Geez Crusher, thats a really shitty deal. Do the migraines give you good and bad times? Hopefully its just a bad patch your going through. I hope so, cos that means it WILL get better. Dont fret about the building. We'll wait and just give you loads of homework to be doing while you cant model. What a great bloke i am, Eh?

Jeremy, the SM is looking mighty fine, bud. My 1/72 italieri SM went together like a dream. No filler anywhere. I love the look of the Helo under the tail. Post a pic of that. If you want.

Sir Aaron of the MacNeals, it doesnt seem right you not being a regular lately. Were like a meatball sarny without one of the meatballs. Your here in spirit though, right? Good man. Now wheres Bondo? Fissed as a part under some Italians table prolly.

Looks like you are making some good progress there Jeremy. I looked through all of my books for the Sm 79 and none of them make any reference to the holes on the top of the wings. Obviously some kind of intake similar to the ones found on the lower leading edge of the B-17 but I do not know thier specific function. Just a thought as I do not know what type of reference pics you have but there are some support wires on the tail tha might be easier to drill out now and then fit after painting. A nice touch that would really bring your build up a notch. Also I think I mentioned to you do not follow the kit instructions in regaurds to the torpedoes. In combat they only carried one torpedo mounted on the port side. The weight of two torpedoes was found to be very dertrimental to the performance of the plane.

I feel like a slacker with my lack of progress but this darn migrane has me in a stranglehold. Absolute misery. Back about five years ago I suffered a severe injury to the back of my head on the left lower side. Three months of therapy am I thought I was alright but I am now finding out that some minor brain damage was done causing me alot of medical problems. The last doctor visit was not good. My doctor who by the way is Italian born and raisedBig Smile [:D] has told me the damage is permanet and ireversible. My modeling time has suffered accordingly. I usally can only work at night after I take my medications and my hand do'nt shake and my head is a little clearer. So my output is way down and I have even sold off some high end kits but I will never stop building!

Guy, that Kyofu(?) looks like a pretty neat plane and you've done a marvelous job on the cockpit.

I don't work as fast as Guy, so I'm going to update with every little thing I do. That way I look busy! Wink [;)] (works with my boss)

Got her closed up and the wings on today. I was quite impressed with the fit of the wing to fuselage, especially at the top. I almost feel bad for whining about all the other problems. Smile [:)] She's definitely an impressive sized beast!

Just curious, but does anyone know what the three holes on the leading edge of the wing are?

SC - Hope you start feeling better. I don't get migraines but I get alot of headaches and they just plain suck. Can't imagine a migraine. Anyway... feel better soon!

Guy that look like a great choice for a second build. That kit has alot more resin that the G-55 thats for sure! The type 11 floatplane looks like a nice build and the prop spins too! Cool. Congrats on losing the 4 lbs. I'm sure you will be looking as hansome as Scott Baio soonBig Smile [:D]!

Sorry they have you working so much Sarge we miss you round here.

I myself have not spent much time at the bench. I just can'y seem to shake this migrane headache for more than a couple of hours at a time. I did manage to spray the final dullcoat last night and unmask the canopy. Now its time for all of the fiddly bits. Hopefully soon.

Hi all, As i mentioned i went to my LHS and came away with 2 kits. One is winging its way across the pond to an all round good guy. Hopefully it will reach him in good nick. The other kit is going to be my next RA build,

Look at all that lovely resin mmmmmm,

I have another build on the go though to do 1st, Dont panic, ive been a busy beaver. Heres the model im doing,

My plan is to beat the thing up and, maybe, stick it in a basic dio (A 1st for me). I have gotten the fuz together and the 3 floats are together as well. At this rate ill get some paint on it before the weekend. The cockpit OOB is cracking and only needed some belts and an acetate sheet for the reflector on the sight to make it respectable. Ill post some pics here because its my GB and i dont care LOL. Oh and you lot, i consider my mates,

I love fish, but I prefer fresh out of the lake Walleye (pickerel to us Canucks).  If I'm really looking to spoil myself though it has to be a rack of ribs in hickory BBQ sauce.

Laugh [(-D] That's hilarious!

4lbs in one week... that sounds pretty darn good to me! Thumbs Up [tup] I might have to try your technique. I like to be in the buff and nowadays when I walk outside and the sun shines on my large, pasty white love handles... the animals all scurry! Karen has been on my case about my weight but she keeps cooking like she's feeding an elephant! Guess I'll have to keep putting food in Soulcrusher's mailbox... he could use it more than me. Wink [;)]

BTW, Voidses - I was kidding about your plate... it actually looks good! I love asparagus and especially fish. Salmon is good but swordfish is great! And the best of all? Freshly caught catfish!  Yummy! Big Smile [:D]

Ok Voidses I can see you are going to have to be educated here. I will cut you some slack because I know you do not live in the states. That my freind is a little slice of heaven! I will let Bondo explain all of the finer points of Italian food. Do'nt get me wrong I love fish too but you have not lived unless you have had a nice big meatball sandwich on some fresh Italian bread. I mean this is the Regia Aeronatica GB right!?

Guy, very nice job indeed and well done sir, the overspray really blended all the colours very well and it looks great.

Jeremy, very nice progress and looking good. I want to build one of those whenever I happen to find one, been looking but no joy so far.

Unfortunatly Jeremy you got everything Trumpeter is known for. Ejector pins all over the place. Most of them in highly visible areas. That and just plain poor overall quality. Lets face it if its made in China is crap. Thats all they know how to do. They really make you work to fix all of there screw ups to get a nice build out of it.  Save me a meatball sandwich!Big Smile [:D]

 soulcrusher wrote:

Your Sm 79 is looking good so far. I have the same kit stashed away. I also have the Classic Airframes Sm 79 also. It really blows the Trumpeter away because it has a complete highly detailed resin interior. It also is made so that the hump back behind the cockpit can be posed open to see all of the detail. Something that Trumpeter should have done.

                                                                                                SoulcrusherPirate [oX)]

Thank you!

I read a couple of reviews on the Classic Airframes kit and it looked really nice. IMHO, it's a good thing that Trumpeter didn't make the hump back open. There is zero detail below it and the rear of the fuselage is full of large nasty ejector pin marks. As it is, the door on the side was only meant to be posed open. There is no way to close it unless you make something to hold it in place... just falls right through. The outside of the door has two deep ejector pin marks in it and three sink marks that coincide with the framework on the inside of the door. It's not beyond most people's skills to correct these problems, but it's just a PITA! Like I said before... I was expecting a little more from a Trumpeter kit.

BTW... in the last picture you can kind see the line in the window that I was talking about. Every single one of them has it. Even though all the cockpit glass is one piece, a few of the panes have the line also. It is actually in the plastic itself... can't be buffed out! Angry [:(!]
