Kermit I too have been hung up on my build so don,t be feelin bad about it.

Bondoman all I can say is WOWZERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! you have nailed that build for sure. Very impressive and well done.

Guys thought I would give you a bit of an update on my Avenger build. I kept looking at the turret and thinking about the masking I will have to do when I paint it. The more I thought about how I was going to mask it the more nervous I became sooooooooo. I spent a couple of days splitting the rear of the fuse apart again removing the turret and hand painting the frame on it.  So here is a pic of my wobbly handed frame painting should be worth a giggle or two LOL

Now that I have gotten over this worry maybe I can get on with the build again and get the turret back in and the fuse reglued

Very nice work Vetteman. Really, sometimes I get hung up too and the solution is really to keep it simple.

Masking canopies (i agree) is one of the most tedious things in our hobby and can get even irritating if your model resembles a greenhouse, just like the avenger Don't worry about it and it doesnt look that bad Randy

Found out that the best way that works for me is to mask the entire thing, burnish the tape down so the framework is clearly visible and then take a sharp, fresh knife, carefully and slowly cutting along the rims. Don't push too hard as you basically want to cut the paper, not the plastic. Minor scratch marks wont be a problem as they will be right along the edges wich will fill with paint anyways.

I commend you for your persistence with this build and hope that, now the masking part is done, your case of modelers block will lift soon

Guys I tell ya getting that worry outta my head really did the trick Got the rest of the wing center section on and the Avenger is now at this very moment sitting on the gear legs. Hopefully I will get the wing root gaps filled and the outer wing panels glued on her tomorrow. And if that isn't enough while that is drying I have my air racer Miss America almost ready for paint. Cant believe how such a simple thing could throw me for such a loop. Thanks for the encouragement guys

Richard – very nice WIP on the Avenger.

Randy – good job on that old Avenger… yes ,I also had that one as a kid, it “helped” me sink (blow up with firecrackers) my two IJN carrier fleet in a recreation of the Midway battle..lol.

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement guys. JMart I don't remember what happened to my first build of this kit, it was just too many years ago LOL

Got a bit more work done so here are some WIP pictures.

Had some huge gaps at the wing roots so I slid some plasticard in the gaps and used Tamiya's liquid glue because it wicks so well. Both top and bottom wing roots got the same treatment.

A quick trim with my trusty hobby knife and the gaps were gone, a great idea I got from someone here on the forum.

Next were the outer wing panels, what a nightmare those were. Nothing wanted to line up or fit at all, I finally threatened them with my trusty 3 foot crowbar and they went on in a fashion of sorts. I still have some work to do on them. Anyway thats where it is at now hopefully I will get more work done during the week.

Work was slowed down Sunday due an invasion of my " MANCAVE" check out the posting on the aircraft thread. I had a blast !!!

Now that Randy reached the masking phase of his build i felt increasingly frustrated for not finding the inspiration and enthousiasm to do the masking on my Avenger. Have to admit that turret is very tedious to mask and like Randy it caused me to postpone the chore

Luckily i found my own "mojo" back today and found a way to mask the canopies, turret and finalise the pre-painting assembly work on this gorgeous kit:

Hope to stay on track now. Would really love to finish this build up before i leave on a six week trip end May. Thanks for watching gents

Caribwill, Great work on your submarines! I am really starting to like these 1/700 kits. The white "pinstripe" came out great too, i know how you can seriously get frustrated masking and spraying white stripes. Well done indeed. Your builds will be added to the mainpage as soon as i get time for it after work

As for me... I actually managed to get that turret installed Bit tricky and fiddly but with some careful swearing and angry looks towards my turret it finally surrendered and went in

Only got the undercarriage assembly in front of me before i can take out the airbrush...yayyyyy Thanks for watching and commenting.

Kermit WOW!!!! you masked that turret ? You are much braver then I my friend. Your Avenger is coming along very very well. Cant wait to see some paint on it, like you I am going to go for a 3 tone paint job, but dont think I will be doing any painting this week on it as I still have some wing issues.

Caribwill your subs look great, that white stripe must have been a nightmare but you pulled it off very well I gotta try a sub one day me thinks.

Thanks Vette, as always, but you can be honest with me after seeing my latest WIP pics... Stubborn dutch guy as i am i have decided on doing the camo job freehanded using humbrol enamels. It reminded me of the fact that i am A.) NOT a master of airbrushing techniques and B.) I need a new nozzle on my airbrush (revell Vario).

