Is the 110 an option then? I have the Dragon 1/32 C-7 sat in its unopened box, courtesy of Spruebrothers half price sale, so would definitely second that.

I hope the  Me-110. I bought the Revell 1/32 kit last year with full PE, and would like to build it with a GB.

Mobious/Vetteman - thanks for the encouragement, i really appreciate it. I think the smudge on the spinner is definitely there to stay!

Mobious - your build looks awesome. Can you tell me how to use the pastels - I might give it a go.

Stumpjumper wow the preshading worked very well for you, and the spinner looks fantastic.  IMHO you should leave the smudges there it adds to the weathering I think. I really like the detail on the gear legs too, the decals and foil add a bunch to it very well done so far.

Maxfax thank you sir, but you know I had to be a bit different with the camo Wink

Mobious oh my, Blue 13 is going to be a stunner Bow Down

Thanks for the comments Rob.I like the idea of the display. Sounds cool. Maybe a photo of the pilot too.

Added the weathering to the A8.  Used  pastels to give variations to the base colors and to help blend everything together. Pastels were also used to add exhaust/MG stains. These were then sealed with a dull coat.

Hope to have the antenna rigged and the drop tank added soon.

I've been away for awhile- I am amazed at the work that has been done!

Mobius: excellent work- love the camo/painting. You are really knocking them off!

Vetteman: again, great work! Interesting camo, I must say.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I bought  Eduard's Royal Class FW 190 A8/R2 set last night on E-bay- not bad for $80! What sold me was a piece of original plane that you can build in the kit- I envision the completed model with a framed display of the aircraft part, certificate, and the replica Iron Cross behind it. I had a hell of a time with my last one, but got a handle on these Eduard kits now.

Stumpjumper, The D9 is looking terrific. The rivet detail is awesome and well worth the effort! The bare metal foil looks great on the oleo.Yes

Progress on the Anton. After looking at the camo lines another dozen times or so. Decided to soften them up with a couple of free hand passes with the a/b. The decals are on.  The fuselage band was done with Valejo paints. Panel lines are a dark violet gray, and a lighter mix was used on the RLM 76 areas. Everything is sealed up with a Laquer clear coat. Waiting for this to cure before final weathering is applied.

Mornin all.

Finally managed to get some pics of progress on the D-9. Underside now has first coats of paint on it. Am quite pleased with the first pass of pre-shading. Might need some touch up and then the weathering (also a good opportunity to completely ruin it...). The time spent on the rivet detail is starting to pay some dividend now. I wasn't sure to what extent I'd apply any washes to it but the Future kind of took some of the decision out of my hands anyway. The white balance is wrong on some of the pics and have given it a slightly yellow hue. The first pic is most true to life  colour-wise.

Also had my first stab at using bare-metal foil on the undercart. I think I like it but it needs toning down a bit with an umber wash methinks. Also painted the spinner using Eduard masks. I am a big fan of these and they're dead easy to use and less hassle I think than decals! Obviously it helps if you dont then do what I did and smudge the black onto the white. I'll have to out that down to weathering Whistling

By the way, I too am wondering what round IV is?!

RD IV?..Indifferent....I must have blinked!  I've been lurking here (and some viewing some great builds-nice work all!) and I picked up a 1/48 Tamiya 190D-9 for RD III-hope to start over the Christmas break.  Also, I've stripped the paint & refinished the 109G-10 that I was working on for RD I.  About 90% complete on that one-I will post pics as soon as I'm finished over on the RD I forum.

btw-what is the theme for RD IV?

Thanks Spike and Mobious

Mobious I like that camo, cant wait to seed it with decals on it. Eats

I will be joining round IV if our leader will be willing to put up with me again, and if I can get my mitts on the subject for RD IV. This group is just too much fun and I have been learning a bunch from you guys.

Vetteman, Fantastic!Yes The camo looks great. An excellent build, and the paint scheme is the icing on the cake. Top notch work. Glad you enjoyed building the Tamiya kit. Hope to see more in RDIV!

Stumpjumper, Thanks for the comments. The D9 was the Tamiya 1/48 kit. It's a blast to build. As for all the answers, I'm still learning myself. There are a fine bunch of folks here that all have shared techniques and tips. First on the list is our illustrious obergruppenfahrfennuegenmiester Tongue Tied

Spike, Got paint on the Anton. and a couple of clear coats. Should be ready for decals.

[View:/themes/fsm/utility/DSC_0003:550:0]

I was afraid the lines maybe too hard, but after looking them over a dozen or so times, they should be ok.

Daywalker thank you for pointing that out, you are right. The legs are raked forward a bit but not enough. I was more concerned with the side to side angle than the rake I have to admit. After looking at other finished pictures, shoulda looked at some before I glued the legs on, I did miss the rake by a bit. The struts are pushed into the sockets all the way but were lose so I had to hold each one until the glue setup. I hadn't noticed it in the past but it seems like the 190's sit really high on the gear.

Oh on another note I was planning to use needles for the wing guns but this is the very first time that I HAVEN'T broken them off during the build, so I decided they had earned the right to stay there.

