BTW, bondoman, I checked out a few of your builds and I really like the subjects you model. Looking forward to seeing your progress here.

Klaus, very nice... hope mine comes out that good! Where do you put something that big?

No, but sometimes I kinda feel like that pic, so I have a soft spot for it. Thanks for the props, and Klaus that is very imposing.

actually, guys, the silver was just a ground coat, which I have built up subsequent layersof weathering onto, but to answer your question, It is actually just a duplicolor rattle can silver...nothing special.  About the figures...overall, they arent bad (but I have never used AM figures before, so I have nothing to compare to), and as for price, yes they were a bit expensive, although when paypal calculated the conversion it wasnt that bad.  Until I got an email saying that I didnt pay enough...the paypal conversionhad failed me!

Keep us updated on that Huey, Justin. I love to see progress pics! Thumbs Up [tup]

I was curious about the figures because I wanted to do something with a couple of pilots hanging around the Hind. I noticed that they had a modern Russian helicopter pilot set. The price seemed to convert to about $30 U.S. with shipping... twice what I paid for the kit itself. If they were really nice I might consider it but I'm no expert on figures and have nothing to base the quality on.

Anyone have a lead on Russian helicopter pilots in 1/48? Maybe even posable figures that just look the part? I'm not coming up with anything other than the Propaganda Kompany boys.

Got an initaial test coat of primer on the main body of the Hind. I have a love-hate relationship with a primer coat.

A: I love it because it shows the flaws that need correcting.

B: I hate it because it shows the flaws that need correcting.

Still alot of work to do! Disapprove [V] I have never in my life used a file (yes file) to even out and sand 75% of a model before! Horrible! Angry [:(!] But I will whip it good!

*EDIT*

Sorry for the extremely large pictures... it wasn't supposed to happen that way! Blush [:I]

Whoa! Got a little crazy with that last post! Blush [:I]

Little bit of an update to keep us hovering around here. I've been sanding all that beautiful primer to fix the many imperfections I missed. Still fixing and still more to do. I managed to get the wings together... if i thought the fusekage fit bad i was wrong. The wings were worse! Gaps, gaps, gaps large enough to put change in! Angry [:(!] I managed to get one wing almost finished and scribed. I also got the cool little pods underneath the nose on. Once again, I will have a lot of filling and sanding to do on them!

Bad pick for a first time helo but I think she's gonna turn out nicely in the end. (just need to keep telling myself that)

We might as well rename this thread as "Jermy's Hind Build", since no one else (including me or better me "in primis" Disapprove [V]) is posting pictures!

Anyhow I think your helicopter is proceeding very well.
Reagarding the primer-love-hate: that's one of the things primers are for!

My ultimate goal is to throw on the first coat of primer and have everything be perfect! I know... pipe dream!

Now... get busy on my digi camo Cobra! Big Smile [:D]

Well I finally got a chance to get building, I should have some pics up in a day or so. Since this will be the 4th time I built an H-19 (my first with pontoons though) I expect it to move fairly quickly. I'm already looking at other helicopters in my stash for a possible followup.

I would love to pick up an H-19... especially with floats! Very cool! I see one every now and then pop up on Ebay but I always miss out.

Can't wait to see how you're doing with yours! Thumbs Up [tup]

Italeri has the H-19 available now, boxed as an HO4S-3 (the US Navy name for it) that kit does include decals for USMC, Royal Canadian Navy and French markings.

I built this one using the USMC option last year

The H-19 with floats from Italeri may have been re-issued lately because I got mine from a hobby shop earlier this year and they had just received it.

Aaronw - Nice work on that one! They look so silly with the fat body and skinny legs! Big Smile [:D]

Is that 1/48 ? That's the scale I'm looking for.

No, mine are all 1/72. The 1/48 is fairly hard to find, but it does seem to be cheaper than the 1/48 H-34 kits.

Great looking H-13 , Aaron. I whish they made those in 1/48 or even 1/35.

As you command!

Here's a little update:
I continued working on the office, using a mix of resin, PE and sheet-styrene. I also used, for the first time, Archer's Surface Detail rivets: these things are great! They go on easily and do the trick. They are the black spots on the IP.

Aaron,

Nice job on the H-19.

Klaus,

The pit is looking good so far.  Are the rivets 1/48 or 1/35 being from Archer?  Did you have to apply each one individually, or are they like a decal?

Jeremy,

The Hind is coming along beautifully.  I've got some pics of the winglets and the weapons hard points.  They'll be up in a day or two.  When I was out at the CWAM, the beat up Hind I found out has been donated to the local wing of the CAF.  They had the transmission and rotor head out where you could take pics of it.  Went to do so and found out I'd forgotten to replace the batteries in my camera.  Hopefully it'll still be out when I go back on the 5th for their fly-in.  Would take some pics of the Cobra pit they've got at the CWAM, but it's pretty beat up and a lot of the guages are missing.  Would really like to see them fire up the Hind, they say it shoots a fireball several feet out of its APU exhaust.

Thanks, lewbud!

The rivets have no scale, actually. I used the smallest (). They are printed, cast or whatever on clear film. This way you can cut the necessary amount and place them in strips.
As you say just like a decal.

A simple but efficient idea.

Buddy, thanks for the comment! The pictures will be much appreciated! I too would love to see that thing shoot some flames out... that would put a big smile on my face. Big Smile [:D]

Klaus, the cockpit looks fantastic! Those rivets really add a nice touch. Is the cloth texture on the seats something you added or did they come like that? Also are the seats resin too?

Thanks Jeremy!

The seats come with Cobra Company's resin NTS Update set and the fabric is "included".

Don't get used to this speed but I have another update: added some wiring to the instruments and the fire extinghusher mounts in one pit and the complete fire extinghusher in the other.

That's super cool, Avus. Hey, one thing that's helpful for us newbie types is if you all would remind us of what it is when you post. I really learn better when it's made obvious to me.

Thanks, and great models.

Thanks a lot bondoman!

If I got your request right, these are two 1/35 AH-1W Super Cobra NTS cockpits, built using resin parts (Cobra Company), photo etch (Eduard), styrene and metallic wire.

Excellent work, and thanks! I've ordered the Cobra set for the CH-46, and if I even can get near your results, I'll be happy!

Well... alot of hard work and not much to show for it but at least it's moving along somewhat.  Thumbs Up [tup]

Had some major gaps where the wings meet the fuselage. My trusty old file came in handy once again to shape the mating surfaces.

Not lookin too bad! Need to sand down those seams and a little more sanding left on the fuselage. Then I will tackle... the canopy! Dum dum duuuummmm!

Well, the Hind is certainly not the hindmost!  It looks good to me.

Jeremy,

Are you doing the version with the twin cannons running down the nose?

Unfortunately, no. In the end, I think she's actaully going to be a Mi-24V (different radome under the nose?) but I think that I'm going to use the Swatter missiles that the Mi-24D used just because they look way cooler. Big Smile [:D]

jmabx...the Hind is looking AAwesome!  Ever since I saw Red Dawn, I have loved that chopper.  I my just have to build one myself!

Now, for a few updates with pics on the Huey Hog...I havent worked on it in a week or so, but thus far, I have the cockpit assembled, and the motor and cockpit installed in the fuselage halves. I have a few seams to take care of, but I am almost ready for primer...

Now for the pics:
