Thanks for the kind comments guys.

Stu - Awesome camo work! The gear is probably OK too since their cars have the steering wheel on the 'other' side. Big Smile [:D]

Bob and Paul Great work on the p-40s

Stu great job on the camo. that pattern has always scared me.

I've started on the p-47 and there is a big fit issue on the bottom where the wings and fuse meet

Ok everyone, here is the latest update on the 'el-Cheap-O Testors Dauntless.

Last we left off I had just applied the two tone paint scheme. Since then I drilled out the gun barrels, drilled out the engine exhaust stacks, offset the color of some of the body panels (first attempt), gave it a coat of future and added the decals. Oh. and what model of mine wouldn't be complete without breaking the prop. I was test fitting it and it was snug. As I attempted to remove it it snapped at the shaft.

Next I will attempt to do some weathering

Till next time...

OooH Shiney!! Looks like youve almost finished them. Very nice stuff. As a newcomer to all things Corsair, why did they have a 'This way up' arrow on the tail? and a 'We go forward' arrow on the wing? Enquiring minds need to know these things....Wheres Frank?

Dirk-nice work on the Dauntless.  I'm finding that I enjoy working on the 'inexpensive' kits-I seem to not have any more problems or issues with them than I do with the higher dollar kits.  And I don't feel as bad when things do go wrong.

Dang there are alot of aircraft being built quickly in this build.

That is a nice looking Tony.. great mottling scheme.

I guess the Yanks are trying to catch up in this buildPropeller [8-]

I guess the weatherman got tired of me BCensored [censored]ing or the good Lord heard my prayers and the weather out at my airbrush station improved. I only had a few minutes to get a few pics of my lil Kikka.

I preshaded the entire aircraft to try to gain a bit of interest in the paint scheme. there should be very very little wear & tear on this aircraft because it flew for the first time a week before Japans surrender. I have a few touch ups to do. for some reason my tamiya tape pulled up some paint on one of the engine nacelles & a bit of overspray in a few very small areas. Also part of my learning curve has been with Gunza/Mr.Hobby laquers....1 part paint / 2 parts Mr. leveling thinner. If do not mix my paint this way I get these strange Spiderwebs from my airbrush. I have learned my lesson and always test spray in the box top.

Enough talking some pics.....

and the bottom...

Up next is Future and decals. I am having a hard time masking off the intracate birdcage canopies. it will take me a while to finish it.

Kannichiwa,

Jason

Looking good, Jason. I like the pre-shading on the panel lines...very effective. Regarding the spider webs, you also might want to turn the pressure down a bit on the compressor. Just a thought...you sound like you have a handle on it.

Keep those pics coming!

The Corsair is another Testors El-Cheap-O model. Its being built in the colors and markings of VF-84 the "Jolly Rogers" aboard the Carrier USS Bunker Hill  but that's a story for a different post.

Thanks everyone for the kind words

Those are in case any lads from the Liverpool Football Club try to fly one and need to know which end is up, and which end is forward. Laugh [(-D]

Seriously, those arrows are tactical markings.  Each Carrier had it's own- in this case, the arrows signify the USS Bunker Hill. Thumbs Up [tup]

Stu, stunning job on the Hien.

I've always loved the mottles green over NMF on those birds.Thumbs Up [tup]

Jason, loving the Kikka!

The pre-shade is essential on IJN otherwise they look too boring.

Probably why I build so few!

Ki-44 Progress

Seeing as I'd stripped all the paint off, I took the opportunity to put the landing light in on the Tojo.

Having managed that I promptly forgot to mask it off and put a layer of primer over the top!Banged Head [banghead]

Sorted out now though, and the gloss black is going on.

Well I had a little set back involving a couple of logs.

It is a good idea not to get your hands between logs, luckily everything is still attatched.

I did get some work done last night. It is starting to look like a plane.

Hey all.....here is the P-40 with it's Medium Green coat.  Based on limited research, although Dark Green/Dark Earth is called out for the early P-40's, there is thought that the DuPont Dark Green is closer to Medium Green.

Now here's were it gets fun...I have two choices from the 49th... Bob's Robin, with the sharkmouth.  This plane is solid Medium Green.

Second choice is for Andrew Reynolds Stardust/Oklahoma Kid, which is the standard (if there was one) Dark Earth/Dark Green as delivered to the British.

At this point, I'm undecided, so I'm asking for input from the group.  Just remember that, as I remind my son....this is not a democracy....but I will take into consideration the groups votes.  Final decision comes tomorrow.....

Aaronw - Yeowouch Taped Shut [XX] Glad to see your still in Good Spirits and posting..  I sure am looking forward to more progress on the Duck.

Bob - I vote for the Stardust / Oklahoma Kid as I think a P-40 in Camo is really Tops !

Still no progress from me on the Myrt as I have been Franticly finishing up a Mustang GT350-H for tomorrow night's local IPMS meeting  Whistling [:-^]

Nice work, Bob! Where's that seam go where the tail and fuelage meet? You handled that one nicely!

I'll go for Bob's Robin. I think it has a cool look to it with the sharksmouth. I did one several years ago and really like the looks of the markings.

Thanks Guy.  Even though I've looked at a lot of B&W pics on line, I still can't get a good feeling about 'exact' colors.  So until a color photo appears, I like it too!.

Charles-nice work on your P-40.  I'm assuming that it is the Hasegawa kit, which is a joy to build, plugs & all.

Bob - I'm torn too. I agree with Sean's comment about a P-40 in camo and I don't think we have another in the group. But the sharks mouth IS cool and you gotta love the flying skull!

Aaron - OWW! Hopefully it heals fast.

Sean- Would love to see a pic of the Mustang! You mention other builds and enquiring minds have to know! Wink [;)] That and the fact I like muscle cars as well!!

Mucker- That is a fine looking P-40 mate!! Thumbs Up [tup]

Jim- It's never too late! Sign - Welcome [#welcome] aboard!! Our CO darson will be around shortly to officially welcome you in. We will just need scale and subject for the front page. Most of all have fun!

Thanks for the input guys.  I'm going to sleep on it tonight and decide tomorrow...hopefully...

Sean-please do post pictures of the Shelby....I enjoy auto builds but I find there really isn't as much interest in keeping GB's alive in the Auto section.

Thanks Richie....it's amazing what you can do with some old Legos....actually, they are Megablocks, a cheap imitation of Legos.  They tend to not fit together nearly as well as Legos.

Bob - This was a pic I used for on the 1/32 Revell P-40. The book showed the original in B&W plus the color plate.

Camo with a shark mouth Thumbs Up [tup]

Markings

Sure I will post a few pics of the Mustang as soon as it finishes rolling down the assembly line - ( read as when all the sub~assemblys get put together  burning the Midnight Oil..