The nozzle problem i have lately (not perfectly round at the tip nomore) caused lots of overspray that i have tried to correct both using a q tip dipped in terpentine and using the 'ole brush. And it shows....:

Trying to make the best out of it i have added a black wash overall afterwards as well as some drybrushing using a lighter blue humbrol enamel colour. Apart from that i have chosen to not occupy the bomb bay with bombs and depth charges as i really like the detail inthere. Just imagine this bird waiting for the ground crew to load her up if you will...

Still i think this is the best kit i have had the pleasure of building sofar, even though the instruction sheet is a true nightmare. So,... great kit, wrong frog handling it...

Its not easy being green indeed....

Kermit ( Richard) you did that free hand ??? WOWZERS !!! She is lookin good, very well done. I do have to agree with you the detail in the bays both torpedo and landing gear is just too good to cover up. maybe build a trolley for the torpedo and place it under the bay doors ?

She's finally done.... Took me alot longer than expected but i am happy the way it turned out eventually. The kit itself was truly superb making me more and more interested in the IL2 Sturmovik in my stash by Italeri which is also an Accurate miniatures kit...

The instructions however (italeri took over Accurate miniatures drawings without the text they used to work along side of the instructions) were a horrible nightmare, forcing me to solve every problem myself basically. Really challenging and the model would have turned out better if i had better instructions. Nevertheless i am quite pleased overall.

The airplane depicted was stationed aboard the escort carrier "Mission Bay" and operated mostly in the atlantic according to the instruction sheet. I just liked the colourful markings...

Ok finally ready to re-start on this thing. Had been trying to lower the count of the builds on my bench for some stupid reason but have come to my senses now. Anyways heres the box and bagged parts will be making the actual start tonight (I hope)

Suh-weeet helo Andrew! Really love those markings; very agressive. Are they sprayed on or decals? Looks like quite the masking job to spray the tail on this scale... I am going to seriously enjoy this one Glad to have you and have fun.

Richard I think I found the answer to my troubles with the wing seams on the Avenger I will let you know tomorrow if all worked out and maybe even have a picture or two to post. Funny how one can solve a model problem while working on another build isnt it

Well got some more bench time in, this builds going really fast. The quility of the fit is great, wish I could say the same about the colout note in the instructions, ie there are none except for the basic outside scheme

Whatever works for you buddy I have been known to bin a few kits because they were just too horrible to work with. Step back from it, put it on the shelf for awhile and start something new or dump it in the trashcan alltogether. I really don't object in any way. No point in building a kit you hate Really interested in the pics though...

Might as well post some news for everyone in the group...

Next week ill be gone to the US for 6 weeks (if that stupid ashcloud stays quiet...). In the meantime i wont be able to post updates on the front page im afraid. But anyone who wants to join in... by all means start building and post WIP updates As soon as i get the chance i will update stuff where appropriate.

Well cant seem to take a brake from this build. Done as far as I can without airbrush, prolly thursday before I can get some time with that,

Gonna go with one door open and one closed, and yes Lynx's are suppossed to have outward angled landing gear, helps on ship handeling.

Great work on your lynx Andrew. I have a fondness of hobbyboss kit's myself. Somehow brands like hobbyboss and Academy among others seem to be able to produce very complete and attractive models for very competitive prices. Melikesit

Ok here goes... Almost two weeks since the last post so it was just about time to save this thread from the second page...

I have finished the "beast"!!. Took me the better part of a year (since purchase) but i am very pleased with the results myself. I have even added the gun barrel "plugs" like Randy suggested (thank you; looks great!)

After i thought the rust looked "rusty" enough i have finished up with some last minute drybrushing and chalks and coated the sub with a matte varnish to tone down all the layers of future. It was getting a bit too shiny for my taste.

But i can rabble on for hours about the subject...just see for yourself i would say:) I give you.... U-995.

This rustbucket cost me a full box (200) of q-tips by the way...just to name one thing...

Feel free to comment about stuff you like to see different... This sub is right now how i had it in my head at the start of the build. Hope you guys enjoyed my work

Thank you thank you. She is finally finished and sitting on the shelf next to me. I do find myself looking at it alot and being happy with it Still have the GATO class in very early stage of construction waiting for me but projects like these require a heck of a lot of patience and work...
