My 1/24 build ,Black 12 has 75/77 (primer) as wing splinter camo .Page 69 Squadron/signal Fw 190 d walkaround . RLM 77 (primer) not to be confused with RLM 02 .Late stages of the war ,planes were assembled from wrecks , and assemblies were from all over , and supplies of camo paint were running out .My build also has nmf wing under side and under  fuselage nmf as well .Recent reading also suggests nmf landing gear bays as well for planes with the nmf  wing undersides. I would not be so worried about this ,I like to see the modelling skills ,before I judge the camo scheme .A prior posting in this GB shows a lotta books ,none of which I have (but want!) , I still have enough research materials to do the plane I wish.

Thank you ,Krow113

Great hacking skills Guy

Well, it's raining here so no outside chores and the wifey is out for the day so I decided to lay down the rest of the camo.

I'm not too fond of the way the mottle came out on the port side but I'm going to leave it alone. The RLM63 worked out okay for primer, I think. It's light and looks almost like the 76 from some angles. Still lots of work to do so I better get busy!

Hey everyone nice work Yes

Jeremy paint looks great

jmabx You asked me how I did post shading a few posts back sorry I didnt get back sooner.

I start by spraying the base color. Then take and empty almost all the base color back in the bottle and add a drop of white in the cup. blow air back through the cup to mix "backfeed like you are cleaning. Spray the middle of the panels only, more paint in center. Then put a few drops of black in and spray panel lines. Now throw away this paint start over with your base paint lightly over the area until you get it to look the way you want it. I am getting used to a new airbrush and have done better I need a smaller needle but I sneeked in a 109 with my WIP picture to show you finished product. On the late war 109 I used Tamiya smoke to further darken panel line area. I masked the panels off with post it notes and lightly sprayed smoke. Hope that helps and I didnt bore you guys too much. Big Smile

That should make for an intresting build Guy. Seems Frank has cast a spell on you and has you really tied into this GB! I am definetely in for at least one more a bit later too.

Jeremy Karen left you all alone unsupervised? :wiggle: It has been threating rain all day here too:raincloud: haven't seen a drop yet and I cancelled my trip to the range for nothing! Needless to say the Garand was very sad. I like the non standard colors and scheme. The fuslage colors look good to me buddy. Nice work.:439:

Guy the pit looks good. You have build enough Eduard 190's that you probally do not even need the instuctions sheet anymore I bet!

Frank looks like you are all ready to start slining the paint buddy. I see once agian you are employing the patented Frankenstyro paint platfrom. Looking foward to seeing some color on it.

Thanks Crusher!  Yep, the ol' Frankenstyro stand is in use again!  I have a number of them made up for certain kits, and use them over again.  Here, you can see the one I am using now being used last year for an A-3:

As expensive as these things are to make, I try to get as many uses out of each as I can LOL!

Been a while since the last progress report but I have been plugging along:

Paint applied, still a few spots that need touch up:

The obligatory shot of the spinner spiral:

Some work on the landing gear struts and retractors:

Next up will be the national and tactical markings, I'll be using Montex masks for these.

Ah yes Frank I see it is the same stand. Definetely do not want to let go of an expensive piece of equimpent go to waste. I have a whole box full of usefull "junk" that I keep in the model storage closet. It is amazing how much ordinary everyday hosehold items we can find a modeling use for. From Future floor polish and Windex under the kitchen sink to a piece of scrap styrofoam that anyone else would view as garbage. Scraps of wiring and solder of any size. I even remember reading an article about a Shep Paine diorama where he used hair from a wig for scrub grass!

Guy I am holding you Frankenstyro paint stand here in customs. Seems you do not have the proper clearance to posses such an advanced piece of American technology. However for a fiver I could see it slips through.:slap:

Mike where is the nose! Looks good so far and the details are also spot on.

Wow !!! all I can say is wow the work you guys are doing is amazing Toast I haven't been saying much in this group but I have been following it closely.

Guy that CP is really nice hope mine will turn out half as well.

