Sadly Sean, I don't think you'll find an Eduard pre-cut mask for this one.  Good Luck with that. Lol

Little update on my Beau. Hull together, wings and tail attached, gaps filled and sanded, engines painted and washed, Pilots almost done painting. Ailerons movable. Canopy masked.

I'd forgotton about the HE 115. Nice choice. I've never actually seen one built, so this should be good.

What color scheme options do they give you ?

It would make a nice display, moored next to an Arado 196 don't you think ?

Cheers

I just picked up the RoG rebox of this last weekend. I got an Arado Ar-196 too, but as far as I can find it is not an old matchbox kit which is a shame, it looks like a nice warm up to the He-115.

I built the He-115 when I was in high school (or there abouts). I remember it being a rather painless build, although my standards are lower than some, since I don't think simple kits = bad kits. Smile [:)]

Yep that HE115 is a neat kit and goes together without any problems. I remember the one I built as a kid, sliding it down the street in the snow during winter, This was my usual trick with floatplanes and seaplanes and the 115 was the best for it and it stood up to that punishment pretty well to be honest. The windows took me ages to do freehand (those were the days when dad's masking tape raided from his garage was used only for holding bits together whilst the glue dried) I have two of these in the stash. maybe I'll dig one out some time soon.

All the best.

Made a little progress on the Lanc today.  Got the port outboard nacelle sanded and attached.  Not too big of a problem, a little sanding and got a fairly good fit.  But what's up the separate pieces that fair the nacelles into the upper wing surface?Question [?]Thumbs Down [tdn]  Perhaps they allow for different nacelles for different versions to be attached?Confused [%-)]

I think they were trying for a smooth join between the wing. didn't work somehow. easiest way to fix these I have found is to fix them to the wing before the necelle and before it's fully dry then attach the necelle so you can still move it a little. Little work done on mine. I'll get updated pics up soon. I've decided to dig out another Matchbox kit to play with too.

All the best.

Pray what would that be, old chap? The Lysander, a Wellington. Sporting, I say! Or a Chinook HC Mk. 1 would be the old girl's knickers at the knees! Cheerio, and the Stranraer comes out tomorrow night after the corned beef. Fish and chips it was at the mess (funny that, never thought of the word root(?)) this evening, Lent and all that you know!

HMM, tempted as I am to build the Kiowa I am looking at maybe building a bally jerry kite. would be top hole to have a Heinkel as a squadron hack. Oh, introducing the squadron by the way, it's 666sqn, known as the 'Kings own suicidal conscripts'.

Tally ho.

Well, "ARRGH"; in RAF talk might best be translated as "Bloody Oath". Hope that's helpful. We're still working on the LaRousse Pirate/Lord Lyndsie dixie! Hey, that's a rhyme, let's dance a reel!

Right chaps.

On the Lancaster, There has been good progress and pictures will be posted as soon as they are passed by the airfield censor. can't let the enemy know our secrets now can we old bean. Also with the Lancaster the canopy masking is a complete pain in the hows your father. Job done though. camouflage added and other bits painted. as I have said pictures to follow.
The Kiowa will be built very soon, I am doing a crossover with this one for a flingy wingy thingy group build on another forum.
Thats all chaps. wizard prang and all that.

Tally ho.

Hi Chaps.

Sorry about the absenteeism. Been down at the Airfix plant doing some work for them, kind of hush hush y'know. can't spill the beans on it old chap and all that. I have some sorting out to do in the model room then it's back to business. I am at Model club tonight and will report back as soon as I return. Lanc progress is as suspected slow and the Kiowa is on the bench ready to be opened. There's a nice fat JU87 sitting in the stash that may get some attention.

Tally ho.

Well, work is progressing on the Voodoo, and progressing and progre....you get the point. Can't quite put my finger on the exact problem but this is turning into the worst experience I've ever had building a freakin' model. Could be I've been paying too much attention to building 1/35 armour, or maybe I'm just not as good at this as I like to think I am (and I don't reckon I'm even close to what I've seen in FSM), or maybe this kit was the lemon in the batch, or it may have been stored in less than ideal conditions somewhere in it's history (says 1980 on the box). I'm encountering massive gaps everywhere, wing roots being absolutely horrid, resulting in having to fill and sand away alot of the fine (but unfortunatly raised) detail. It's gotten to the point now where I'm going to close the canopy and fold up the gear and just hang it from the ceiling when it's done. That way I won't have to deal with trying to make the gear bays look presentable, and anyone looking at it will have to be further away so they might not see all of the blemishs. Just gonna relax and slap the rest together then play with the airbrush. Then I'm gonna build another tank.

