OT - sorta.. Alright I know some of the Best "Luft" builders hang out here in this gb. I was looking through several books showing "Mistels" does anyone know of a good kit that has a 109 or FW married to an old Junkers or similar ? Or better yet plans for scratchbuilding such a unique build ?

Well done Guy!  Another stunner for your collection. Approve [^]

Can you believe it?  I'm building a 109 in Italian colors, and Guy is using 109 decals on a French plane in Italian service. Shock [:O]  Next thing you know, someone will build that P-51, P-38, or B-24 in RA markings. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Guy that D520 looks great in the Italian colors. How are you going to top this build now. Mabye that P-38 you have been talking about. Come on now you know you want to build one. It might be hard to find markings that fit due to the very narrow fuselage and wingtips. You have to do at least one more otherwise I will be lonely building my 202 all by myself here.

Mike I did some research when I first saw this kit and came across that pic. It is a very interesting story. If you look at the box pic I posted you can see the prancing horse badge on the fuselage side. I am really looking foward to building this one.

Hi guys, a little update but no pics yet. The engine of the Falco is done, except of the basic construction i`ve tried some further detailing by adding the pushrods to the front and back rows of cilynders, scratchbuild from fine copper wire and aluminum foil /i didn`t like the etched rods, but making my own rods eas a real pain, not mentioning that it was my first try at detailing an engine/. I also added the exhaust tubes that go in the collector, they were made from fine 1 mm insulated cable, which actually helped me make fine bends /first i`ve tried copper wire but the bends were rough and didn`t felt right/. Last i did the ignition harnesses from really thin wires from an old phone cable /they appear a bit underscale but there wasn`t enough room to put bigger diameter wire/. So now i`m going back to the pit which will also be paintful with all those tiny photo etched parts. Meanwhile i shaved the engine cover and cut the tail wheel cover which is removed on the ICR-42. Enough chit chat, hopefully i`ll be able to take some photos tomorrow and post them.

P.S. Hmm, nothing bad happened last week, so i`m wondering "What`s with Dave"?Whistling [:-^]

Is this what you're looking for Sean?

http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=AX05040

I think I remember seeing an old airfix with a JU88 but can't find anything.

Dragon has a similar affering in 1/48 but I heard so many nasty things about their Me262 Mistel combination that I would be hesitant to recommend this one.

Dave - That is exactly what I was looking for. I keep forgetting about all those wonderful Airfix kits they are coming out with. I believe I have a magazine with drawings to scratch a mistle but which one out of hundreds hid away. Sigh [sigh]

Have you melted out completly yet ? I spent most of last week Straightning Rims and tuning up the fleet of bikes. Cowboy [C):-)] I would like to plan on coming up your way maybe in August.

Hey Sean, check this site out too.  Shows lots of the different mistel kits that are out there.  The old airfix kit that I was thinking of has a Do217 not the junkers.

August would be perfect for a visit as July is pretty much booked up.  Shoot me an email or PM later and we can discuss.  The snow is pretty much all gone in the valley and I've been riding the trainer and on the road but have not gone on the trails here yet.  Was in Vancouver last weekend and rode some trails with my Brother out there.  Wife gave me the okay to start shopping for a new bike, woohoo!!! As i promised, the pics. First the original

And now my attempt on representing the engine

I hope you like what i`ve done with the motor. I know it`s not perfect but thats the best i can do with my scills and i`m really proud with the rough texture i`ve managed to give to the cast iron engine block.

Some great work Congo on that motor.  Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]  Great reference pictures too!

Guy, thought I had commented on your De520 but my mind isn't what it used to be.  Awesome work mate and can't wait to see that P-38! Big Smile [:D]

Very nice work Congo. Dont sell yourself short mate, she looks a honey. Great refs as well.

Dave, Cheers my friend. I wasnt sure what my next build was going to be so i started a little floatplane from a company called Fly. Its a Macchi M.5, Hopefully it should be an easier build than the D.520. If Frank doesnt mind ill also post pics here as it is an Italian plane be it WW1.

Hmmmm... pretty quiet in here.  Guy must be pulling his hair out trying to figure out his WWI Italian plane.  He should be done the P-38 any day now. Mischief [:-,]

Dave I am all ready to go on my second build but unfortunatly the only one I could find was residing on Guy's side of the pond and I am stuck waiting for it to make the journey. At least the Royal Post seems to be much better at getting items over her than the USPS is at getting them from one side of the country to another.

