Geez you freeks. All whitering on about spiders. Did i mention i have a huge irrational fear of the things? Arachnophobia to the enth degree. Seriously they give me the shakes if thier bodies are larger than, say, your pinky finger nail. I squeal like a girl if one surprises me (And remember, all UK varieties are allegedly harmless)  A friend of mine, many years ago, knowing my fear, gave me one in a matchbox. I didnt know what it was and opened the box. I broke his nose, and didnt speak to him for about a year and a half.

Just seeing those pics has given me the heebies, and for that i want homework from the lot of you, yes, the lot. I want pics of cuddly stuff, like puppies, as penance...and maybe an appology video Big Smile [:D]

Well since we are on the subject of creepy crawlies, here are a couple baddies from down under. The Red Back iswhat it looks like, a cousin to the Black Widow with the same type of bite. The White-tail is more like a Brown Recluse in it's bite. Red back females can reach about 1.5" normal leg spread and the white-tail about 1".

There is another bad one farther north, sydney trap door spider. I'm sure there are many more here but that is the ones I know about. There is one like a banana spider although not as colorful. A brownish gray color called a Huntsman. They get like the size Aaron mentioned, about 2" but are harmless.

That is a very cool story Bondo!  Saved by a potentially maiming event!  Whats bad down here is they are not so little.  Suprisingly (to me) The largest recorded in Texas had a 2 and 3/4 inch body. Easily the size of a childs hand. I looked that up after stepping on one on the back porch that was about 2 inches.  The crunch it made still gives me shivers and them buggers are quick.

Sorry to have been so harsh on your hero but they do like to get in the house.

Worse spider story I have was while working as a switchman in Galveston in the dark I was bleeding off the air on a pair of mile long tracks and ran into this giant web between the two tracks.

This is the comon bananna spider big and scary looking but harmless.

What I ran into was the Brown Banana Spider also known as the Brazilian Wandering spider.

brazilian spider whole foods

These fellows grow to the size of a dinner plate.  Two jumps and it can cross a street. Unreal how fast it moved.

When I ran into the web those big legs came out over the brim of my hat. Apparently they come off the produce boats hiding in the bananna bunches. Well I almost knocked myself out  screaming like a little girl down between the dark tracks with that fellow.  Thankfully it didn't hang around long either but we saw it darting across the yard from time to time in the headlights.

Come to find out they are one of the worlds most venomous spiders and have been known to kill a man in 25 minutes. No joke look it up.  Unlike the brown recluse that runs off and avoids contact these fellows are counted as being rather aggressive.  Nice to have had one on top my head eh?

In 2000 my wife went on a business trip to Jakarta for a week. While she was gone, and I was minding the nest, I developed what for all the world seemed to be a pimple on my left ring finger. By the time she got home, it was a big angry swelling. We went to see the Doc the next day and he gave me an exam. So he's standing behind me while I'm sitting on that naugahide slide to hell, and he says "have a Dermatologist look at this Nevus (mole) on your back. And I'm admitting you to the hospital right now."

I spent three nights in the hospital, where they slit my finger wide open from first knuckle to base of the nail, put my hand in traction, and put me on an antibiotic drip. Cut the wedding ring in pieces to get it off.

I had been bitten by one of these in the bedroom. My finger actually died, but luckily I still have it.

The good part is that I went to the Derm and he did a biopsy of the nevus. It turned out to be Melanoma, which is a whole other story that I'm cured of, but that little Brown Recluse saved my life. No exaggeration.

Fear the Brown Recluse!

When I lived in Arkansas my cousin was bitten on the shin by that bad mamajama. I couldn't look at his leg for months without puking... and the smell! Yuck [yuck] Dead [xx(]

Thanks for giving me the compass info and the chills, Aaron! Big Smile [:D]

Guess I will scratch build myself a compass and spray with insecticide before installation!

*EDIT*

Gets too cold in RI for Brown Recluse. What am I worried about? You're just trying to scare me! Shock [:O]

The Brown Recluse. A Deadly spider with large enough fangs to easily penatrate the human skin. It's venom actually digest the tissue resulting in huge open growing non healing sores that look something like a shark bite that is rotting!  On my front porch with loads of babies on her back. This is a relatively small one with only a 1 inch body not counting her shapely legs.  She is demanding in progress pics! Or she may visit you as well!  ( lets hope not) Evil [}:)]

Easily recognized by the fiddle shaped marking above the eight stationary eyes this is a nocturnal hunter. Hiding in the shadows and likes to make its home in clothing hanging in closets. Maybe even the shirt you are going to put on in the morning. Perhaps inside your shoe?   She wants you!!!!!! Dead [xx(]

After finishing the seatbelt, I booted my lovely wife Karen from the computer to make my previous post. She graciously stepped aside so that I could get my forum fix... she always does. In fact, as long as the chores are done, she doesn't say a word about me playing with my silly airplanes.

Looking for some pics of the SM79 I saved on the computer, I ran across some of our wedding photos. Since this is the Italian area and my little Italian seductress "allows" me to be here, I figured I would introduce you to her.

Notice the smile on her face and the lack of one on mine... she thinks she has my fortune! HA!

"Is it in here?" She thinks that she has found it! HAHA!

"Nothing but airplane models?!" HAHAHA!

In the end... I win! Big Smile [:D]

Seriously... she's a great gal (with a mean Italian temper) and I love her for many things including stepping aside when I want to slide from the modeling desk to the computer.

Thank you very much for the tutorial, Guy! Bow [bow]

The cake was my favorite part of trying this! Basically I tried to somewhat replicate what you did to get a little practice before I figure out what I need to do for my particular aircraft. After a few attempts and a couple of beer breaks, this is the end result. I need to find some smaller wire and something a little sharper to cut it with but not too bad.

Guy I would definetly agree the red lamp has to go. That pic is a good representative as to what a typical WWII G-55 should look like. Wing cannons no under cowl guns. I think Special Hobby based there kit of of that G-59 at that museam. Still the G-55 is a tough plane to research. I could not find any real pics of the one I am building so I had to guess as to how the mottling was painted on the fuselage sides.

Bondo Back! Alright we knew you just could not stay away long from such a cool bunch of model building dudes!

Guy what with the pie tin?! I though you were on a diet?

Im not convinced. I reckon that you can make out the line of the under fuselage. Im pretty convinced that the light is the sort of thing that sensible people would have fitted to airplanes, rather than warplane manufacturers, trying to get the plane as slippery smooth as poss.

Voidses, I cant remember where i got the lead wire from. It was a british co though. I doesnt have to be lead though. Any thickish wire will do.

#EDIT# Heres where i got it from,

My mispainted gear bay door is now (you guessed it) repainted and the build is back on track, might post a few pics if I get to it. We'll see.

LOL, can you tell im at home, Alone, on a pc thats working fast?

I had a quick browse and found this great pic of a G.55 that doesnt appear to have the redc central light. In the walkaround pics, its inline with the front of the wheel wells, in the centre,

it also shows the bomb hangers that i was going to leave off. Doh, on they go i spose.

#EDIT# in this pic, it shows an early series,0 with the bumps in front of the radiator. Cool, those are being left off.
