Frank, I really didn't mean to set you on the path to the Darkside.

Enjoy that Abrams, I've yet to try modern armour.

Mike, I usually pre-shade under the RLM 76, and then post shade the 83/82/81 as I find I just lose the pre-shade under the darker uper surface colours.

Glad you liked the big E.

Not a great deal of progress other than filling panel lines and rivets.

Should have the wings together tonight at least.

Karl I love that 262 you did last year the paint finish was/is superb, something I aspire to. On your current build will you preshade to represent the darker putty lines? The E100 came out beautifully Karl Toast

Karl- I wanted you to know your recent target armor project has inspired me to do some work on my M1A2 Abrams I started last year and put away.  A little more masking, and she will be ready for some paint!  Thank you for the nudge to go back to work on that one. Toast

Ritchie, careful what fill as most, but not all of the panels were filled, the only exceptions being the fuel tank fillers in front off, and behind the cockpit, and the various hatches around the pit sides for fuel, electrics etc.

Also the circular & oval panels on the upper wing panels for the engine mounts, and the circular panels under the wings and tail for adjustments to the flight controls, though even this varied from machine to machine.

The big square panels under the fuselage were to allow removal of the fuel tanks, and they weren't puttied either.

The dark lines are putty, which goes to show how few panel lines there should be on a 262.

You can see my attempt at putty shadows on this one I did last year for the End Game GB.

Progress

I've held off painting the pit as there is so much dust on my desk from sanding the Mr Surfacer that painting is pointless without a full clean of the desk first.

So just a quick shot of before and after sanding on the upper wings.

I still need to do the areas of the forward engine nacelle on the ones above, but I was running out of places to hold them!

Ritchie, pretty much.

If you look at photos of in service 262, and restoration jobs, you can see very few panel lines.

Usually only those around access panels were left un-puttied, the rest being smoothed out. Even the rivets and screw heads were puttied.

Often the only sign of panel lines on 262 were the darker lines where the putty absorbed more paint than the surrounding metal.

Oh man do I feel like a total CHUMP that I didn't get this project started until late April.  I may just squeak by!

So far just the cockpit and cannon done.  I added the cables behind the panel using thin brass wire.  I also added pedal straps made from thin slivers from a coffee bag.  Everything is painted acrylic, either Games Workshop or Deltaceramcoat.

 

 

With any luck I will have the rest of the inner bits painted up and then the main chunks 'buttoned up' by the end of the week!

Karl that is a great looking target!!!!! Very nicely weathered!!! What a beast!!! Yes, choosing a scheme for the 262 is one of the hardest bits of the build me thinks!! There are so many to choose from!!! I am going for the moderate to heavy mottle, swinging towards Galland's, Heinz Arnold, or Heinz Bar atm.

Frank, I was at a LHS in Melbourne today and there was a Czech 2-seater 262 in 144!!! To finally see up close how VERY small that plane is I am still gobsmacked by your twins!!!!! My hats off to you mate!!! OUTBLOODYSTANDING!!!!!!

Thanks for the comments guys.

I really enjoyed the E100, but it did seem to go on forever, taking me 8 weeks to complete!

And I still need to do the figures and a dio base.

SF, spot on with the 128 L90 as far as I'm aware. I used a JR Jagdtiger barrel.

Haven't a clue about the engine though. It would certainly have needed some serious grunt as it weighed in around a 100 tons.

Progress

I've been scouring my references for an interesting scheme to go with on with this build as I don't fancy either of the options in the box, especially as one of them doesn't even cite the unit!

There are some great pics in the Jagdwaffe installment covering jet & rocket fighters of Ofw Friedrich Gentsch's machine from KG54, however the only decals I could find for this are from the long defunct Meteor Productions, see the link below.

The colour call out for the upper surface colours are completely wrong, but there's a good profile in the Jagdwaffe book, so not a big issue.

However, I managed to track a set down to a vendor in Holland, so with a bit of luck....

Excellent finish on the E100! The Allies are lucky this beastie never got to production stages. What caliber of gun is that, I would guess 128 mm L 90? Also was a more powerful engine proposed to power the tank, I know the Tiger and King Tiger series was under powered with the Maybach motors.

Frank, just want to say thanks for a great GB. I was really chuffed to finally get a 262 done. Afraid my dio is going to have to wait until later in the year. I will keep looking in on this and the 190 GB from down in the not so sunny Falklands.

No apology necessary mate!Toast Hoping to finish the Jake real soon, all I have to do now is put the ASV aerials on the fuse waist and do a tiny bit of paint nicks and a lil bit of exhaust stains and a bit of oily streaks. Going to get going on the 262 seams and hopefully have some more pics up this weekend.

Well got a bit more done, and fighting with myself. I really want to slap it together and paint it, but am restraining and want it to look decent so I can enter it in the OOB category at the modelexpo in June. In saying that, as long as I finish it before the show I will be happy, nonetheless shooting for the end of May deadline I originally planned on. Here are a few shots of my progress thus far.

The forward and aft fuse bits

closeup of some sheet tabs I added for security of bond and to help in the alignment of the two section's butt joint.

Empanage attached and now have to srt out the seams, the joint of the tail which is highly visible on the fuse.

And a sort of size comparison with my Jake floaty thing.

When the seams are sorted then will progress a bit more. Thanks for looking and really want to paint this sucker lol!!

 Daywalker, think I'll be doing a few 190's, just wish I could work an A-3 into this build, but I'll be happy building the longer A-8, or the longer still D-9, or even the longest ovem' the Ta152. Looking forward to starting on one. Heck might as well ask now, Would it be possible to get an extension...?

Geez... asking for an extension already?  LOL, I think we can do that.  If that is what it takes to see your work there, consider it done. Wink
