Here's my Revell TIE X-1.  It doesn't mention a scale but it looks like about 1/35th.  It's just a little smaller the the old MPC kit.  Not bad for a slammer straight out of the box.  Used a sludge wash to bring out the details.  First time I tried that technique and I'm sold on it.

My son can't wait to hang it in his bedroom.  As soon as I finish my '38 Chevy stock car, I'll start on that Fine Molds Y-Wing.

Airborne-All the way!

Reddog thats a beautiful finish on Dart's tie, I done this one myself and was not too impressed because I just didn't wearther or wash it. Yours looks cool.

The little guy is coming along. BTW: The new head came from a large electrical wirenut that I trimmed down in a poor man's lathe (clamped my drill to my workbench, superglued a dowel in the wirenut, chucked it in the drill and shaped it with 100 grit sandpaper. Then I smoothed it out with finer grit paper). The piece in between the body and head is a small lockwasher that I flattened with a hammer.  Smile [:)]

Now I need to do something with the legs...

Is it really 1/35th?  I'd love to get 1/35th starwars kits, paint a tiefighter as a Me109, put some german figures with it, awesomness

Thanks, it's an AMT X-wing. An old kit that I've had lying around for a while.

The Y-wings looks great Terry! I love the weathering. You've given me some ideas for mine.

I know! When I saw the price, there was no way I could pass it up! Smile [:)] And if you believe it, I also found a 1/35th Tamiya Panther for 20 bucks and a 1/542nd U.S.S. Forrestal CV-59, again only 20 bucks! Both are older kits but if anyone is from Wisconsin and happens to be wandering around West Allis, I would strongly suggest that you go there!

By the way guys, I'm starting to get back into school mode so if I don't add your name to the list within a week, post a new message to remind me or draw my attention to you. I might miss a few days here and I don't want anyone to be left out! However, please don't PM me. Thanks all! (Reddawg-03, did I miss you? Or did you just join recently? Anyway, I'll add you!)

Which Hobby Shop has such good prices in West Allis?  My Aunt Lives there and I'm just over in Waukesha County.

Sorry! It's model Empire! I can't say enough good things about the place. (No, I'm not advertising) The prices are good, the people are friendly, and they have a large selection! Certain kits however can get a little pricey (and it figures that the pricy stuff is Star Wars Sign - Dots [#dots]) but you can find lot's of reduced kits there. Right now they are having a large sale so if you go, go now! (P.S. Check out the specials! 1/32nd Hasegawa Tomcat for $44!   1/32nd F-15 for 20! Smile [:)])

HEy, Terry/Reddog, are both of them 100% done? If so, post your favorite pic so I can stick it on page 1. Thanks!

Interesting, she is just 15 or so blocks to the west.  I'll have to add that to the list of places to go someday. Thanks for the info!

Mischief [:-,] I been bad.

Actually, the R2 figure that comes w/ the kit is posed w/ the "face" directly forward. Looks very static. As I remember, R2 almost always his the "head" rotated a little to one side or the other, so I removed the head so that I could rotate it a bit, hopefully give him a little life.

He also sat too proud of the models surface. Sticking up that high, he has to interfere w/ the pilots view to the port side, so I trimmed his lower body by about 1/8 of an inch. Looks much better.

I also drilled out the central "eye" so that I can replace it w/ a black MV lens, or a homemade one.

Pictures soon.

I put the Astromech droid away for today and did some detailing of the cockpit. It is quite sparse in this kit. So I rummaged through my junk drawers and dug out a bunch of stuff that I figure could add some 3 dimension to the flat panels. Let's see, some a small panel nail became a corrigated tube, some leads off capacitors became wiring conduit. Other items used were a tiny finish nail, for the dashboard gizmo, two other nails became rails for the ejector seat, the seat itself was made from a sample credit card that came in the junk mail, and various bits of sprue was stretched, cut, sanded or otherwise mutilated into shapes.

