Konigwolf13,

Excellent F-86! The first picture looks like a 1/72 scale model. One question on a acronym I see now and then:

LHS = Local Hard wear Store? Just wonderingHmm

LHS = Local Hobby Shop

As for the 72 scale look, except for the overdone panel lines and some oversized decals I'd agree. I finished the 1/72 Academy Sabre last December and I'll say after dealing with the academy decals v's these trumpeter ones I'm happier with the 144 version.

My E-2C is about 95% finished as well one of the engines broke off while decaling and I having had the motivation to start it again yet, even if it will be a simple fix. Once I do it will be just to finished the decals and any weathering. It seems my tremours are almost settled so I might be able get another done, but I wont push it.

Andrew

I recently saw someone from another site build this same model. It looks stunning. I need to go find one myself.

Last night I pulled out my Jolly Rogers F14 and F18 and started to apply some paint. I also picked up a Mini-craft P-47 this weekend. I hope to have photos up soon.

That F-86 looks sweet! I have several of those in the stash and look forward to building them. The A6M2 is still a work in progress due to my impending surgery, which may get delayed. Stay tuned!

Awesome build there Borg! I've always wanted to build a military themed RR layout someday.

Thanks, I was quite pleased with the build. It was done quite fast and brush painted but that works in this type of models, I just treated them like figures.

I won this kit in the tombola at the Dutch nationals, I do not know if I would have ever bought it.

Love it Borg Yes

Well finally got my E-2C Done. The oversized riveting along with the "wondeful" decals wanting to fold over all the time made it interesting and few got malformed but only one was destroyed. Heres the final pics. Oh I lost the nose cone during the break I had from building it and had to make a new one from miliput.

I dont know if I want to try another 144 E-2C in 1/144 scale as if I do another E-2 it will be the newer version. Also it really is a model where you need to paint and decal when it says otherwise some decals are almost impossible to place right (under grab handles and under and between the rader dome legs).

Your Hawkeye looks good Andrew! I like the French markings, and when I get around to building my own I'm considering making it Israeli. Sadly, due to complications from my surgery,I won't be able to meet the deadline for the group build of May 24, 2010 for my remaining kits.  I've really enjoyed this though, and plan on entering other groups builds here on FSM.

Cheers all,Douglas

Well peeps only a day and a bit left my time, nearly three left for those not so close to the date line.

Douglas, no problem mate, As stated earlier I've had my own medical issues come up stopping me from doing as many builds as I'd like. Been great having you along.

There is some great work going on here. I like the Sabers a lot. What brand is the E-2c? Aside from the large rivets its pretty cool. I finished my Jolly Rogers Memorial flight and will post photos soon.

At long last here is my contribution to the group build. It is the Dragon "Jolly Rogers Memorial Flight." It was a fun kit to build. It was so fun that I went out and bought a bunch more Dragon and other 1/144 kits.

However the decals were horrable. These tiny kits have a tremendous amount of detail the the decals were so thick they covered them all. It also would have been nice if the makers of the decals did a spell check on the spelling of the carrier. Kennedy is spelled with 2 n's. See photo six. What a shame

Dirkpitt great looking builds. As for the spelling, yes I've seen my share of poor print check, mostley on trumpeter but on others to.

Well thats that, officially time is up, those with builds still on the bench and others with completed builds yet to collect feel free to collect your badge. Of course feel free to complete any  builds or post whatever else.

Thankyou all for taking part, while I had hoped to complete far more, I'm happy with what I was able to complete as its more than I thought possible at one point. Again thanks all for some great builds and taking place.

Wow some great builds here!!!! I have been a devout 1/72 man and recently had the pleasure of seeing Daywalkers twin 262's and bit the bullet and purchased a 144 Revell AV-8B Harrier, so don't know I might join in the fun and see how I go with it!! BTW when is the deadline???? I went to the LHS to get some more 144 kits and was floored at the prices!!!! I mean I wasn't about to pay $40AUD for a Minicraft SuperConnie when I bought the 1/72 Airfix kit for $50!!!! I then saw a few smaller planes that were the same prices as very nice 1/72 kits!!! Just a shock knowin that if I want to venture into an even smaller scale I will be paying the same or even more than larger kits is all.Bang Head ANYWAYS great looking builds guys, looking forward to seeing more!!!!Toast

Cool looking Tomcat & Hornet there Dirk. I know & agree regarding DML / Dragon's decals. I built one of their 1/200 scale B-52's some years ago and though a good kit, the decals silvered something fierce!

Cheers,Douglas

Dirk, Andrew, et al.,

Ya'll did some nice work.  My E-2C kinda fell by the wayside (plus I just plain forgot when this build ended) as I lost interest in it.  However, I got a little rejuvenated seeing a 1/1 at a local airshow last Saturday.

Richie,

If you do the bigger birds in 1/144, you do save money not to mention a whole lot of space.  That's what I'm doing anyways.

Got any photos of that real 1/1 E-2C or what unit and what airshow were you at?

I hope to get to a couple this summer, including one in a suburb of Metro Denver, which will be celebrating the regional airport's 50th this year, the former Jefferson County(JeffCo) /Rocky Mountain Metro Airport,in Broomfield.

According to the Navy's Tactical Demo Aircraft Request site,VFA-125 F/A-18Cs are to be apart of this!!

We've also had some of our local "Buckley Boys" Air Guard/AFB,thier F-16C of 120FS/140FW which have included some "war weary & weathered" with missions on the noses!!

I'd hoped I could have finished up on an older(1993 release)VF-31 low-viz F-14D,201/NK/CVN-72 Lincoln, from Dragon or the newer colorful MH-60S's combo of HCS-21/23,but I'm also trying to make a possible move to a larger space in about 6 mos,so I'm putting some projects on hold so I won't have so much extra to pack!!

I really should sell, some "impluse" buys of late too!!

Suppressionfire, well done mate.

As for getting up a collection of the finished builds I'm on it, but the last two times I tried I get to page five and the page never loads, I'm gonna try backwards next time see if that helps.

OK Jason, explain to me how 1/144 ended up in medium scale!!! "small scale" must have been 1/144, single engined...

Looks good though, esp. the exhaust trailing behind.

Who makes this little guy? My brother-in-law used to build... got married / has kids / etc...  Now claims he'd love to still build, but it takes too much time & space to build & display. I'm thinking of picking up a couple of these little guys, WW2 a/c of course.

On the bench: Airfix 1/72 Wildcat; Airfix 1/72 Vampire T11; Airfix 1/72 Fouga Magister

This was a Trumpeter kit. The fit of fuselage to the bottom was poor and I had to remove the alignment  tabs.  Daywalker built Edward Me-262 combo pack, he may have more advice for that kit(s) Dragon makes comb packs of 1/144 scale aircraft and now rare they had a series of WWII armor in 1/144 scale.

Looking at Squadron's price list it seems the better offerings in this scale are priced a bit more, the Trumpeter kit I built was prices at a liquidation level! Most will cost less than 15$ depending on the size of the model.
