Well freaking h*ll. I Corresponded with Summit about markings for the Stranraer and it's a strange thing. All of the images I can find of 240 Squadron with the code BN-L, which the Matchie kit provides for the Stranraer; are of a Sanro Lincoln. Go figure and even though we all know that your city in Blighty was renamed from Lincum to Lincoln after our President; I way doubt there was also a Stranraer that way too.

Pause for tea. Nice rear on that WAAF going by on the Raleigh.

Cor; Keith Parks is a drinker. Invited me for tea on Friday and bring the gin and dink with his missis. Did I say gin? Gotta be the official imbibement of this GB; Daywalker (Group Captain Frank), let's host the first of many at tea this Friday. What, you're gonna cycle over to Tango's rub up? I'll follow of course, but gotta breakin the new Pilot Officers.

Good looking headlights on the driver of the Austin pulling up to take me away.

Cheers, men.

Well, an ill-advised purchase of a dusty old box with a vacform Vickers Vanguard was returned to it's original airfield, and Group Captain Bondomandrake flew home in a shiny new Handley Page Heyford! Cripes, the view from up here is great! Just need to wrap the old scarf a little tight, don't forget the gogglie things and keep the teacup below the windscreen-lot's of Buntings over Worthy Down this time of winter!

Cheerio and carry on!

Now chaps, order up a round of ales on me, and someone drop by a keg of NIVO! Oh, I won't pretend to have known what that meant 30 minutes ago. The internet is a wonderful thing!

Just so guys don't think that I am just drinking brats at eat beer, or something like that. Here is another pic of the Beau. Slowly but Shirley I started with some of the painting and the glueing. Besides the parts in the pic, I dipped the canopies in future and painted the engines and struts. As far as the decals are concerned, I might have to look for some AM since the protective sheet kinda stuck to the decals and I don't know if it will come off in the water. Conclusion so far, considering its age the kit is not to bad. The detail is a little rough but the fit appears good and no flash or pin marks yet. Even got trench-like panel lines. I try to make it OOB.

Ah, the dear old Hayford. Strange kite really, In the cockpit you can get altitude sickness whilst it's sitting on the ground.

The Beau is making good progress old chap. Not much more than a lick o paint and she'll be clobbering the bally hum in no time.

Tally ho.

Righto chaps.

Sorry I've been a bit quiet on here for a week or so. I've had a time of it with college work and got a nit snowed under. With luck by tomorrow I will be on top of the situaion again and will be able to spare some time for the model bench. Looking forward to getting my pictures up here some time soon too.

Tally Ho.

Just in case I missed them and I probably did, what were the start and end dates of this build?

Yup. those start and finish dates are spot on.

Been working on the Lancaster today. The wings are together and the fuselage interior is painted and I have assembled the nose and blanked the openings off with plastic card and have used car body filler to make the basic shape to use it as a mold for the new nose. Piccies to follow.

Bestest.

AH. What a Beautiful kite. Just to prove I have been chucking glue at plastic on this here are the first two progress pics. First is the obligatory sprue shot. second shows the fuselage taped together and the male mold for the new nose in position to check for fit.

All the best chaps.

I remember doing the Wespe many years back. Does the Revell boxing still come with the parched earth and the palm tree ?

I've often thought that there is an opportunity for Revell to re-release these AFV kits with link and length tracks.

Due to the abnormally long time for my photoetch to be delivered, I've started removing the parts from the sprues on my Meteor. Having said that it's probably sitting at home waiting for me today.

Cheers

Started my Lanc.  Got the nose halves glued to the fuselage halves, the wings, nacelles and horizontal stabilizers glued together as well.  Since the kit decals are buggered, and I've got to call the nice folks at Squadron for some new ones (found some that had a shark mouth on each nacelle) trying to decide if I want to do a resin cockpit for it as well.  Never done a resin pit before, might be interesting.

Greg,

What are you doing to the nose of yours?

Hello Gents,

the reboxed "Wespe" ist just the same like from Matchbox. All parts include. Only the sprues now in one colour. Matchbox did it in two different colours.

Revell does the same mistake like Matchbox and offers a version of "Afrika Korps", but this vehicle never saw the african campaign. First it was used in the "Battle of Kursk" summer 1943. This time the african campaign was finished.

I will do it in a white-wash sheme, winter 1943/44 eastern front.

Best regards

I couldn't resist. I went out at lunchtime today and bought the SAMI publication on the Meteor. It is actually quite glowing in it's praise of the Matchbox Meteor. I think the book cost me six times what the kit did. Still no Airwaves set, though, I'm really not sure what has happened to it.

