Wow guys, everything seems to be coming along swimmingly. Dave the flying greenouse, or is it somesort of Umbrella?, is looking purdy.

Heres an update with the confusing Fiat. I say confusing as im still a little unsure as to what goes with what. My main point of reference is the walkaround from pge1 The only problem with that is that its a G.59, backdated to look like a G.55. Mmmm. One of the probs are these bittys,

prts A34, and A37, the destructions say use them, but then again the destructions are for a series,0 and mines a series,1. Told you it was confusing, the walkaround pics dont show them anywhere,

FIAT_G.55_043.JPG FIAT_G.55_042.JPG FIAT_G.55_059.JPG

This brings me nicely to the red light, above. The kit has this molded in, but would this have been a post war addon? Heres the kits representation,

Anyhoo, i think ill do a little more delving on the net before a submit. I managed to detail a few more bits though. I did the rear of the radiator,

FIAT_G.55_011.JPG

I also cut out and separated the vacform canopy,

compared to the original,

Almost ready for paint. For some reason i cant help making problems for myself with this kit LOL

Seeing as im in full flow, i did a quick toot for Jeremy with the seatbelts. Heres how i bodge em together. First you need an old cake tin, mmmmmmmcake. and some lead wire or copper. As long as its thinnish,

1stly cut a piece of the tin off and burnish it flat with the blunt end of your scalpel,

next up cut a length roughly to size, (Good refs are vital) and add a half loop about half way,

I then make the buckle. To do this i use my tweezers and bend the wire around them, a side at a time to make a square shap roiughly the same internal width as the belt width,

this is then simply CA'ed to the belt over the half loop you made. I also cut the belt off to....err..belt shape and poked a few eyelets in it,

then a simple coat of Tamiya Khaki and its done,

The whole thing including pics, took about 10mins (And it shows) Take a little more time and you could have genius work in your hands. The good thing about using the cake tim, is the fun eating it, Obviously, and the fact you can bend and glue it easily.

Aaron, I was thinking the same thing about Dave's CA.311. Without the greenhouse it looks a lot like an Anson!

SC That looks awesome!!! Looking forward to seeing it in flat coat!!! Plus more pics!!!Thumbs Up [tup]

Sarge all decals are on and now under a second coat of Future. Could not post pics last night because the internet connection was not working properly. Three days and the cable company still has not found the problem why my internet connection keeps going in and out. Here are a couple of pics. Tomorrow panel wash and a dullcoat. Then on to the fiddle bits!

Alright fellas... I've come for some advice.

Work on the Sparviero is kinda slow but so am I. I'm ready to toss in the seats and wanted to try my hand at making seatbelts. Since I can foul up pretty much anything you give me and there won't be too much to see in the cockpit, I figure this is the perfect plane to practice on.

I've heard of using tape for such things and I'm sure that the skills I gained in kindergarten a few years back would allow me to cut it to shape. Wink [;)] I'm curious about how to make buckles and all those other metal thingies attached to seatbelts.

Am I even on the right track as far as this goes? I would appreciate any help and I promise I'll let you guys be the first to laugh at the results. Big Smile [:D] Laugh [(-D]

Dave  I am sorry I must be somewhat cracked as I am not recognizing the type aircraft that your building. I saw the big ol bombs but it looks like a big Avro Anson to me?  Great work though on whatever it seems to be.  I'll call it a Fiatireggiane Umbrella Bomber!

F-U _B for short!

Bondo ! You never told me if I was right about the location of your pic? Is it the End of the dirty Harry movie location? Or is the connection something far more sinister?

I am noticing there still is no decals from SC or paint from Guy?  A fine example of effort that shines just like slug slim if you ask me!  I see now that I am going to have to kick it up a notch or 12! Evil [}:)]Big Smile [:D]

Major assembly is complete.  Rudder needs some minor repairs before it gets glued on and the elevators are not glued yet either.  Canopy dry fit looks promising!  Thumbs Up [tup]  Just got to sort out the seams and mask the canopy Shock [:O] and add the engines (more on that later Disapprove [V]).

