oh a tip on posting you pics. just right-click on the picture and click on properties. you'll see a line that says URL, and it has an address there. just copy that address and paste it between the tags.

Is there any type of glue that will stick to the vinyl tracks. I'm trying to 'tack' them into position against the wheels, etc, but they keep braking loose? Using CA glue... but it's not cutting it...

Although I am not part of the group build i am building a sherman. I have noticed in various pictures there is a lether like pad on the inside of the hatch. Was this for all shermans and if so how would i go about doin it. I was thinking of some sheet styrene (sp?0 but i wasnt sure the exact shape. Thanks in advance.

Murray - I've always used CA, how old is your bottle?

Awasoda - depends on which type of hatch you are using as to whether it had a pad or not. Sheet styrene is probably the easiest way to build one though.

The hatch that is open is the late style comander's coupala(sp?) which would be the one that had only one hatch. Thanks agian.

up date on the sherman m4a4 with 60lp rockets. well its finished. no weathering or wash at all on this one it looks to good to dirty. sherman you will have my 2 essays on the m7 priest and the m4a4 i hope by friday.but as for pics of them i want have a camera probally after the end date on the group build, my niece has till monday night to find it or she will have to replace it. she is with her dad this weekend so if she dont bring it home from her vist with him its gonna be a hard lesson for her. but this has been fun to take part in on the sherman group build. and all the other shermans are looking great. Big Smile [:D]

I'll try some different CA on the tracks. I do happen to have some loctite (as Chris mentioned), so I'll maybe try that. The glue I'm using is likely a couple of years old, so perhaps it's time to put it out to pasture...

I have the same question as Gary ...on some kits they look like they are just there... on the Italeri Marines M4 they have what looks like a wood frame. Can they be surface mounted without visible means of attachment?

Thanks Chris. The pics thing is just a coincidence. I did take quite a few at the dief center, and the editor used a few in the newsletter (just on the cover). Other pics in there were taken by the editor. I do take lots of pics, but most of them are of my 18 month old son!!

I'll get some better ones of the Sherman later this week. I was pressed for time tonight and didn't get the lighting set up correct.

Frosty, Murray, great looking work. You guys rock. Both are top notch builds.

Sadly...Saturday I leave to work an event in Mississippi. The upside is that I will be able to put on my medieval armor and fight for a week when I'm not selling. (I'll be thinking of you Ron...) The down side is that my Sherman is done except for the indys, which are almost done but won't be finished for the 15th. Arggh! I won't be back till the 23rd.

I hate indys.

Gary & John - Depends a little on if they are truly spare tracks or add on "armour".

Spares were mounted in frames or racks so that they could be removed and used. Some were mounted on the glacis and others on the rear plate of the upper hull.
Add on Armour (tracks) were welded in place on the glacis, side plates, and around the turret. Sometimes the guide teeth were welded directly to the plate, and in other cases a metal bracket of some form or another was used to hold them in place.

John - lots of time, don't get in a rush. The 15th is a "recommended" deadline, not written in stone.

Mike, Have a great time! I'm finishing up the mitten gauntlets now, have one almost all riveted together, then I have to sew in the gloves.

Finished putting in the exhaust and air intake systems on my kit's engine last night. Getting down to the little bits and pieces! Almost time to get into markings and finish weathering.

thanx 2 u 4 checking out my project 4 this build, & 4 all the positive responses!.
it's keeping my motivation level high... Big Smile [:D]

i was looking at the turret, & thinking it should b a bit smaller than it came out.
got 2 decide if i'm going 2 redo it; i'm not super precise with the scale measurements, but i want it 2 look rite.
of course, with a coat of OD, it'll look smaller anyway...
but i want the hatch & opening in the turret 2 look proportional in top view.
as usual, i'm finding something 2 obsess about...
LOL !

Well Gang my Shermie is done. It turned out great. Thanks to this build I tried alot of things that normally I woudn't have. Thanks to all of you that gave me advice and encouragement. that M4 is just fantastic... a really nice job on it !
i especially love the texture (glue stippling?) on the turret & upper hull...
it's that ESCI / Italeri 1/72 m4 kit if i remember rite...
