SC, Pics, we need Pics Big Smile [:D]  Looking good so far.

Charles, superb little build you got there.  I am indeed jealous and highly approve of your foray into the devine scale of 1/72! Approve [^]  ...and yes, I'll gladly accept the blame for that. Big Smile [:D]

Guy, spectacular work on the seaplane.  That is indeed going to be a stunner when it's done.  Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

Sean, glad to see the Cant back on the bench.  I see you got it mounted on the stand too Approve [^]  She is looking really sharp with all the decals.  Can't wait to see more.  Are you back on the bike trails yet?  I've been giving the new mount a good ride lately which partially explains my absenteeism.

mucker -  unique is a good way of putting it. I chose this one over the conventional tail version as you "cant" really tell the difference if it is invertered or right side up. Laugh [(-D] Getting the prop rotation on the correct cowls almost made me half crazy.

Guy -  I am surprised you have not completed that beauty of a flying boat. What a stunner for sure. Approve [^]

SC- I keep hearing about those Super "Tamagawa" kits....  I will have to build one someday and see what all the fuss is about.. I have aquired a few here recently. Although every time I look at one I am afraid of a uprising from the  Airfix , Matchbox, Italaerei, Revell - ect kits..Black Eye [B)] Laugh [(-D]

I do hope I get mine finished before Guy starts his  Blindfold [X-)]

Frank - I have been at the point to where I stall on a build on this kit. "Cant" you tell as long as it took me to start the decal process...That last item stuff - I think I put off finishing them as I get use to seeing them on the bench.

Dave - I figured I had better get this one finished up before you showed up at my front door now that the trails have melted out.Pirate [oX)]  I thought it would be a safe idea using the stand as the landing gear was real fiddly might be kinda fragile .

I have been out a few times mainly just short test rides on everyone elses bikes after the Spring tuneups.  Just enough to realize how out of shape I got over the winter. I like your Bike guy - Thumbs Up [tup]

Aaron - Glad to see you still have some time to post. I have been attempting to finish up my "Bench Pets" so I can start on a Sea Gladiator sometime soon.  Wink [;)]

Oh he's here then, Aaron, that is btw. Where the heck have you been young man. Bondo's been here so you 'CANT' use that excuse!! I feel some homework is in order.mmmm....

My floater is still around. Ive surpressed the urge to smash it into a zillion pieces. Im in the process of rigging the beast. Id done a fair bit, came back after something to eat and thought one of the wires looked a little slack. Out with the lighter (Not the best way but, hey ho) holding at a distance, up it tightened....does it need a little more? Maybe......Zoinks, about 5 wires melted LOL. I wasnt amused i can tell you. Dave got some stick, ill tell ya.

Almost recovered my misshap, and you never know, it may be finished shortly.

So several years back I bought an  Aircraft book collection from an estate and most of them have been in boxes since purchasing them. As I was shelving them into a Newly built bookcase I stumbled upon one on the Ju 87 Stukathat caught my interest to thumb through.  Seems that the Italians used  them in the Western Desert - The 209 a Squadriglia around 1941

Photobucket Does the roundell on the wing seem to be facing wrong ?

Anybody have a 1/48 Revell Pro Modeler Ju 87 Stuka they dont need ? Whistling [:-^]

Yes you are correct Sean The roundel under the left wing is painted incorrectly. The forked part of each of the three lines are suppose to point fowards and to the outside of the wing. The fork part on the bottom of the wing on that Ju 87 is pointing backwards! probally had something to do with painting them on the plane in the field and working upsidedown. I have seen many decal sheets sone incorrectly. They give you two of the same decal for the bottom and top of each wing. In realitly each wing roundel is different.

Dave will post some pics tonight. Love the little guy petaling his butt off on the bike!

Guy sorry to hear about this setback. I do'nt think rigging anything will ever be easy. From what I have read they say to light a match let it burn a bit then put it out then hold it under the rigging to tighten them up. I never tried it but it sounds like a good idea.

Guy, the Bondo method, which works in 1/72, is that about 3-4 years ago I went to the paint store and spent $ 15 on the highest quality house painting brush I could find, with nylon bristles. They're all about 4" long, and come in black and clear, and there are millions of them. I've nibbled off maybe 10% of them over time. Then I cut to length, glue in and as we say,

"Mamma, aiuto". The Gabbi is second in line behind this big ugly PBY that got it's red lowers and wingtips sprayed on last evening, now I have to go back and touch up the white where the red ran in the recessed panel lines. Black accents, decals, final assembly, I'll be done! And then on to the very fine CANT Z 501. I mentioned that I recently picked up a SM 79 torpedo bomber with a big fat example of same under it. She's already contributed three mg's to the Gabbi, waist guns that won't be missed on the Sparviero since it's sitting on the ground anygohows- they would be stowed. That one'll be boring, easy scheme of green over black.

