Aww you guys are just too nice. I have to admit that this heavy weathering is addictive, soooo addictive. I dont have that big a stash and in it, i dont have anymore japanese planes. I do fancy doing a Corsair so i may have to take a trip to my LHS and see if they have one....or a Zero! Dont worry, ill still be here. This is a great subject and from what ive seen, some great builds being turned out. So sorry, but im hanging about.

Guy you are a weathering master!!! You've nailed the "heavily weathered" look without overdoing it...if that even makes sense. A better way to say it would be that it is exceptionally realistic.

Charles I really like it in the green! As far as the IJA green that would have been the rite green.

Hey ho, I think im finished. I say think, as this extreme weathering is an addictive thing. You never really know if youve done enough. I built the stand for the plane but plan on putting it into a dio if time and inclination push me that way. All the markings except the tail marking and the work no. thingy under it, were airbrushed. Anyhoo, here she is in all her flakey glory,

Thanks, Jason. This one was one of the two factors I considered. I wanted to do one a little different and I was also tired of all the NMF planes I rhave built recently. To be honest it's the wrong shade of green. I used IJA Green instead of a lighter shade. I think the flat cote will tone it down a bit, but if you were a perfectionist it would stick out like a sore thumb...

Jason, I was on Guam and never had any problems painting. Then again, I was using a single action badger 200 with canned air and shooting testors enamels. Hope you get some good painting weather soon, we want more pics!!!

Nice looking bird Charles. Looking forward to seeing it weathered. Mine has been decaled (Tail script only) and futured. Just a little bit of finishing up and joining the float to the plane is spose. Then its going to be done.

Darson, you do exist. I was beginning to believe you were a figment of someones warped imagination. BTW, am i allowed to play?

I feel your pain, Jason, look at it this way: you live on a TROPICAL island. Blue skies (when there are no storms), beaches, beautiful island girls...qute a contrast from where I live! I'm green with envy.

Frank: Keep your eyes peeled. I often see them on sale for around $15. Very affordable, straight-forward kit. If you still need one come October, let me know. I'll probably run across one at the local IPMS show.

 I am wanting to kill the local Air Force weatherman. Dmnit man give me a few days of good weather, no wind, no rain, low humidity!!! I have had this bird ready for color & spraying Future for decaling for a week.

The weathering should be pretty straight forward but I've read the landing gear is fiddly. I've already broken some of the struts while sanidng, so we'll see if they hold up to  the rigors of alignment. If not, we may have an in-flight Tsurugi!

Here is where I am on the ki-115. Decals are done. When the furure is dry I will weather the panel lines and then seal with a flat cote...most likely tomorrow.

Guy - Interesting technique with the Maskol. I wonder if other liquid masks would work too. The different viscosities might give different results.

I made a bit of progress last week. No new pictures but I got the scratch building done on the cockpit, prepped the wings, flaps, and landing gear doors, and filled a few ejection marks. I decided to take the easy road on the main gear bays and model the dust covers instead of bulkheads and ribs. There's just too many small parts nearby to break off.

I should be able to shoot the interior green, do some detail painting, and hopefully get the major assemblies closed up this week. I'll follow with some pictures then.

Silent modeller, Darson is the host. I am sort of what you could say XO and Darson is the CO.

Mo, I try and avoid using lacquer based paints as I spray in the house.

If I did decide to go the lacquer route, I'd probably give Alclad a try.

Bob, I used Tamiya Chrome Silver X-11, mainly because I had it to hand. I masked a few panels off, and then appliedsome more Chrome Silver, with a few drops of Gun Metal to darken it up a bit.

I also hit a few panels with Tamiya smoke as this gives a slightly darker look.

Mucker, It's probably not your prep, that is the problem, I think it is just a case of the Gunze metalics being too delicate for masking over. 

Shame as I love the Gunze products, particularly their paints.

Bob - I have read in many of the reference books I have that they were left "natural aluminum" I paint mine Int. Green mainly as my airbrush is loaded from painting the Int. sides and floor. I can then brush some "aluminum" on to show wear marks.  Something I have yet been able to replicate with a natural finish.  So mainly for me it is builder choice..