Cheers

The SAMI book is a good one. For fans of British classic jets there's a modelers datafile type book coming out very soon on the Hunter (With some of guess who's photo's in it Big Smile [:D] ) written by my good friend Paul Bradley who some of you may know. I have as I have said a Matchbox Meteor in my stash and will probably be building it as a target tug variant. It's a shame I started my Matchbox Hunter a few weeks before having the idea for this G/B. Well folks. looking forward to getting to see more pics of your models (hint hint Wink [;)] )

Well chaps. carry on. wizard prang an all that.

Tally ho.

Great Gregers, that Hunter book just made #1 on my shopping list, although it will probably take a few months to make it out here. I seriously considered acquiring a two seater Hunter for this GB.

As far as the Meteor goes, I just can't seem to settle on a scheme. If I do the RAAF one, then this is the scheme it will have

http://www.hsgalleries.com/gallery04/meteornf11aw_1.htm

Otherwise it will be some variation of ocean grey and dark green I guess.

Cheers

If you're after a different scheme for your meatbox nightfighter there's a few NF13's on the Isradecal sheet.

http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Rev3/2101-2200/rev2174-IsraDecal-IAF-63/00.shtm

  • Israeli Meteor NF-13 #52 in 1956

  • Egyptian Meteor NF-13 #1432 in 1955

  • Syrian Meteor NF-13 #1476 in 1957

  •  Hope this helps.

    All the best.

Thanks Gregers. That is definitely an interesting sheet, but the price in Aussie dollars works out to over $40 at the moment, plus postage. I'll take a rain check until the Aussie dollar picks up a bit. I think I'll call this one Belgian.

STILL, no photoetch in the mail, so the kit parts have all been removed from the sprue, except for the very small bits. It is officially on hold now until the gear arrives.

How is everyone else doing ?

There are a few Matchbox kits that no one else has covered, that I know of, except maybe for Revell re-issues, or the Matchbox kits are still the best on the market.

I'll try to name a few, any others ?

    Supermarine Stranraer

    HP Heyford

    Fairey Seafox

    Armstrong Whitworth Siskin

    Hawker Fury

    Dassault Mystere IV

    Hawker Hunter T7

    EE Lightning T55

    Cheers

Ah in fact I'm in with these two, at least the flying boat and the Heyford if time permits. This GB is fourth in the pattern however so it may be a litlle while. They both look pretty fast, tho. One thing is I'm trying to find better Lewis guns- hints appreciated.

I see you mentioned Matchbox sold a Mystere IV. Any chance they ever did a Vautour? My holy grail of 1/72 kits to find.

    Hi Bondoman,

I don't think Matchbox ever did a Vautour. I agree it would be great to see one in 1/72.

For 1/72 Lewis guns th only one's I know of aftermarket are by Aeroclub. Here's a linky but I'm not sure what mk of gun the Heyford and Stranrear had. http://aeroclub-models.com/s.html?qname=lewis+gun&r=0

I have seen a 1/72 Vautour on show tables. don't know the manufacturer or if it was injection or vac though but I'd have thought Heller would have done one if anyone has. I know they did one in 1/100th though.

    All the best.

Thanks, Greg. Hey I finished the Heavy Lifter/ Cold War GB last night, so Stranraer moves up to position 3 in the pattern, which means I'm ready to start collecting any AM bits- in this case decals, paint and guns and cut sprue! Woohoo!

Three Lewis MK3 guns- thanks for the linkie, I'll check that out. The MB ones are poop, and they're REAL obvious on the model, kind of more so on the Heyford. There was a great looking little set in PE from Toms Model Works, but with his recent death, mayby no longer available.

I also need three Lewis guns later for the Heyford, don't know the mark.

As for the Vautour in smallscale, I only know of the 1/100 one from Heller. The Hi-Tech kit is currently reboxed by Fonderie Miniature, and it might be "the worst kit ever made" according to two reviews I found. I have an Isradecal set in 1/72 for the Vautour that lists Hi-Tech as the model source, so maybe that's what those are. Do me the favor of asking next time you see one, please.

Well, work on the Voodoo is progressing slowly. I still haven't got around to figuring out the photobucket thing but I have taken a few pics, I will get to it soon. Lots of filling and sanding but it does keep me entertained, can't wait to fire up the Paasche and get some paint on it. Seems my other half had a few plans for my 2 weeks off so I didn't get near as much time at the bench as I wanted to but that's the way it goes somedays, lol. Well, Cheerio for now chaps. Bullet out.

That Voodoo kit seems to have a curse for me. I have started three and never finished one. Usually through ham fistedness on my behalf though. I'll have to get one and do it. Sounds like you're mking good progress. I have stalled on the Lancaster untill I can get some more clear plastic sheet. I ran out during my attempts to crashmold a new one. Looks like I'll be breaking out the vacformer. In the meantime I'll dig out a smaller Matchbox. Probably the FW190.

All the best chaps. Carry on.

The Vickers has lost its place in line for the Bench. I have a Heinkel HE 115 that pushed it aside. Soon as I get that huge P-40 out of the way this will be Next Thumbs Up [tup]