I need to trim or sand a few of those bits, but I'm hoping it will look a bit better when I get it primed, then I can start painting it.

Old credit cards, always works! Looks nice so far! Will you detail a pilot? Or is he going outta the window?

That's a great point! I'll have to keep that in mind when I give mine a "face" (well, an eye anyway).

Yea, the pilot is giving me fits. His suit is all wrong. But I need a pilot in there because I'm building it in flight mode. I'm still not sure what to do with him. I'm not good at all with figures. I may just reposition his arms, paint him as best I can and justify the odd suit as his personal preference.

Actually, I hate the orange suit they use in the movies anyway. I figure they would want camo or something fairly subdued in case they crash landed and had to escape and evade.

Started work on the Encounter with Yoda on Friday, but my camera was borrowed and finally retuned today.  Initially I was surprised at how big it is.  The base is a little smaller than a dinner plate.  I would guess scale is between 1/20 and 1/16, but I'm not really sure.

I promise a better pic of the base will come eventually, but my camera wouldn't auto focus at all on it.  I have 6 others just like it to prove it.

Constuction began, and here are the initial pics.  The box said this is a snap together model (?) but is still skill level 2.  Odd....

Each figure had these large posts and a corresponding hole in the other half where they fit into.  There were also guide pins around the edges as well.  I gave the big posts the chop since they interferred more than helped.  Detail is surprisingly good on everything.

It really does look like Mark Hamill! (though he's wearing hockey gloves)

And the joys of working on an AMT Kit: horrible seams!

I'm actually quite surprised by the detail of this kit.  Yoda's robe and face have pretty good texture and R2 is great.  Aside from his hands, the Luke figure is ok too.

This build is going to boil down to two things: seam filling and figure painting.  Should be a wild ride!  Captain [4:-)]

Now, it's back to the box for the time being to start on another GB project.  This kit is my Fridays project.

My apologies to any dial-uppers who check this post.

Maybe because of all the painting?

 What scale are those glamdring?

If that s the X-Wing from about the time of the first movie then dont kill yourself trying to detail it, there are some major issues with that kit. Check out Starshipmodeller first.

If its the one that came with the electronics kit then it shouldn't be too bad, its a bit better.

But the most important, if your just building for fun, then carry on regardless, becaus it looks fun to be bashing away at.

Graaham, going back to work, will post ASAP. with more shots.

An excellent question, the kit doesn't say the scale, at least anywhere I can find it, but I believe it is larger than 1/20 but smaller than 1/16.  I'm just ballparkin it, I really have no clue.

I like the look of the cockpit, adding odds and ends to it really makes it look sharp!

Yea, it is the old one. I'm not going for accuracy or anything, just having fun with the imagination. Anyway, I did some screen shots from the movie for ideas and it seems that there are some real differences between the 1/1 mockups, the scale models and the CGI models they used. They were wildly inconsistent when you look critically at them.

I'm actually having fun with this sci-fi stuff. It's a lot less stressful than trying to match up a model to some blurry, black and white refs.

Thanks for starting this GB Graham/"Boba Fett"!

Those AMT seams are nothing compared to the Marvel Comics THOR figure, which has the worst seams I've ever seen in my entire life.  I used a whole tube of sqaudron on the thing.  I will be joining the GB most likely, but not sure with what yet.  I may hit the store tonight, as I need some food for the house, but I'm so sick it's not funny.  Wife doesn't know how to drive so not handing over the keys.

Thanks! It kind of started out out as desperation to do something,.. anything.. to improve the terrible cockpit.  Now it's probably more "Hardware Wars" than Star Wars!

...  Anyone get the obscure "Hardware Wars" reference?

Glamdring: If the site where I checked was correct, the scale is 1/16th. Looks good so far! Yes, I HATEHATEHATEHATEHATEHATE those seams! I ran into them on my Scout trooper on speeder (which I converted to a storm commando) and just... UGH! Yup, Greenfied st.       (or ave. or whatever) Great place to stop by!
