Looking forward to following along. I might not start right away, as I have another build going, but as soon as it's done I'll join in.Smile [:)]

Cool [8D] It's great to see so much enthusiasm! I'm looking forward  to opening that eight-wheeler myself. A week and this GB is GO!

Yo, Bondo -- 1:72 BTR it is -- what brand? I'll update the Order of Battle. Yep, crossovers are fine!

KW13 -- logo/badge forthcoming, hopefully before the start date!

Sure, I'd like to build a BTR. I haven't built armor in a while but I do like Russian stuff. 1/72. Can I do it as a cross over with the Bear Trap GB?

Achtraden! 8x8 Group Build '09-'10
Posted by Thunderbolt379 on Saturday, October 17, 2009 8:37 PM

Hi all,

After an enthusiastic round of interest on the Armor forum in the last fortnight, I'm pleased to announce the official thread for the Achtraden Group Build . This is for 8x8 military vehicles of any period or nationality, being recon types, lightly armored vehicles, troop carriers, in fact any permutation of the eight-legger military combat vehicle.

Potential subjects include:

  • Sd.Kfz 234 Mks 1, 2, 3 and 4
  • Sd.Kfz 232, 236 etc
  • Lynx/Luchs
  • LAV-25, all variants
  • BTR-60, 70, 80 and 90
  • Centauro "wheeled tank"

... and no doubt many others.

The build is due to begin on November 1st 2009 and run until April 31st 2010 (six months), with a possible overrun of a month or two if warranted. Long winter evenings are approaching so we can 'slit the shrink-wrap' as good hobby time comes in up north.

I'm personally aiming to build Italeri's Sd.Kfz 234/2 Puma (Testor edition) in two-tone camo, and if time and workloads permit, tackle Trumpeter's LAV-25, OIF edition, and maybe even their M1126 Stryker as well.

I look forward to hosting this build and to seeing what a great lineup of talent and really hot models we can put together here!

Order of Battle at this time stands at:

  • Host (TB379): Sd.Kfz 243/2 Puma, Italeri 1:35; and Trumpeter M1126 Stryker, 1:35
  • Terry35: Centauro 1:35 Trumpeter
  • Axel Smith: BTR-80A, 1:35 Zvezda
  • Daywalker: M978 HEMTT tanker 1:35, Italeri
  • M1Carbine: SpaePz 2 Luchs (1:35, Revell-Germany) and Sd.Kfz 234/2 (1:35, Italeri)
  • Doc-hm3: Sd.Kfz 234/1 or /2, 1:35, Dragon
  • Nachtflieger: Sd.Kfz 234/2 Puma, 1:35, Dragon
  • MadMike: BTR-60, 1:72, ICM
  • Chris Hall:Sd.Kfz 234/2 Puma, 1:35, Dragon
  • Camo Junkie: BTR-70, 1:35, Dragon
  • Mike V: LAV-25, USMC, 1:35, Trumpeter w/ PE
  • Deafpanzer: Sd.Kfz 234/1, 1:35, Dragon
  • Brett: Sd.Kfz 232, 1:35, Tamiya
  • Grimmo: LAV-25 1/35 USMC, Trumpeter, w/ Eduard PE
  • Zero Enna: Sd.Kfz 234/3, 1:35, Itaerli, w/ extra detailing
  • Konigwulf13: ASLAV-25, 1:35, Trumpeter, w/ scratch detailing
  • Bondoman: BTR (variant?), 1:72, (company?)
  • Rhino92: Sd. Kfz 234/1, 1:35, Italeri
  • Gygax: Sd. Kfz 234/2 Puma, 1:35. Italeri

More participants coming aboard! Lots of Pumas and Piranhas, this'll be a formidable Armored Reconnaisance Group when it's finished!

We're in need of a badge still, I've not yet had a chance to do some scanning and image manipulation, but I'll try to put some samples together before the launch date.

Rules: Fresh starts, please, or no more than 10% done. Crossovers with other builds, sure, why not? OOB or as many AMs as you please, any scale, any subject, any period, any user.

So, time to gather your kits, accessories and tools, clear a few other items from the front of the bench in the next fortnight (I have a Me 262, an F-84G, a StuG IV and others all clamouring for attention) and we can get into the eight-leggers on November 1st.

Cheers, looking forward to a great build!

Mike/TB379
