Time for a little update on a tiny pit... (did i say tiny? Make that miniscule)

Managed to get at least 9 different colors on that little surface including the drybrushing... Plus i experimented on a little thing i saw Randy and other modelers doing to a panel using a drop of future for the dials... Turned out pretty neat imho...

A 1:72 midget Mig21 puts your feet back on the ground after working on a 1:48 scale C47, i can tell you that lmao.

there is a cage that goes on the end of the cannons 1st try was a disaster will try again tomorrow small parts and big fingers

Ummm... I am a bit surprised myself but my Mig 21 is all finished and done. Without any doubt my fastest build ever. Almost everything on this model was aluminum so i basically only had to assemble and paint without too much fuss. Nice and straightforward.

This kit is one of RoG's newer molds (stamped 2005) and they are a world of difference compared to some of the older ones. Combine this with an extensive decalsheet and you got yourself a fun and value for money model (cost me $14)

Used Revell enamel aluminum paint and revell acrylics combined with my tamiya weathering set and some chalks for dirtying it a bit up, not too much.

Sherman1111 Yeah that PE can be a real pain but its worth it in the end I think, although not one of the things I truly like working with. My fingers hate small parts ya know. The Tunguska is really looking good.

Kermit what a sweet lil build . The weathering is great not over done and not under done, sweet is all I can say. As for complaints well I do have one, why did you cut off part of the tail in the last picture ????? Very well done my friend and you finished 2 in one day too thats impressive.

Here is kit #1 for this GB.  It's an Eastern Europe old kit of the the Mig I-270.  That was the Russian development from the Me 163 Komet.  Both prototypes were lost but it gave the Russians valuable information in thier other jet programs.

As you can see there is not much to this kit.  Really soft plastic with lots of flash and heavy sprue attachement points.  But it looked cool and cost me 5 bucks on ebay.  I really had to squeeze the fuselage halves together and it still left gaps.  Zap a Gap and putty will follow.

              Sorry, I have been absent lately but was participating in the Weekend Madness GB last weekend and then got the stomach flu earlier this week. Anyway, I'm better now but of course will be driving from Colorado to Louisiana (for T-day with wife's family) this week, so will be somewhat out of touch again from the 24th the the 30th.

PRAVDA news release

Anti Progressive Imperialst sabateurs caused an industrial accident at the Mikoyan-i-Gurevich experimental aircraft factory.  The spill damaged the canopy to the CCCP's newest and most advanced Air Defense interceptor, the I-270.  Several spys were shot after being found guilty.

Well had some time to work on the white washing and decaling today

first up the decaling, well, to say the least it was novel. Trying to get the decals to fit over 3 dimensional objects and corners is just silly. Most of the way through I said stuff it and started slicing up the decals to put them on

Here is a test run with the white wash on the back end. I went with chalk dust, mixed with water then brushing off here and there

Will try and get the last few things painted tonight then do the white wash

Ok heres the finished deal, almost, still have to add the head lights and tow cables I realized while uploading the pics. I do have to apply a sealing coat and maybe white wash wheels, mainly depends if I make a small display base or not really, so I know how far to go.

The white netting, I figure the white netting is supposed to be a camo effect. The picture on the box looks very much chain link fence.

Using dish wash? nope didnt even think about that, . I just made a thickish mix and slathered it on. I figured it would give me more room for error. There are a couple of areas it still looks thick, but for a first attempt, I'm happy .

Brush? I used a mixture brushes, including an old tooth brush, one long and one short coarse hair brush, one long soft brush and my airbrush for blowing excess dust away and dust out of the PE engine grill. I used the short coarse brush most with the soft brush for smoothing the rough areas. The tooth brush for really thick areas and the PE grill and the long coarse brush for here and there.

Well the Mig I 270 is done.  The canopy was destroyed in an alcohol spill so its foggy.  I thought about putting a tarp over it to cover it up but thought what the heck.  The base is just a piece of hobby wood ($1.29) painted with Lifecolor concrete and scribed with an ink pen, a little oily black spilliage and an umber wash.

This is my first completed kit in over 10 years so its crap.  It's Ukranian from the 50s so its crap.  It does bring me back into the fold.  Be gentle friends, I'm a virgin (on this forum, that is)

You are totally incorrect about the c*** word. First of all, major points for the 50's kit. Now this being a GB, and while I'm not the host, homework is to give us all the info you can on the kit, it's maker, what it looked like before it went under the knife, etc. Bonus red star for the subject (rarity) which means we all get to learn something. And well made, too. Order of the CCCP for adding a base, we're all taking notes on that one.

As for the canopy, it can be fixed in quite a number of ways. And you should. If you are up for popping it back off, you can make a new one. A relatively simple shape like that, you can plunge mold a new one, and if you do a forum search you'll see how. Or you could make a mold in plasterand pour one with clear epoxy. Or, and this'll be the easiest, paint it black. Paint on the frame lines again and make it really glossy. I resort to that on kits that have a hopeless cleary piece to start with.

I think it's way cool. 

The T-34 is super. Wonder what the story is with the diamonds? It'd be good to find out. My suspicion is it has to do with where the crew climbs up and down.

I'm starting the vehicle project- BTR 152 Command Vehicle and BTR 80. I was waiting until the Bear trap GB started yesterday as the 80 is a crossover. Looking forward to this.

My project is still alive, I swear! Like I said before I have been building/painting the sub-assemblys as seen here:

Tonight, I put together the fuselage halves, which included some of the assemblies. The directions only specified putting the cockpit in first, but dry fitting the parts showed that the bottom assemblies need to go in at the same time. Even so, it took some twisting and tweaking to make them all fit together. And after all that, the fits are still not perfect.

I tried to get a photo of the entire cockpit assembly before the fuselage was put together, but the photos turned out crappy. So this after photo is the best I can do. I'm not crazy about the cockpit, but I'm still new at this and trying to figure out some tricks for it.

So that's it for the moment. I will be out again for a few days, but then I have some time off for Christmas, so I should get this guy (almost) done then.

I'm about to start working on the Trumpeter 1:35 PT-76B amphibious tank.

If you're still taking entries I'd like to add a Petlyakov Pe-2.

I started her a few years ago and as you can tell she's a limited run kit. I got a little um... annoyed and after doing a partial cockpit shoved her back in the box and hid her in the darkness.

This could give me an excuse to dig her out and finish her off - I mean finish her off as finish building her not turn her into a Soviet kamikaze by throwing her across the room.