I am up against the wall! This GB is #2 on the list, behind Nam's PBY which is coming along but involves a lot of scratchbuilding. The Cant Z 501 will rise again, but may not figure till next month. I also have a figure project in association with, so a lot to do. Gotta take Miss Bondo to look at UC Davis Saturday, I say gotta but it's a proud moment for us.

Pant pant, wish wish oh that I had a free moment...

Hey kids, daddys home. I went to look for the GB and Burger me if we wernt down on pge 2. Geez shocking fellas. Get posting LOL.

As you know im doing this Macchi M.5 Fly for Franks GB but seeing as this is my GB ill post my updates here as well. I better check the rules to see if its ok.....Hey, I wrote the rules and i say Yey.

#copied from Franks Gb#

Ive had today off so i started on the Macchi. Heres what she looks like if any of you dont know already,

The kit doesnt have that many parts but does come with an impressive array of resin,

which brings me to my mission of the day, the engine,

after a coat black, i sprayed the whole thing with alclad steel,

I then detailed it further using sparse references for this engine. I added plug wires, Various pipes, throttle link, rad hoses and maybe some other stuff that escapes me,

and finally wethered using brown and rusty pastels and tamiya smoke mixed with black for the oil leaks, (All engines leak a bit LOL)

While various bits were drying, i prettyfied the sparse dash panel,

There are other bits that are drying as we speak...err...read...whatever. So ill post them shortly.

Guy - Super looking project you have chosen to build. I also believe the engine should fire right up from the looks of it. Are you going to rescribe this kit also ?  Great job using the Tamiya Pastels - I bought several sets about a year ago, they are still sealed in the plastic wrap..Sigh [sigh]

Thx Sean, i dont think this one needs any rescribing (Thank God) As for the pastels, they were Mig pigments, not those dire Tamiya things. I know quite a few ppl who have the Tamiya ones but noone has used them, as far as i know.

Guy, that is a great looking flying boat and I know it will turn out great. Your work on the engine is top shelf my friend, very realistic.

BTW, when are you going to start the HE-115, I cant wait to see your work on that. Its not Italian but its in keeping with your current run of flying boats.

The engine looks great Guy. I am still waiting on my Hasegawa Macchi 202 to arrive from over on your side of the pond. I really want to get started on it but there is not much I can do until it actually arrives.Banged Head [banghead]

Hey Guy? Looking rather quaint!  The paint job is tops and what did you do with the rest of the Engine?

Indeed, got castor oil all over my hair.

Hey, Joey, I took care of that t'ing for you.

What's that?

Those nasty wing root seams on the Seagull. Nice looking form, feels good under the hand, but needed some filler, you know what I mean

Hey Johnnie, check it out.

What's that?

Cousin Bondo's come up on his quattro mille!

Gonna have to take him down to the docks, badda bing.

Thats all of it Aaron. Open to the four winds. Another version has the side covers on but i love looking at greasy oily engines so this is the one for me. This one also has the NMF on the top deck. So that should be interesting.

Yey, Bondo's here and hes started his seagull. I have one of those and ill be watching the build with interest. The only thing ive seen that looks a little off, is the x supports on the wings look a little overscale. Probably too much Agg to do something with it (For me anyhoo).

Come on SC, why dont you swim out to meet the package. That way you can start building earlier. The ammount of rain that Sarge had, hed better check its not floating up his street!!

Guy I was hoping you might have some influence with the Royal Post to mabye speed things along. I have no idea what the average time a package takes to make its way from over there to here in New England. I hope it is not to much longer because I really need a break from working on the Fokker with its extremly complicated fuselage camo pattern and I do not want to start another build. Its still early here 1 PM EST or -6 GMT so it might still show up today. I have been praticing some preshading on a extra Hurricane wing to past the time and actually I tried some new tricks and I am very happy with my efforts. I cant wait to try them out on a real model. So should I expect MacNeal to be floating by in a rowboat anytime soon?

No Sean that is definetly not my Macchi 202 but I would not be disappointed if she showed up instead. Something tells me that if Aaron found my package first I might have a hard time getting him to hand it over!

Good news! I arrived home to find my Macchi waiting for me. I quickly removed it from its protective wraping and drooled over it for about five minutes. I will not be able to actual start on it till later tonight so I left it under the watchfull eyes of my best mate Scooter.

I'm off now to clear the bench and my schedule so I can sit down later and get a good start.