Guy,  you asked earlier about the orange tint.  I masked the windows using some old architectural stuff called Letra Set.  It was widely used in the days before all the computer wizardry stuff.   Anyway, I inherited a bunch of sheets when my employer closed up shop in June and thought I'd give it a try for masking.  Worked okay, it's very low tack and cuts well but it won't wrap around curves.  I'm a little worried that some of the orange may have rubbed off on the window frames which may remain after I take the mask off.  I'm crossing my fingers that it doesn't.

Ok Sarge I give up! I will have thoses decals in place tonight and some progress pics posted. Man that was brutal. Especially that last photo! It looks like I might have to make that second video just to prove to all of you that I am not Scott Baio. I think I will do it at the rifle range. I bet Scott Baio does not own a Mauser 98K and know how to shoot it!

Where is Guy and his new phone? Now he has no excuse for not posting all day long.Big Smile [:D]

Thanks for the pep talk Sarge. I'm good to go now!Thumbs Up [tup]

Geez, Aarons started to threaten ppl now. I know that was his officiall job in the GB but geez, i dint expect him to get his Clint out!! Whats wrong with you SC, get those decals on...God knows who hes going to be threatening you with next? Jennifer Love Hewitt (She frightens me)

I thought that my G.55 was close to paint, but as with these things ive found a dozen little odds and sods that need fettling. Another job ive finished is the vacform canopy. It has been separated, as funnily with the kit, it only comes with a single piece canopy. Very strange. Ill post a couple of pics tomorrow hopefully.

Do'nt sweat it Voidses. We all make mistakes. The difference is the real modeler has the ability to fix em' and still turn out a good model in the end. Look at poor Guy and all of the problems the G-55 gave him. Still he soilders on fixes the mistakes and keeps going without missing a beat. Do'nt be shy about asking questions either. With all of us here I am sure one of us will have the correct answer for just about anthing you could want to know. Back to the workbench now and man up! Guy can tell you I have completly stripped more than one model for a botched paint job. In the end I whipped them all into shape!

You are correct Guy they are not Luftwaffe colors but I have found that some of the colors are a very close match. I painted my three colored camo Macchi 202 using Sandgelb for the sand Olivegrun for the green and then Tamiya XF 64 Redbrown fo the third color with just a little more red added to it. I could not find any color match for the Bluegrey underside in the Acrylics that my hobby shop carries so I mixed it myself using Model Masters Neutral Gray and Model Master Meduim Blue. So start painting there big boy. I guess I will not bother to send you that box of Italian chocolates I bought for you seeing as you are on a diet now. Sarge would probally take them I bet!

Voides Guy prop is correct. Most engines are built to rotate in a clockwise direction when running including the DB605A that was installed in the Fiat G-55 One example of an engine that the prop blades would be facing in the other direction is a Spitfire of a Hurricane. The Merlin engine rotates in a counterclockwise direction and the gear box os set up to rotate the prop conterclockwise also.

Right! Im sorted. I went to Stormo and found the plane im now going to be modelling. Heres a pic of it from Wings palette,

Fiat G.55/G.56/G.59 Centauro - Italy (RSI)

Pretty cool huh? I also read that the colours wernt exact like the luftwaffe. The paint colours varied from manufacturer to manufacturer. Which gives me a little scope with my guestimations. The only one im going to have to mix is the maroony colour.

Jeremy, great work so far. If mine is anything to go by. You see diddly in the pit! You see a fair bit in the fuzz if you chose to have the door open though.

Crusher, ive got another quandry with my G.55. In the destructions, it calls for different paints for the splinter to the AM decals. The only one thats the same is the underside grey. Im off to Stormo to see what i can find out.

Thank you sir! My wife says that I don't talk or act like myself in the short video. She says I sound too cocky! Believe it or not, I was very nervous! Had plenty of pictures taken of me but never a video. The wife has played parts in several bad horror movies so she has experience. She wanted to coach me... sheesh! Can you believe that? I'll make another one for you guys in the future and this time I'll let her coach me. Should be some good stuff! Smile [:)]

I found out about the inaccuracies already! The Trumpeter instructions tell you to paint the interior italian interior green with light gray rudder pedals, light blue control sticks and silver yoke centers. No mention of the seats but I believe they should be silver. STORMO! says the interior should be blue grey. I mixed a couple of paints until I thought I had the correct color. One of the paints I used was gloss and one was flat. Well... they mixed fine but they didn't lay down too well. Fisheye! Angry [:(!] I covered it up the best I could and hopefully a nice flat coat will do it some good.

