Deeve Tamiya XF-61 is a perfect match for the dark green used by the Reggia Aeronautica. I just finished my Re 2000 for this GB and that is what I used for the topside green. Its is a very dark green. For the sand I like to use the MM acrylic color RLM 79 sandgelb. If you do not have that in your invertory you can always use the Tamiya XF-60 and just add a little bit of Tamiya XF-10 brown to it and darken it up just a bit.

Frank that Guy is a handsome fellow is'nt he? He's ace for sure! I whish I had his man cave with all of those cool airplane pics though. I'll have to post pics of my workbench later. It is no where near as cool as Guy's. Actually it is pretty boring.

Guy- Thanks for thinking of us!  Sure would be embarrasing if all of the ladies showed up on your doorstep chanting:

I LOVE GUY, HE'S SO COOL.  HE'S AN ACE AND ALL.  I WANT TO HAVE HIS SON.

Deeve, hopefully some more good advice will come your way. Im not sure of the italian anmes for the paints but i use Tamiyas acrylics. For eg, for the yellow base of my SM 79, CR. 42 and Veltro i used a lightened version on Dessert yellow and for the olive green, i used 'Olive green'. it looks right to me. LOL. I also use RAF interior for the grey-green italian interior colour. I think you could be more exact if you wanted but with colour shift and in the field fading im sure that would be ok. I go with the rule if it looks right, it is right.

Guy.

If it looks right , it is right. Haha. Not in my case. I build something using some paints that I had on my shelf. Looked over them till I found ones I thought looked close.

Once it was done. It looked goofy. You see, I am a bit colour blind. :)

Soulcrusher.

Thanks for the recommendations. I will look into my paints when I get home (lunch at work right now) and see what I have. The paint scheme I am doing is just the standard box paint suggestions. Sand Yellow base with dark green mottling with a grey underside.

I have some RAF interior green in acrylic (I want to do this whole kit in acrylics and I almost strictly use enamels). I think the XF61 should be good for the green, but I am not sure about the sand yellow. I may have to do some research :) I have all these colours in enamels though.

Thanks

I used the MM Italian colors on the Cant Z , and I matched up German colors for the Chi 202 . They both turned out good and the colors are very close to each other by my eyes.

Dave - I cleaned shop the other day. Spic and span Thumbs Up [tup] Never did find what I was looking for though Sigh [sigh] Laugh [(-D]

Deeve, SC gave some good colour recommendations but you should know that Model Master Enamels do have the Italian colours in their lineup should you be so inclined.

Ah... he fixed it.  Good one mate and yes, I am glad you were dressed this time too.  Nice collection of models you got there.  The BV138 was noticably absent as Sean pointed out.  I really liked that big Ju 52.  Nice to see someone else's shop and Sean thought his was too messy to show?  Laugh [(-D]

Sign - Ditto [#ditto]

My Daughter heard me laughing and came in to watch. When I saw the reflection on the glass I was "Man I hope Guy has pants on"

Guy - What a Great setup. I like the builds up on the top shelf. I had my hands on one of those Dorniers yesterday while I was in my "Tomb of Stash " looking for kits to tease Aaron with. Wink [;)]

How come you didnt let your lady make a vid appearence ?  We all have met "Wingus & Dingus"  I did not see the BV-138 must still be under your pillow ?

I like your stash, more of a realistic builders pile. I want to build all the kits I have but I will need to live to at least 260 years old.

Thanks for sharing the "Magic Shop"

I have a few questions for the Regia Aeronautica experts out there.

What are good alternate colours for Verde Mimetico 3 and Gaillo Mimetico 3. I was planning to use Tamiya XF-61 for the Verde Mimetico 3 colour and Tamiya XF-4 for the Gaillo Mimetico 3

Any thoughts on that? recommendations etc?

Another thing. What is the colour used on the landing gears and on the wheel wells of RA aircraft? is there a common colour like RLM had or no? If anyone can tell me what the early war colours for the landing gears and wheel wells would be for a fiat G50, that would be awesome.

I have done most of the assembly on my Airfix G50bis. Just doing some filling, then I will be painting.

Thanks

deeve I have yet to find a paint manufactor that makes the specific Reggia Aeronautica colors so I did a little research and this is what I have been using. For most interiors British interior green is a good match for the cockpit. I also use it for the wheel wells and visible areas inside the cowls. I find that us Neautral Gray top be a good match for the underside grigio azzurro chiaro. verde oliva scuro is a very dark green. Just a bit lighter than german blackgreen. german sandgelb is also a good match for the light sand camo. Which camo pattern are you doing? If you send me a pic I can probally give you better color suggestions as to what avalible colors will do.

Not a lot of colorful progress makes for a dull update, but it's progress none the less. I've been working on seams and fitting of the fuselage componets. I started work fitting the nose and using pics of the plane on the net, I decided to try to open up areas of the nose that CA had molded shut.

The scalloped areas of the fuselage behind the cowl all had openings in front of them, I assume to act as outlets for the radiator. In my attempt to thin the area I got a little to zealous with the Dremel and had to repair the area.

Wasn't sure I screwed it up properly on the first try so I had to try again, just to make sure.

That's about it. Still plugging away.

Hmmm... Guy doesn't put the page number on my finished build and Aaron gets the brand name of the model wrong on page one.  Mutt and Jeff I tells ya!  What a pair.

And Aaron thinks I'm going to give him my address after that prank he pulled on Guy.  What does he take me for?  Who... me... scared? you betcha, but I'm only scared of Dee.  I bet it was her who kicked Aaron in the chops! Big Smile [:D]