Nomad68 that is a sweet sight a 109 and a 190 together like that thanks for sharing it. And BTW very nice work on both

After seeing Frank's F-8 and know how well he builds, insanely  well I might add, me thinks I might wait a few weeks before starting mine. His is a very hard act to follow.  Then again all the builds in here are hard acts to follow.

Randy So many to build.......So little time

You could try to tease some solution under the decal, apply washes of the solution to soften the decal up and be patient , the decal will soften and then you can work out the air with a fine brush. Looking at your work I see exceptional air brush work ,get the decals off and do them in paint..............

Thank you ,Krow113

WOW all round excellent progress shots!!!! Lovely paint jobs!!!Toast

Going to push forward and finish my 262 before I return to my A-8. Got the 76 and 82 on, now to put the 81 on. Posted on the RD II thread. I picked up a round cake container that's about 3" deep with a lid at the $2 shop for.......well $2 lol. It's a perfect size for general sized 1/72 or small 1/48, or even subassemblies to cure in a dust free environment after painting. I shot the 82 and then put it straight in to dry.

Nomad she looks great. I too seem to run into silvering decals alot. I like to chuk up a new blade in the knife after the decal has completely dried and give it a gentle slice with the blade right over the places that have silvered. then take a slightly stiff paint brush and wet it with some Future and gentely poke the area with the tip of the brush and flow some Future under the decal. If the brush is stiff it will slightly lift the edge of the decal and capilary action should pull the future in the slice and under the decal filling in the silvered areas and allowing the tiny amounts of air to escape. Just don't poke at the decals to hard. It has worked great for me so far.

SC that sounds like a great, in the past I have re-masked around the silvered decal so that only the silvered bits are showing and sprayed on a couple of thin coats of the base color to cover the silvering that way.

Nomad lovely work on the 190 by the way, she looks great.  Also a quick question, what color did you paint the fuselage on the 109 on the previous page, it looks great.

Cheers

Crushers method has worked for me loads of times. New blade then slice through the silvered area. Then add a small ammount of micro sol or similar to the area. Should be gloden. Do it slowly and dont flood the area,

Mountains of fabulous work happening, guys! Unfortunately I'm buried in both work and volunteer stuff (helping out as conference staff at a gathering of whale experts at my uni for the next three days) so it'll be into next week before I can get to my LHS and pick up the paints I need to get the 190s (and 262!) into the spray bay.

All work looking grand -- I'll be reading but probably not posting till next week.

Cheers, Mike/TB379

Randy if your gonna wait for Frank to finish you best put your feet up till next summer Wink.

Nice spinner work Frank, that A3 looks great could you point me to wards more pictures?

Guy I look forward to seeing another roll off the production line, looking mighty fine so far.

Jeremy, lovely looking airbrush work, top job sir Yes

Mike (Luftwaffle) yours is looking splendid, lovely paint and nice detail on the UC.

Mike (benzdoc) Welcome Sign to the GB. Your work is looking very very nice so far, cant wait to see more.

Damon, when I get those silvering probs I resort to a nice sharp pin/needle and *** the offending area before applying more Sol, sometimes you may need to do it a number of times over a couple of days but it always seems to get the job done... eventually. Hope that helps.

I hope to join the ever growing legion of Mikes on this fine GB soon and break out my Eduard A8, hope I can keep the standard up... Gulp!!

Cheers...

Beautifull looking build Frank. Well worth another look.

Ive managed to crack into the engine plug today. As im planning (I think) to show the gun cover open, i wethered the ammo boxes to get them a little dirtier,

I used Mr Color 'Iron' for the guns. It buffs up to a shine and doesnt do a bad job on the gunmetal in my eye. The rear of the engine that is visible was painted Alclad steel, then it was sprayed with Alclads Jet exhaust roughly to add a bit of depth. When that had dried i gave it a dirty wash of black and ended up highlighting with a drybrush of mithril silver,

and together,

Very nicely done Guy. I think you definetely should build this one opened up a bit to show of some of th guts. I usally like to build them closed up and clean looking but every once in a while I like to open one up.