Hopefully I will be able to join round 4

Randy- Welcome to the finish line my friend!  That model came out beautifully, my hat is off to YOU!  For a self-proclaimed newbie, I would say you most definitely know your way around one of these birds.  Thanks so much for being a part of the GB!  Only critique I can offer is the stance of the landing gear looks off (not sure if it the camera angle or possibly an alignment issue?), seems to be sticking straight out of the wing, as opposed to raked forward.  The position of the gear doors seems to support this, as the longer portion is parallel to the ground.  Are the legs inserted fully, and seated properly?  Other than that, I think it is perfect!

Mobious the A-8 is looking good cant wait to see how it turns out after that last beauty you finished

Krow113 that engine is no less than spectacular am gonna have to locate the thread so I can watch the build

Julez72 this is my second Tamiya kit, the first was an A6M5 Zero. I like the Tamiya kits but this one didn't seem to go together as easily as  the Zero did. But then again the wing root fit could have been my fault it wasnt really all that bad. I am so used to the Revell problems that this one was a breeze.

Daywalker I wish to thank you for hosting a group that has been no less than a blast, and for making the new guy on the German block feel welcomed here. My hat is off to you Sir, and all here.

Finished picture time Big Smile Yeah

I used Model Master Acryl paints and weathered it with with Tamiya Buff lighterned with white paint for the slight fading. For the exhaust I used ground pencil lead brushed on and dry brushed with Tamiya smoke. For the panel lines I used Burnt Umber oil wash. You sadly cant see them in the pictures very well but for paint chipping I used Talon Aluminum Powder applied with the tip of a toothpick, I think it came out very well, nice and subtle not a glaring at you kind of look.

For the weathering on the bottom I again used Burnt Umber washes and dry brushed water colors. This build is a first for me I dont usually build them with drop tanks and bombs on board but to my eye the Trop was screaming for them. so here are a couple I like showing the load she is carrying and the gear.

Thanks for looking, and please any suggestions of how I could have done better are quite welcomed.

Again Daywalker thanks for hosting a grand group Bow Down

Thanks for the compliments ,the work on here is some of the best so far for 2010. The wingspan of the 1/24 Trump D-9 is exactly 17.125" .The engine on mine is well documented in my thread on the aircraft forum. The kit is rudimentary  but very usable. There is a link on page one that goes to an excellent blog of the kit, speakin' of page one I'm gonna see if I'm on page one here....D-9'S ROCK!

Thank you ,Krow113

Krow, That's fantastic. Nicely detailed and paintedYes

Stumpjumper, Not had any experience with the Tamiya paint line. Hope you can get it sorted out.

Vetteman, Thanks for the tip on the retarder, I've upped my thinner solution and the acrylics are spraying wonderfully smooth.

Looking forward to seeing more progress!

Mobious, Vetteman, Krow - top stuff, as always! Krow, that engine looks awesome - how much of it is your own work or is it all the kit. Also, what is the wingspan of the model in 1/24?? I have a shelf but not a particularly big one...

A wider question for you all - I primed my D-9 in silver and then pre-shaded in Nato black. All Tamiya. I've now added the Luftwaffe blue to the underside and fuselage but used Xtracrylics, 50% thinned. The Nato black doesn't seem to like the Xtracrylics at all and has an agitated appearance (almost as if I'd painted over thick dust). Have you had any experience of one type of acrylic paint affecting another??

I'll soldier on, sand and remedy but this is surely the build that never ends....

Spike, thanks for the comments on Yellow 11.  The Eduard kit is amazing. The detail doesn't end with the BMW power plant, the rows of rivets down the fuselage and across the wings are mind boggling. I built the week end edition, but I have the A8 full kit in the stash that I hope to get started on when I have more time. Maybe build an opened up190.

 A shot of the Tamiya 190 A8.

[View:/themes/fsm/utility/Primed:550:0]

Some wet sanding and it should be back to the booth for another go.

Vetteman, Glad you managed to clear coat everything before the weather went South. Be careful with combustibles in the Mancave! Looking forward to seeing the weathering on the F8.

Got the Anton ready for primer to check seams, wing roots, and other areas. Should have primer on it tonight, and if all goes well some photo's tomorrow.

Thank you all for your complements it means a lot coming from you guys. I think I got the AB to paint as fine a line as it was able to but it wasn't what I had in mind. But then again that happens a lot it seems. I am happy with it anyway, and ecstatic that you all like it.

Thunderbolt I am a stubborn man what can I say

Mobious I slid in just under the wire man, got the clear coat on it today and an hour later it got cold and started raining Stick out tongue

Tomorrow the weathering starts, the rain shouldn't slow that down much, because I got me a propane heater for the mancave today.

Randy -- looking good, mate. I think you have more experimental fortitude than me, a run of bad luck like that with the AB and I'd be more than disheartened. You have the ability to apply scientific method and stick with it, and the end result looks good -- clean mottle with no overspray, and the decals are by no means obscured, which is the object.

Well done! She'll be a winner on the shelf!

Cheers, M
