ME!  ITS ME!  Here are the first WIPS

Started on the pit.  I'll do this OOB.  Shot some RLM 02 on the interior parts.  This is a very simple kit but it fits well so far.

Satch, looking forward to more WIP!!! Looks like it will be a cracker of a kit!!! Surprised to see the splinter applied on such large decals!!! Please tell us u will be painting the splinter!!?? Those LARGE sheets of very thin material IMHO is asking for trouble!! At least you got swastikas with it.

Yes, I will be painting alt the colors.  I think these kits are marketed as easy assemble not paint required kits.  Very few sprues and it's molded in light blue plastic so all you have to do is put the cartograph decals on and Voila, instant camo.

This will be the first build in my coming collection of Heinz Bar's mounts.  Hmmm this gives me an idea for a Group Build...

Hey guys,

To get things started on my own build i thought i might write a bit of an introduction post before i really start off with my contribution to the group build... Been studying the subject and the instructions a bit the last few days and i must say that i am a bit intimidated with them. Nevertheless i plan on making a real start on my model somewhere this weekend and get some pit work done.

Some pics for you to get familiar and up to speed:

put a quarter dollar with this next picture alongside with the main wheels to give something of a scale impression:

More news to follow ASAP boys...Wink Thanks for watching

kermit,

HUGE kit! 1/32 scale is large for even a single engine subject, can't wait for the WIP's. Detail looks crisp as it must be newly tooled molds from Revell.

Here is progress on the Luftwaffe pilot. A small 'chip' was in his very thin resin visor so after a few trys with Tamiya putty thinned with liquid Testor's cement I managed to fill it. The primer photo is self explanatory. I positioned the arms like in the Ultracast's photo, his left hand would have needed replacement to position any other way. Instead I drilled out a hole in his right hand fingers for a cigarette to be added after painting.

Hey Satch, On most of the late WWI German aircraft a lozenge fabric was used to cover the wing surfaces. This complex camoflage material is reproduced with decals for aircraft in differing scales. Not suggesting that you use the kit splinter camo decals, just pointing out that if there is a will, there is a way. You're thoughts on a GB are interesting, I've been looking for decals of Gerhard Barkhorn's aircraft. I've seen his 190 Dora in the Osprey books, but I haven't seen anything in the lines of aftermarket decals or any reference photo's of his 6./JG26 BOB mount, which I'm assuming, would have been an Emil. Congrats on the first post.

Kermit,  I was considering one of these aircraft for the GB, but in a smaller scale. I'll be following your progress.

Should be getting started on the 110 shortly. Busted open the celophane and took a look. Lots of fiddley bits:)

Kermit- if it turns out half as well as your F4U your target... um... strike that... I mean Ju-88 should look great!

Supressionfire- congrads on thinking outside the box again you maverick!

The weather was so nice I went for a drive yesterday evening and ended up stuffed full of sushi and ice cream. Didn't get anything done, will start on the cockpit this weekend. Hey, it's a Tamiya kit, unless I drop it this build should be easy as pie right? Angel

Barkhorn was actually flying with 6./JG 52 during the BoB, so is his aircraft would have looked much like this:

He may have already developed his affinity for the number 5 at this point so you could use some artistic license and make it "Yellow 5" to represent his aircraft.

While researching Hans's Before they were Aces GB I came across Heinz Bar and his White 13.  The more I researched the more I liked him and his aircraft.  I have his Bob E-3, his 200 kill Fw 190 A8, and his Me 262.  I just need an F and a G in his markings and I will have the complete collection.  That is my idea for a GB, a collection of all a particular aces mounts.  I'm not talking about every aircraft one flew because most German pilots were shot down multiple times and wrote off dozens of aircraft.  Just each major variant or as many as you can get your hands on.  Just a wild thought.

Satch, you're quick out the blocks ain't yer! I look forward to seeing more progress soon.

SF, you do think of things from a whole different angle Big Smile. Makes me want to start doing figures myself!

Kermit, I looked at that kit last Christmas I just wish I had the space as it's such a beauty and a bargain, maybe I should add it to the stash and get a bigger house.... I will be keeping an eye on your build for sure.

Cheers...

Further progress on White 13:

The only fit problems were self inflicted by placing the cocpit side wall too far back.  The canopy will be closed so no blood no foul!

Satch,

Great work sofar buddyYes Hope the putty and sanding wont be that much of a problem for you once you glue it all together. Keep them pics comingBig Smile

Got a mini update to share too... This morning i took the time to highlight the sprue images in my instruction booklet where there were parts that needed a coat of interior grey (RLM 02, right?). This way i can avoid having to mix up the paint 5 times and get it all done in one goWink Just now i have cut a few parts from the sprues to get underway with the detailed painting:

If you look closer at the main IP you will notice a little bit of a problem; probably the first of many little ones to overcome.... My IP dials have holes in them on certain spots that will require some filling first:

WIP pics of the finished parts to follow soon gentsWink Thanks for watching, hope i can deliver....

Kermit, if you've got access to a circular punch, just punch out some thin styrene disks and pop those in the dials.

That is going to be one stunning pit by the time you've finished.

Luftwaffle,  did manage to locate a set of decals for 6./JG52 BoB, and with alittle CAL (creative artistic license) should be able to build Barkhorn's mount. Still don't no why I listed it as JG26, thanks for setting me on the proper direction and course

Kermit, that is gonna be a cool pit. Love the detail on the walls.

Hey there Richard I agree with Karl, the easiest way to fix those sink holes in the IP is with a punch & die set and some thine styrene sheet.  If you don't have a punch & die try something like Gunze Mr dissolved Putty (gotta love those names Stick out tongue).  It's basically liquefied putty that can be applied precisely with a brush.

Satch you are really kicking butt and taking names with that 109, great work.  I can't wait to see her closed up with some paint on.

Guys I have decided to change my build as I can't find the kit or the PE for my 109 dio.  So in having a look at the stash I see a nice Tamiya Spitfire Mk.I in the shrink wrap so that's what I'll be building.  I ordered the PE and masks for it today, so I'll be starting off as soon as I can.

Cheers

kermit,

Thats a tough fix for sure, I would be tempted to drill out the gauge faces a bit and fill with white styrene discs punched out of .10 sheet with a punch + dye set. That way they could be painted black and the markings scribed with a tooth pick.2 cents It would save filling and trying to sand smooth.

Work has commenced on the 1/32 Eduard Bf 109E-1, this will be "Brown 2" of 6./JG 54.

I have most of the interior work done.  This kit has really been a treat so far, detail is just amazing.  Since this aircraft was still sporting 70/71 on the upper surfaces I figured it may have been a veteran so I put a little more "wear" in the cockpit than normal, paint chipping, etc.  I started with a base of Magnesium Metalizer and after the MM acrylic RLM 02 was applied and still setting up I chipped the paint with a toothpick.  Followed by a coat of future and then an oil wash of thinned down Windsor and Netwon raw umber.  The oxygen regulator is too tall if installed stock, cut off the bottom two rows of perforations to get the correct height.  I also added a couple of Mike Grant placard decals and then applied a flat coat.

After taking the pictures I realized this mistake!  :Dunce

Mike- Bummer about that mis-located part.  Perhaps the pilot found it easier to have it where mounted?  I won't tell if you won't LOL.  Great work on that 'pit!
