I'd like to join - not sure yet what I will build.  Need to look at your provided references to decide.

Just a question, how does the F-16A fit into this?  I guess I need to do some studying.

Pakistani F-16As flew some aerial engagements against Soviet and Afghan aircraft that crossed into Pakistani airspace. Either intentionally or accidentally. They claimed a few kills.

Just ordered my Trumnpeter T-62 today from Sprue Bros.

Does anyone know of anywhere I could get pics or info on an Afghan version in use durring the Soviet invasion/occupation?

I am wanting to make a version that was in use by the Soviet backed government or one in use by the resistance, or even better yet one used to actually fight the initial invasion (if any where even used, don't know much about the Afghans initial reaction to the invation).

Bottom line, an Afghan tank would be far cooler and rarer then Soviet. If such an animal even exists. I still have a lot of research to do. If they didn't have any 62's then Soviet it will be.

Sorry for not being around lately guys. It probably seemed like I dropped off the world or something. I didn't drop off the world though, I did however have a ton of work to do in the architecture lab, thus my free-time has been swallowed up recently. 

bondoman - Thanks for the heads up on the Roden An-12 kit. Hopefully we may see you sign up for this GB.

mph34- If you want in on this GB just let me know, you can always decide what you want to build later. As for the F-16A, stikpusher already explained it(thanks stik), the Pakistani's had aquired some from the US and those were used to shoot down some Soviet aircraft. Thus  because these actions related to the Soviet-Afghan War, I decided I might as well include it in the GB.

Put me down for a SU-25.  My interest in the A-10 direct counterpart has been awoken.

Not sure yet what scale/manufacture - will depend what I find and can afford.  I'll take a look at what Squadron might have as well.

Got my T-62 from Trumpeter today. Have to say it looks pretty darn good.

Detail is looking great. The kit has clear plastic vision blocks, a bit of PE (to include a cable that looks great), a metal gun barrel, and seperate tires for the road wheels. Instead of being vinyl they are just seperate plastic parts.

The delecate parts in the kit are also wrapped in protective foamlike material right on the sprue. Never seen that before.

The downside that I can see would only be that there appears to be obly one configuration represented in the decals and provided paint scheme. Its Soviet and its green or your on your own here.

If anyone cares I can try to post some pictures of it later on. I have never posted any here before so I guess I need to learn how before we all get started in Dec. 

All in all I am really excited. Next to the Dragon M1A1 AIM I have sitting in my closet this looks to be the best kit I have ever seen. Having only been into this for a year now that may not mean a whole lot but for me I can't wait to get going.

I'm going to build the RoG 1/72nd scale - Have you come up with ideas? Not a lot of aftermarket stuff, but a very interesting aircraft!

HSteve- While doing some research into the Soviet-Afghan War I came across some references for Su-25 paint schemes during the war. If you want I could send them your way. So if you are intrested let me know and I'll get the info together.

It's amazing how overlooked this A/C was; The -25 was at least as agile at lower speeds as the A-10, better armoured, and faster top speed( There will be folks clamouring for proof)....

I'm still looking for aftermarket bits, but very hard to find in '/72...

The RoG kit is on my hit list, I'll find out if my LHS has it first...

BTW, Anything you have as far as refernce  matl's  always appreciated!

Michael I really like the sound of this build, it's something a little bit out of the ordinary so count me in. 

I've got a Tamiya T-55A and I'm currently hunting for some Model Kasten tracks for it and a few other bits and pieces so I should be good to go come Dec.

HSteve - I knew someone was gonna ask me about the badges sooner or later. No worries, I'm still tinkering with them on Photoshop and I'm still planning to make a few more. Then when a I have four or so made, we'll vote on which one's we'll keep(wether it be one or all four.)

darson - Sounds great, I'll sign you up! Can't wait to see your T-55.

Well I've just placed an order for Blast Models excellent looking T-55 Upgrade set. I've never used any Blast Models stuff before so I'll be looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

I've got a turret for a Tiger 1 E by blast, and it looks awesome! Very nice detail, good casting, and accurate. I havn't installed it yet, but test-fitting was almost perfect. I think you've got an awesome set there.

Never personally used a Blast Models set, but it looks pretty good. Since you do get an engine deck, mantlet cover, and lots of hatch options. Should make your T-55 really *pop*.