Prang the bloody Voodoo, prang her good and strong, we'll have to prang the Voodoos now, the Vampires are all gone.

Sorry about the rant there guys but I was in a pretty deep funk for a bit. Seemed everytime I touched that thing I was just looking for the flaws, to the point that I couldn't see the good in it. So I sat down with my granddaughter and let her pick a kit from the shelf (she chose an old Airfix kit of a Me-109) and we built & painted it in one day. Now, I think it looks like crap with purple landing gear and yellow & blue camo but she thinks it looks "Way cool Grampa!". And that makes it look perfect. So with her help I picked myself up and finished assembling the Voodoo and then shot a coat of primer. I won't get any bench time now 'till next weekend, but I hope to have her ready for decals soon. It took a glimpse at things through the eyes of a 5 yr. old to bring me 'round but I reckon I'll be ok now.

And for my punishment for blaming the kit, I will build another wingy-thingy next. Any suggestions?

It's not the kit, it's not the glue or the paint, it's not even the goverment. It's just life.

Hiya Folks. I'm getting a little bench time, well coffee table time because my model room is being used for storage :-( tinkering with three old Airfix kits and next is more work on the Lancaster. The undercart and turrets are next and I'm about to look through my decal stash for the stars and letters.

That above is part of why I like Matchbox and early Airfix kits. simple, easy, good AMS busting kits. I've got quite a few as you can gather from the list I posted. I'm going to get the Lancaster finished soon but start on the Kiawa tonight, I will get some more pictures taken and posted soon now my computer issues are sorted. Keep those build reports coming guys.

All the best.

Well, the Airwaves photoetch for my Meteor finally got here. I'm not sure whether to start now, or order that decal sheet from Hannants with the 'raspberry ripple' scheme for a Meteor NF.

Think I'll just build it.

Cheers

Glad to hear your photo etch got there. Persoanlly I'd wait for the decals for the ripple one. I've seen the sheet and it looks great. Sorry I have been scarce for some time. my own PC is totally fubar'd now and I am getting on anyone's pc I can until I get a replacement. the PC's at college are monitored and I really don't want to risk being barred from them as they are too useful and the only ones I can access regularly. and studying Freud, Jung, Rogers, Maslow etc is no fun from text books. ( Anyone who studies psychodynamic analysis needs their head testing! Whistling [:-^] )
Slow progress with the Lanc and the OH58 has been started - piccies to follow soon-ish when I get a rreplacement PC.

Alrighty then lads, hope this works and I manage to actually post some pics via photobucket. I will be the 1st to admit that I could qualify as the poster child for computer illiteracy but here goes.

These shots show little of the actual assembly, but they should show off the worst problem areas from filling to priming. The 3 coats of primer really helped alot but originaly that was to be the final color.

Now I'm thinking of doing something really wild with it. Can't remember what I was drinking (or smoking?) when I came up with this but all my buddies think it will be great so I'm gonna do it. IT being--turn it into an anti-war hippie plane. I'm thinking a bright yellow base color and then festoon the aircraft with hippie type stuff like flower power slogans, a rainbow, a marijuana leaf in a circle for insignia, peace signs and such and for a finale maybe a couple of fat doobies under the wings instead of missiles. Basically convert it from a McDonnell CF(Canadian Fighter) 101 Voodoo into a McDonalds CF(Cannabis Flyer)101 WooHoo   (I had fun with that name, still makes me laugh)

Greg, would this be allowed or should I stick to making it represent an actual aircraft? Whadda ya think guys? Feedback would be greatly appreciated here.

Low and Behold. I managed to actually finish an airplane. The second that is. The first one was a Tamiya 1/48 Spitfire Vb. Anyway here is my Matchbox 1/72 Beaufighter straight out of the box and nothing added. She is totally pure(Maybe I should have painted her in white). Nothing to say except that I went straight by the instruction supplied with the kit and I even used the decals. The pilots are inside, the ailerons are movable and the main wheels actually turn (play effect). Of what memories are coming back when I flew a torpedo attack at my friends ship and dropped rocks on them instead. What a careless time it was indeed. The actual survival time of a finished models in those years was maybe a summer if that long, like the real comabat . Anyway, here she is the GOOD OL' BEAU.

Leopardman nicely done. First the torp/ rockets combo seems wrong, a little research yielded this site.

http://www2.bc.edu/~emerypa/254/memoirs.html

My father in law was a crew chief for USAAF Beaus and owned two, he loved that a/c even more than his two p-61s.

Great build I think. The Stranraer has moved up to third in the circuit behind the Cant Z and the F-82. My lewis gun order to Toms Model Works was canceled, boo hoo.
