Man, what church does Mike belong to?? Does he preach there?? (Don't answer either of those questions!! lol)

Robert, looking real good, as always!

Got a question for you Firefly types. My DML has what I assume to be a what would represent a welded cover over the hull machine gun opening. I think I finally figured out which direction it should go, flat edge up and pointed edge down. But that leaves a gap at the top edge between the cover and the hull.
1- Have I got it oriented correctly?
2- Is the gap supposed to be there or does it need to be filled?

Thanks, all.

Your slow-poke building buddy...

By 'this fair island' I assume you mean Hawaii? I've been to Hawaii in December, March and during some surfing competitions at Wiamaha (spelling??) Bay. Good fun. I'm not good at surfing, but I sure enjoyed it!

Oh,

Back on subject, did the base color on my hull yesterday. Ready to weather heavily.

Ron

well perhaps i should have called it "this sceptred isle..." (Shakespeare, Henry V i think, but i never read that one at school)...i did in fact mean Great Britian!!!Wink [;)]
it's funny how we can talk at cross purposes for ages, and only just realise!!Laugh [(-D]

Nick,

Ahh yes. Well, next summer (not this summer), my wife and I hope to take a graduate course in Scotland (literary Scotland). I, of course, want to visit Bovington when finished!

Hope to start weathering the Sherman tonight.... (to keep on topic a little)

Bill,

That's the way I did it. Just filled in the crack with glue and dabbed some texture on it to make it look like a weld.

Good luck

Holy cow .... question period or what !!!!! LOL

Petbat - re: fuel caps
Part A - I would say yes they should be changed to the set that has the little locking arms
Part B - see
pics from M4 Sherman Walk Around

Derek - Yes they have little drain holes. see pic

Nick - the idler is all metal and doesn't have any rubber around it at all. I paint mine metalic and then weather it from there.

Jim - Yes I used Tamiya XF-61 Dark Green

Think that covers them {pant} {pant} Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]

Build, That doesn't look even close to where my instructions say to put it. I'll take the pic you posted and hold it next to my Firefly and try and figure this stuff out. Thanks for the post.

By the way;

There is a copy of the Ampersand "Modelers Guide to the Sherman" on e-bay right now.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3178644633&category=2588&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT&rd=1

Last time I checked, it was over $35 and still had over two days to go! Think I'll wait for the new edition, even if it does take 2 or 3 years!!

Wow, surfing in Britain. I live in Florida and don't surf. Too many arieal photo surveys along the beach while I worked out at the space center. I've seen the sharks.
Sharks in the water, indys in the water. Water not safe.

I continue to plod along with the indys. Thanks for the encouragement.
Everything else is done. Its the last part to be finished. I guess you can only make so much stowage berore you have to face up to doing the tracks. The frustrating part of it all is that so far, up to 1/3 of the track shoe connectors (part F2) have to be redrilled. Either one or both of the holes are filled in.

Will do, Robert. I assume you mean the picture build22 posted. I printed it (as well as the ones you posted) and will compare them to mine when I get home tonight.

Thanks

Just was looking over the last three pages of the tread.Wow Robert good job and hope you all can get done quickly, would like too see more before I leave hopifully on the 8th.Also I have found some Pactra paints and I am runnig out of them. The rest of my paints are Model Master,Testors and Humbrol.Does anybody know were I can get some more Pactra?DiggerSmile [:)]Cowboy [C):-)]Smile [:)]
P.S. I found that if you use a Bic stick pen or a pencil between the teeth of the DML tracks after you have a section done,it will help them to keep stright.

i doubt there's any problem of shark attack off our south-west coast, unless BodyGlove or some other company invents a wetsuit for sharks - then i'm gonna be real worried!![:0]Laugh [(-D]

i took a look at the indy links for my firefly (yes, those which lay pleasantly redundant on their sprues!!Tongue [:P]Wink [;)]), and saw the same feature - or lack thereof - that you describe. how can manufacturers still do this to us?!Angry [:(!]Angry [:(!]Angry [:(!]

my progress:
all the eduard PE is now onBig Smile [:D]; just got to sort out what extra storage i'm gonna put on there. one annoying thing: the PE jerry can holder that goes on the left of the rear hull plate BEWARE...i tried 4 different jerry cans in 1/35 and none of them fit!!Angry [:(!] but then again, this is my first PE set where i've used evrything pretty much and that's the only real problem.
after that i going to prime it all with black as i've got sooo many recesses in my kit that i should declare it a court house! (?) i figure that if i get black into every little space then if some olive drab doesn't quite find its way in, it will look like dirt/shadow etc...at least that's the idea. oh, and i'll be doing all og=f this prior to putting the suspension assemblies on, as there's no way i can paint those tyres black once they're on the kit.

sherm, thanks again for the heads up on the rear idlers. was that a feature of fireflies in particular, or all sherms by the way?

happy modelling.

nick

You'd think I could see Nick's side bar that says UNITED KINGDOM.... Hawaii? Well, it was a kingdom once and they'd like it to be again from what I hear.

Why is this page so WIDE all of a sudden?

Robert, those are some nice detail shots. I always hated those little idiot chains on the hold down pins. Always seemed to either get tangled up or scrunched my fingers.

Ron.

Larry, thanks again for the picture. That is where I was trying to put that piece. It just looked different from the angle of the picture.

I noticed I've "lost" the handle on top of the drivers hatch. If it doesn't turn up with the vacuum method, I guess I'll have to bend up a piece of brass rod. Hold 'n Fold to the rescue again!

Model club meets tonight and even though they are doing canopies for wingy thingies, I will probably go, so no work tonight.

hmmm, i guess i must have bent the jerry can holder wrong or somethingDisapprove [V]...either way, a bit of "sneaky sanding"Tongue [:P] and there's now a jerry can in there (albeit somewhat wedged!!).
i used the mesh frame you mentioned, if only because it looked quite cool!!Cool [8D]. i didn't see any photos with it in either, but then again i didn't look too hard!!
i added the accurate armour cheek armour to the turret. i was going to use their frontal applique armour but it was so poorly molded i used a combo of the dragon kit's and scratch built.
i also used the acc arm hull hatch cover for the driver's side for its extra detail.
apart from that i was pretty disappointed with the mold quality from accuarate armourAngry [:(!]Angry [:(!]Angry [:(!]
guess i'm silly in expecting products to be a s advertised eh?!

The jerry can holder on my PzII in my sig below, is an Eduard PE piece. The instructions show it with positions for 4 jerry cans. I have two different Tamiya sets of jerry cans, one set wouldn't fit at all and the other, I was barely able to get 3 in the rack. The rack really got kind of mangled during the different assembly steps (I glued it onto the tank way earlier than I should have). I was kind of concerned about it at first, but figured they were probably pretty beat up on the real thing, anyway.

(Sorry to talk about a German tank on an Allied build! Ashamed [*^_^*]Ashamed [*^_^*]Ashamed [*^_^*]

The BARV is in the paint booth!!

FINALLY!!

I've got it painted with black and have added the Khaki Drab section for the star.

I'm now facing the battle of the greys.

So far the best match I have found (based on the pictures sent to me by Robert of an actual surviving BARV) is Polly Scales French Light Blue Gray. And even this one needs to be toned down with about 25% white to get it to look scale. Tamiya XF-66 mixed 50/50 with white is a good second choice. so it decisions, decisions.

I can't help it.......I still like to work from a color chip.......It's a sickness I carried over from the days when I built exclusively "wingy-thingy's". (But we don't talk about those days anymore!!!)