Yup, that Stuka looks messed up. Kind of reminds me of the radio host who was seeking publicity and claimed skinheads beat him up in an airport restroom and drew a Swast. on his forehead- only problem was that it was a mirror image! Those lines are Fasces, basically a bundle of rods with axes, and the axehead should face the wing tip and hook "up" towards the nose in all cases. The astute student will find similar symbols in our architecture, particularly in court houses. It goes back to Rome, and the axe confers the power of capital punishment. Indeed, it appeared on the reverse of the US Mercury dime from 1916-1945.

Bondo - Thanks for the the history lesson on what those things are. The colorful one that goes up forward on the fuse - In 1/72 scale all this time I thought it was a "Totem Pole" smoking a pipe..Sigh [sigh]

Guy and everyone else for that matter, the best tool I've found for tightening up rigging is a soldering iron.  Provides a nice constant heat source that is not too hot and you can move it up and down the line till it tightens up.  Works like a charm.  If you had only asked before flicking your lighter Guy I could have saved you lots of work.  Wink [;)]

I also used one to shape the exhaust pipes on a radial engine to meet up with the ports in the same manner..

Oh so now your all coming out with the big ideas. Im still blaming Dave. A soldering iron sounds like a good idea if you can lower the power of the thing. Mine is one of those thats full power or nothing.

Bondo, im still stumped on the Mamma Aiouto.

Guy -  I like this little 30 watt job for messing with plastic models and such. Sure beats heating a nail with a candle.

Photobucket

I spent most of the morning masking the canopy for the Cant.Z  - 38 Pains of glass there was. Got it sprayed and hoping for the best , still to fresh to remove the mask's.

Also got the other side decal'ed , sealed and the landing gear doors on...

The Cant Z 501 was obsolete as a patrol bomber by 1940, and found it's true value in air search and rescue. Like all such craft in all the airforces/ navies of the world it became an object of adoration for the combat aircrews it rescued. An example would be the PBY attached to my Father-in-Law's squadron, the "bastard angel of mercy".

The Gabbiano was dubbed with the nickname "Mamma, aiuto", which means "Mother, HELP!!".

As promosed for Dave some progress pics. Not a whole lot to look at but the bottom is sprayed light blue and masked of and then I spend a good hour masking the nose ID band and underside so I could start the top coat. I layed down the sand for the undercoat. If you look real carefull you can see my effort at preshading. Most of this is going to be covered up with a pretty heavy random overspray over dark green and brown with only sploches of the sand color left exposed. My hand is already tired from airbrushing and masking so I'll save that for tomorrow night until then Ciao!

Bennissimo, Regazi! Preshading looks great, kind of like it should- the underlying structure. Like that Cant. Summit, Krystal Klear is tintable, try stirring in acrylic and it'll do any canvas you want.

Edit:whoops, my bad! Should have had my glasses on, and maybe one less Margarita for Cinco de Mayo!

Ciao!!!

Well I am already at the top of the stairs because I live on the third floor of the house! Alright everyone who did not pay proper homage to our fearless  (unless spiders are involved) leader and a top notch football sportsman Sir Guy of Bournesmouth line up! You punishment shall now commence!

Hows that Guy? Do you think they understand now the error of their ways now?

Well of to the bench. Time to start spraying my complex camo on the 202. I'm either going to be real happy tonight or real upset depending on how well I am able to airbrush the upper camo.

Congrats on your recognition and published work Guy!  Very sensational and well deserved! Bow [bow] Soulcrusher you shoulda seen this spider that was out on my porch!  Humongous beast about half the size of my hand!  It made an awful sound when I stepped on him!  Was gonna let it live but it made a B-line for my door so had to think of being asleep and having that fellow sharing the bed! Shock [:O]Dead [xx(] Not exactly what I want to have hanging round in the dark!  Next one I see I'll take a picture for you!

Thats enough Macneal. I just cant do Spiders. I litterally have to run away, even with the smaller kind. I just dont know what it is. I think its learnt behaviour from my older brother who equally hates spiders. Im wierd though, i cant kill em.

Good work SC, i hope you gave all those 'Naysayers' a good thwacking.

We are all thinking of you with the camo and really looking forward to seeing what you can do with it.

Ive got today off!! For the 1st time in a very long time so i might even be able to get the floater finished. Thx for the great tip on using a soldering iron on the rigging. It worked perfectly. I just have a couple of little bits to button up and shes done. The only prob is SWMBO has about a thousand silly little jobs for me to do. DOH!!

More soon.

Ah Hope you get it finished Guy!  You and Soulcrusher kinda remind me of Ronald Weasley in Hary Potter when he and his fear of spiders are in the den of giant arachnids! Shock [:O]Laugh [(-D] We got those nasty types down here that can mess ya up!  Brown Recluse and Black Widows.  Once I was securing a hand brake on two joined engines in the dark by a bunch of cars filled with old rotten ties and ran into a Black Widow web. The thing promply ran down my shirt and bit me 3 times!  Made me pretty dern sick not to mention the scene of me dancing around in the dark smacking me own chest like a gorilla.

But to really conquer your fear you need to join the Army and go sleep with these fellows called camel spiders... aren't they cute?

Don't worry they are ugly but not very big... er that is if you are a dinosaur!
