Thanks guys, good info!  I took a look at the kit last night, and realized I hadn't actually glued the fuselage halves together like I thought I had.  So, nose weight it is!  Thanks to you, I will not have a tail sitter at the end!

Pardon the pun!!!!PropellerToast

Johnny hope everything goes well for everyone!!!! Miss your input and builds on here!!!!Toast

Karl beautiful buildup.

Update on my moving.  I am currently living out of cardboard boxes.  We are still waiting for the reply from the selling bank.  6 weeks and counting.  Hopefully we should get an answer this week.  We've been told that when we get the OK from the bank they will give us a maximum of 2 weeks to move.  We are also trying to coordinate both closings on the same day.  So keep your fingers crossed that I will be in the new house by the end of the month.  JOHN

Thanks for the comments guys.

Mike T, it is the Trumpy 1/32, however the only AM will be the decals and a set of resin wheels to replace those horrible vinyl abominations.

Everything else is either OOB or scratch build additions.

Frank, I did a quick check yesterday afternoon to check where the COG sat, and with mine it was definitely aft of the main wheels.

Bear in mind, that mine has most of the interior detailing, ie guns, fuel tanks etc missing so is lighter forward than a build with all that left in.

I haven't built a 262 yet that hasn't required nose weight, and this is my 4th.

Beautiful detailing Karl!!! Was worth the wait!!!!

Frank, the instructions on my 1/72 called for weight in the nose as well. maybe do a mock up and see if it needs it first before doing surgery.

Outstanding work Karl, very nice!  I really am enjoying watching this one.  You do have me a bit worried though, as I did not add any nose weight to mine.  Wonder if I should open her back up and add some? Embarrassed

Hell's bells, Karl, that's incredible work! I'm always amazed by how much effort serious modellers put into parts of a project that won't be readily seen. This model deserves to stand on a mirror tile to show off this fantastic work! (Trumpeter 1:32 with AM?)

Well worth the wait Karl as it looks magnificent, I see what you mean about the contrast of the O2 and  aluminium it works really well. Nice work on all that wiring Yes

Back from the wilderness........

After 3 weeks I've finally managed to finish painting the under cockpit and wheel bay area.

Everything was given a coat of Tamiya Gloss Black, followed up with a few coats of Tamiya Chrome Silver.

At this point everything was given a coat of Future, and those parts requiring no further painting set aside for a oil wash later.

I painted the panel beneath the cockpit tub 02 in line with the restored example in the NASM, as I liked the contract between the aluminium and the 02, as well as painting the cabling.

I also added a data plate based on the pics of the NASM machine.

I followed the same painting process with the fuselage sides...

......following which everything received a Burnt Umber oil wash to highlight the framework recesses.

I then added some suitable weight to the forward fuselage bulkhead.....

...just don't tell the Queen what I used for weights!

And this is what it looks like all installed.

The fuselage halves have now been glued together, though only the front bulkhead has been added, leaving me free to insert the cockpit tub and rear bulkhead once I've sorted all the seams on the fuselage.

Now I'm through that, things should start to progress a bit more rapidly.

I could not resist taking 'Fish eye' pictures of mini-Me! Some remind me of the comical 'egg plane' models you sometimes see. These are not photo shopped, its a setting option on the girl friends new camera. Cannon SD 1400 IS. It also does single selected colors while turning the rest B+W, cool & fun settings!

Hope you fella's enjoy!

No progress to show yet, slopped on some mr surfacer 500 to cover some gaps and will get stuck into it 2mora. Had fun for a bit, for those that don't know I got my screen name from another hobby, flight simulators. I downloaded a 262 package and took the single seater up for a spin......well a few rolls anywayPropeller

think I might break sprue on my 190 whilst the surfacer dries overnight.

Karl,

Awesome work on that cockpit tub!Bow Down

Bought the girlfriend a new camera with 'fish eye' lens feature, also it has color select with everything else going B+W. When there is a cool sky as a background I will post some pictures of Mini-Me again, these features are too cool and I just have to try them out on that model!

Its a Cannon Sure Shot SD 1400 IS, mine is a measly 1200...Embarrassed

Guys, thanks for the kind words.

Yesterday & today have been spent adding wiring to the cockpit tub underside and the front wheel bay.

First I added the cabling from the switches on the port side of the pit from fuse wire.

Then added the connector blocks and loom on the starboard side.

This then hooks into the main cabling run on the starboard fuselage.

Then it was onto the wiring harness in the front wheel bay, this time made up from 1mm lead wire.

The roof of the front wheel bay has a large ejector pin mark in it, so I rolled a piece of foil over an Exacto handle and CA'd it in. I then added the hydraulic lines from more lead wire & foil.

Final touch was to add one of the boxes omitted from the port side of the fuselage, and add the wiring.

Next stop the paint shop.

GS, that pit looks to be coming along nicely.

The scratch built additions look cool.

Progress

Well I've finally managed to finish building the interior of the cockpit tub.

I wired up the back of the IP with 3 amp fuse wire.

I twisted it into bundles and added cable ties from foil.

I used Microcrystal Klear to create the lenses in the instruments, and I'm not overly pleased with the end results, as they have ended up somewhat cloudy.Sad

Next time I do one of these I'll fill the dial recesses with styrene, and then punch out the acetate dials and insert with a couple of coats of Future. C'est la vie.

I wasn't going to do this, but the AMS kicked in so I added the toe straps to the pedals, though I did at least hold off fitting buckles!

I used the Trumpy PE for the seat harnesses, but annealed it first to make it more pliable as it is a bit on the thick side.

I also added the pilot's oxygen hose from fuse wire, lead wire, and brass tube, as it was always prominent in photos of the pit.

You can also see the cabling added to the control column, another item I wasn't going to add, but.....

The prominent yellow labels below the switches were added from decal.

And finally all closed up..

Since taking that pic I've sanded off the locating lugs for the cockpit sill, and filled all the seams with CA & talc.

just need to cable up the underside of the tub, and the front wheel bay, then I can get on with painting the interior.

Thanks for the useful info guys. I think Iwill come up witha mixture of natural metal and RLM 02 to mimick what I see in the photos that I have.

I finally have some progress pics that I want to share

This id the nose wheel bay with a coat of primer. I added some styrene ribs and some tin foil plates around the access holes with rivets i punched with a dull needle

Next is the cockpit tub wich is from the Eduard set. At his time I only have the floor panel and the seat base installed. The side panels will come later after all the work on the main gear bay is complete. This should minimize the destruction od the control levers and such. Also in this picre are the two styrene seat frames.

Next are photos of the bottom of the cockpit tub. The piece of metal as it comes from Eduard is devoid of any detail whatso ever so I am having to add everything. I am simulating riveting with drops of CA but I now think I should have used tin foil with the technique I used above.

Lastly is the rear main LG wheel bay bulkhead. As I said before the old Hasegawa kit has very limited detail compared to the trumpy kits but I am adding to my skills set so I am very happy about this. I don't know how it is all going to turn out but I have my fingers crossed.

Thats it for know but I should have some more in the next couple of days. I am inthe process of working on the gear bay sidewalls and adding the electrical cable and boxes to these areas next. Any comments are welcome and thanks for looking!

From what I have been able to find, I think the gear bays inside the actual wings was RLM 02, while the areas inside the fuselage were left in natural metal.

Richie- Bummer that she may not make the show, but don't hurry the build now for it!  Would hate to see something go wrong trying to finish it quickly.
