Top notch work masking the yellow band Frank! Maybe a pain in the rear to do but it came out perfect.

Nice start Dave! Herman will have a good time sharing fish stories with Guy! Big Smile

Looking good Guy! Picking out the color scheme is the most exciting part for me!

Hugh- You're absolutely right- miss a few days or a week and you miss a lot here!  The pace of this GB is incredibly quick, almost as fast as Guy.  Building, that is LOL.

Speaking of, love that big-tailed best fella!  I gotta build one of those for my collection someday.

Frank nice work on the paint I like that plane something different than the norm.

Dave I have built that kit before it is turning out good.

Guy nice work I want to build one of those kits in the near future.

I am almost done,  all that is left is the gunsight and exhuast weathering. here are pics so far and I will post nicer final pics this weekend. Big Smile

WIP at long last, I've been able to get a spot of work done on the Tamiya F-8. I've got the last cockpit details sorted out in preparation for attaching the canopy, applying the masks and spraying the inside canopy colour (which will probably happen in the morning, it's late here). Here it is:

If the acrylic mixing works out okay I'm hoping to sail along to the end of this one and maybe the Academy bird as well. It'll be good to clear a few projects off the bench, it's pretty crowded at this time!

Fantastic work all round, guys, it's an honour to be building with such a talented crew, I feel I learn something every time I log on, and that's what GBs should be about!

Cheers, Mike/TB379

Mike, coming along nicely too.

Wife is out tonight so I hope to get some more work done tonight.

Bit more progress on the Tamiya F-8 today. Canopy on:

And masked:

Masking is a combination of pieces from the Eduard set and Tamiya tape slivers, this is because the set was designed for the standard canopy rather than the Galland hood. I've also masked the wheels ready for tire black.

It turns out I have at least three planes needing dark gray, four if I can cut masks for the small Academy bird -- I'll see about that, I have some precut sets on order at this time. The others are an Avia S-199 for IDF II, and the cockpit of the Gloster Meteor for Early Jets. I might try to get all of these done in one go, which also means a marathon masking session on wheelwells before I can press on -- but that includes my Tamiya 262 for RD II as well -- yay!

Cheers, will post as progress occurs,

Mike/TB379

Mike/TB379- Great looking progress pics, exactly what I have come to expect from you!  I feel the same as you- learn something every time I am here- great stuff everybody!  Sorry I missed the F-4 Phantom GB you ran, I now have a couple in my stash and am really itching to build one of them!

Guy- You know my weak spot, don't you?  Nothing like a photo of the spinner spiral to make a guy's day LOL.

Mike/Spike190- Thanks my friend, gotta stop talking and get back to building!  No wonder I am so slow LOL. Zip it!

Thanks Spike and Frank --

I'm hoping to spray the interior canopy gray today. Last night I masked the clear panel in the armored headrest of my S-199 -- trust Hobbycraft to find a way to complicate it, by casting the whole part in clear. That'll go into gray at the same time, then I can get the canopy onto that one, mask it by trying out a second usage on the Eduard set I used on my Bf 109 K-4 for RD I, then I can spray some more gray on 190s... It's a production line!

Frank, I was sorry you missed out on the Rhino build (and the eight-wheelers!). There was huge interest in building Phantoms but only a handful of finishers. It's in its overrun for those still working, I'm expecting another completion shortly. The ironic fact is, I'll probably be the very last! I'm trying out new techniques, looking at a mixed acrylic scheme with a clearcoat -- gulp! First time for everything... Never mind, there'll be a Rhinomania II, and I hope you'll come aboard! (If you fancy an early jet -- and what better excuse to knock out another 262? -- check out my Early Jets GB, it just got under way!)

Cheers, Mike/TB379

PS: Thanks for the kind words!

Mike she's looking good mate!!!! am still hammering away on my 262 as well. Close to the finish line so want to get that one done! I must say that GB's are VERY inspirational to start things that would probably set in the cupboard for years. I may commit with intentions but sadly I falter sometimes to life and BAD FITS!!!! AHem sorry bout that LOL! GB's are for me modellings blood!! You get so much out of watching others and learn so much from kits and techniques!! Frank, you need to do something that cruises above 300kts mate, trust me it's addicting! Whistling I do love the perpindicullar whirly things!!!!

Thanks, Richie. I got the RLM 66 sprayed today. There was some overspray that I might sand away from around the canopy before I lay on the colours.

Here's a great reference:

http://falkeeins.blogspot.com/

It's a blog for a Luftwaffe expert, i found it searching on markings for SG-2 and finding my way to a close companion aircraft of the one I'm doing. Immediate post-war US colour photography of Fw 190s in service colors -- wow!

Mike,

I feel really bad about the Eight-wheelers GB.  To be completely honest, I over committed myself this year on GB's.  That and the fact that my current projects on the bench are taking a lot longer that I expected to finish.  If I thought I had any chance of finishing a Phantom in the next month or two, I would jump in as I am itching to build one!  I recently picked up a number of them for a song and I think one is SEA camo would look very good indeed in the display case!  When you do Rhinomania II I am most definitely up for that!

simpilot34

Frank, you need to do something that cruises above 300kts mate, trust me it's addicting!

LOL, like this?

I have two of these on my bench right now LOL.

Hi Frank,

I quite understand, I am so far overcommitted myself it's rediculous. I'm hardly ready to paint my own Phantom, a month after the build ended! As I type this I'm decalling a Trumpeter SA-2 missile that's been on the shelf way too long, and will be great to move off the roster at last. I'll definitely launch Rhinomania II, and there's interest in an Achtraden II as well, so there's two bites at the cherry.

Oh, thanks for my new desktop wallpaper, it looks fantastic! Will I see you at the Viper GB starting in a few months?

Cheers, Mike/TB379

Thanks for your understanding Mike!  I feel much better knowing that I am not the only one.  If only we could all build at Guy's speed!  What a machine.

I saw that Viper GB, but as mine are both built and in the process of painting ( a second time as I botched them both the first time around!) I figured that they did not qualify.  I did receive my resin afterburner cans, seats, FOD guards, and Eduard masks for my Tamiya 1/32 F-4 yesterday so I am ready for Phantomania II!

Glad you liked the photo!  I don't see the blue-tailed one in the air very often, but the rest of the squadrons' aircraft fly overhead regularly.  I was fortunate a couple of years ago to spend a day with the Wisconsin ANG, and they let me crawl all over one of their aircraft.  Even let me play in the cockpit! Frank -- no worries, I wish we could just build models all day, every day! I have about 10 Vipers in my stash so far and still collecting, so I'd better build a few!

Richie -- I have those markings in the Academy -C/Block 32 kit, can't wait to do 'em!

Cheers, Mike/TB379

PS: Now have the SA-2 about half decaled...