The interior has almost zero detail. Fitting the fuselage together kinda showed that there won't be much to see inside anyway. I added some wire looms and some actuator rods behind the control yokes. Probably horribly incorrect but at least it's a little busier inside there.

I also added some throttle levers to the hump below the Instrument panel. Again, probably not correct but looked better than nuthin'.

One queston I have for the pros here. Should I give the interior parts a black wash? There's really not much detail to highlight and the surfaces are pretty flat. I didn't know how well a wash would look on such flat open spaces.

Guy - How did you make the supercharger butterfly? Nice effect!

That splinter camo looks soooo cool that I would paint it on anyway! I'm all about the cool factor... not so much accuracy! Wink [;)]

*EDIT*

Looks like SC is on the ball with that one! Very nice! Thumbs Up [tup]

Right here Sarge! Reporting for duty. I was out at the rifle range all day shooting my Mauser 98k and my freinds Mosin Nagant M1944. I have the bruises on my shoulder to prove it too! Man both of those rifles kick like a mule! Just finished cleaning the Mauser and thought I would check up on everyone. I ask someone to catch me up but there has been so much posted in my absence I do'nt think I have the time to respond to all of it so if I miss your post sorry.

Jeremy looks like a great camo scheme to me. Do'nt be afraid to ask questions as the Trumpeter instructions are full of inaccuracies. Going to watch your viddy after posting.

Dave looks like you are making some nice progress on a tough kit. Well done. You might want to borrow some of Aaron's meds to keep from going crazy when it comes time to mask all of that glass. Probally why my 311 has been resting peacfully in the stash pile for two years.

Guy a diet? Say it is'nt so! No more chocolate cake or has Mrs Lufty grown tired of the unwanted emissions that come afterwards? Looks like that Special Hobby kit is really messing with your head. Are you sure someone is not swaping the parts around on the bench when you are not looking.  Funny the only bad spot on my CA G-55 is right in the same spot. The rear of the left wing root just does not want to play nice, I filled and sanded it three times and it still is a little rough. My thinking is the same as yours. The airbrushing is going to make or break this kit not a seam that is a bit wonky.

Old Sarge is on a stringbag tear! After looking at all of those pics I had to go to the stash and pull out my Tamiya 1/48 Swordfish. Man there are alot of parts in that kit. Doubles because it is the clear version. I'm not building mine until I track down the photo-etch for it. I would have payed the ten extra buck for the kit if they had put them in there. It has to be the dumbest thing Tamiya had done in along time not including them in the kit. Mine is definetly going to be painted in the Bismark scheme when I get around to it.

As for my G-55 the Future is nice and dry so unless I get real lazy tonight t(it had been known to happen) there shall be decal going on. I am really wanting to start the Special Hobby Kit that good old Sarge sent me so I need to get moving. Mabye even some pics tonight!

Mmmmmm, i dont know whats in the baggy, but its got me feeling hungry. The diet im on allows me a milkshake for breakfast, another for lunch and only a 600 calorie meal for my evening meal. Its only been a day but i swear, if either of my dogs gives me any hassles, thier waffles!!

Ive finally sorted the tail dilema,

ive got the guns on changing it from a series 0 to a series 1, you can also see the supercharger butterfly in the en of the pipe,

Ive opened out the shell and belt ejection ports,

and painted a prop, YAY,

As the beast is nearing paint, Yes, nearing paint. Im a bit squirly about the paint job ive chosen. The multi colour splinter i want to do on the destructions is for the series 0,

on the AM decal sheet ive got, I cant tell if its for an early or late machine. There doesnt appear to be lower gun troughs, yet there is wing canons,

Soooooo, can i model the splintered plane as a late model? Help.
