And without further delay, here is the X-Wing:

The diorama was constructed on a thin piece of wood I nailed together to form the wall and the floor, so to speak, with gray foam board applied atop.  I cut styrene sheet and rod to form the braces you see, plus those tubes, and used the container that all my spring-loaded clips came in from Sears to form the big red tube.  Paint for the diorama was Testors spray cans of red and gray.  I painted the X-Wing with a light gray and dark gull gray for the engines, then went after it with jet exhaust, burnt metal (both Model Master metallics), and Tamiya weathering pastels.  I really hated the molded in pilot figure so I painted over the canopy gloss black.

Aggieman! Awesome dio!

Bish, great to have you here!

Wing, I'll update pg. 1! (Nice pic Wink [;)])

While i haven't posted much i have been looking in on this GB and theres been some awsome builds. Now i have finished my Kugelblitz i am going to take a break from armour and get on with some reality. I will get some initial pics up in a day or, but looking at the Fine Molds TIE-IN, its awsome. While it is expensive for such a small kit i deffinatly plan on buying some more. There are 2 points on the minus side though. First, everything is in Japenese, and second, i wish they didf it in 1/48 like the X-wing.

This is my first sci fi kit in years, and in the past i just painted a flat grey and left it at that. But with this i am going to try some weathering, the kit deserves it. Before i start, i have 2 questions. Firstly, whats a good grey to use. I mainly use Tamiya paints but also have a big selection of Enamels, including a few FS grey's. Whats the best way to weather. I have just started useing washers on my armour and was thinking of trying that, but as its a space ship i can't see it getting that dirty. And suggestions.

 Thanks guys, and great GB.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so
