(Anti) Submarine Warfare GB 2010 *CLOSED*

I am so sorry..... The (anti) sub groupbuild closed with Randy finishing his seahawk. I am currently in the USA on a holiday so i cannot make the gallery post at this moment. My sincere apologies for any misunderstanding.

However,....

As i am also hosting the "Ostfront" GB the midget sub could very well be eligible for that GB..? I happen to know that germany operated at least a bunch of type II's in the Black sea. To me it seems very likely that they also operated midget subs for harbor operations and maybe even covert ops landings and the likes.... Just a wild guess.

Ahhh no way, i just checked the dates on page one, i can't beleive i missed it....for some reason i thought i had until march to finish this one

I will research Biber operations and hopefully find one that operated against the Soviets and i promise to complete the Panther that i started in the Ostfront GB....

I still gotta finish 5 2010 Subs... Alpha, Akula, USS Dallas, USS Skipjack, and HMS Torbay. But they are all near completion...

Well.... i guess i can do a second round...maybe 6 month running time this time.

Just thought that enthousiasm for such a group would be limited given the rather specialized subject Would love to see a destroyer or two done though....

Yes... I wanna try my hand on an ASW surface ship...

While originally committing to round one I then missed it completely. So yes, I'd be up for round 2.

Hummmmm a Destroyer huh haven't done a ship in, like,  years, maybe one of those little ones would work 1/350 scale or sumpthin like that hummmmm.

I am also in either way... depends on the timeframe, either more of the subs currently on the queue, or (if I have the time), a modern (non-guided missile) destroyer, such as the Dragon AEMSS Arthur W Radford.

Today I completed the Alfa and applied the decals to the USS Dallas. Let's just say that after this kit I do not think too highly of Dragon Ship decals. I also applied decals from Airfix, Alanger,and Revell to other sub kits today and hands down, the Dragon ones were the most un cooperative.

very nicely done... what color did you use to paint the upper hull?

On my last carrier, I used an artist's paint pen (from Michael's craft store), ultrafine tip. Not cheap (about 9-10$), but I like it better for small-ish white details and lines than dealing with decals. Also great to highlight IPs dials, etc.

I really need one of those ultra fine white pens! Especially as I have more subs in the stash. Thanks for the tip on where to get one. I thought I had one, but unfortunately not. For the upper hulls I use Polly Scale "Sacle Black". Fresh out of the bottle it is a flat very dark gray. After a coat of future it gets darker and takes on a slight bluish hue. And as you can see from the Alfa and the Kilo I completed it does have a nice weathered black color after a flat top coat.

Here is a comparison shot. On the Kilo I used Humbrol clear flat for the top coat, on the Alfa, I used Gunze. I prefer the Humbrol finish.

Ladies and Gentlemen....

With Stik's finishing up his impressive 1:350 fleet of underseas heavy metal, my coming home from the USA yesterday and suffering from a bad case of jetlag (it's 3 am as i write this...) it is now officially time to start the final post of this ASW Group build.

First of all let me say it has been both a privilege and an honor to be able to host this Group and it's collection of amazing work. I noticed that i am not the only one who is "into" submarine warfare and everything that involves this genre

Next up will be me composing a gallery post of all your amazing work. To be able to do that is a reward all of it's own since it will surely evoke some memories of all that has happened during the course of this GB.

Stikpusher I cant believe I missed your finished posting., my apologies to you sir. Very well done on all of your subs, that is one nice herd of them you have there. I especially like the prop on the Dallas.

Thanks Vetteman! That big old gold "fan" screw sure does stand out on an otherwise dark finish. I am ready to tackle USS Chicago now... A Flight II boat with the VLS in the bow for missiles...

I came back to these boards too late to really get going on this GB, but hopefully will participate if there is another. Awesome job on the subs Stikpusher. I love to build Sub models too.

Thank you Tony. I really like Subs also. Last week I picked up AFV Club's I-19. A big boat by WWII standards,but quite complicated as well. After building all those modern boats it is akin to going from building delta wing jets to a WWI biplane...
