Ok, my last build for this GB. While I'm awaiting all my AM for my Bf 109 for the Weathering GB I picked up this from my LHS. Quality is terrific! Nice panel lines and rivets on the fuselage, great cockpit detail, gun bays, wheel bays. Also going to try some tricks to get nice subtle aluminum definitions in different shades. I'm also going to try Alclad for this build.

These mid range 1/48 Tamiya kits are really something.

Hey I am working on my second painted NMF here are some WIP pictures but first the box art and sprue shots.

Got the fuse together but it took a bit of pushing pulling and creative clamping to keep the joints as clean as possible

I used the Aries Escapac ejection seat, didnt want to try scratching one. It was a tight fit in the tub but a bit of careful sanding fixed that. And as you can see there is a huge gap where the HUD should be, however that was removed in the Streak Eagle to save weight. The noise cone is going to have to be glued in sections to keep the seams as clean as possible. As for the metallic gray green I mixed Tamiya green and Metallic gray with a bit of dark gray added to darken it a bit more. Anyway it was a best guess from the pictures I have. I don't think much of it will show once the canopy is on so I don't know why I was so worried about matching the color.

I hope to get more pictures up on Sunday but we will see how things work out.

Posting from Flickr is totally possible...I usually use PB because 1) the posting workflow is way easier and 2) my family doesn't get all up in arms about all the model photos getting in the way of kid photos. 

I wrote a post awhile back about posting images, since it seems to be one of the most common questions that comes up on the forum. It's focused on Photobucket, but the Flickr process is covered as well:

My current project is a Tamiya 1/72 P-47. It will be finished in NMF and will be totally stock...including the decal seat belts. The P-47 is practice for another build. The second build will be of a Italeri 1/72 C-119C Flying Boxcar in NMF. I am hoping to include that one, also. But not sure if I can complete the 119 in time.

  The cockpit has been assembled and painted with Tamiya Flat Green. Highlights have been done and most of the wash has been completed, except for the seat belts. So, I am working on how to tone down the seat belts. Then I will spray some matt to tie it all together. Tamiya makes a nice cockpit  with more detail than I have seen in some larger scales.

  Part of the tail section has cured and will be sanded. The curve of the part made for some creative clamping. Here are some pics of my progress.

  I wish I had made the seat belts out of tape. Oh well, live and learn. This is only the second aircraft I have ever built. In fact, this is the second model I have ever built. That is why I am using the P-47 as practice for the C-119 'Boxcar'. My father earned his 'jump wings' on a C-119. So, for his birthday I want to present him a model of the 'Boxcar'.

  Anyway, all suited up for spraying Alclad onto the engine.

Julez & Gamera thanks gentleman for the kind words. This kit is testing me well, I will have pictures showing the latest challenge tomorrow, a 1/16 step between the nose piece and the fuse joint.

Julez I am totally ecstatic over the completions in this group, and they are all works of art too loads of talent here I must say. I was thinking I just may have to use the second page  as I am not sure how much each page will hold.

Tayler I have seen those markings on a NMF build and all I can tell you is that you made a very good choice my friend. Cant wait to see them on your P-51

AlterEcho man that is some very nice detail work on such a tiny pit. I am looking forward to what comes next.

I've got the gun bay done and almost finished the office. It has taken a while, I punched out all of the instrument dials from the decal sheet and applied them separately. Also it will be possible when completed to get a hint of space behind the instrument panel so I have decided to wire these up for some extra detail.

Next comes some weathering just to highlight the details in the cockpit and guns.

I noticed a few pages back or in another build someone referred to the Tamiya kits as "shake'n'bake". Couldn't agree more, these kits just put them selves together!

Casper, yeah the shake n bake comment was me, thats what i like about Tamiya, the ease of construction allows for some very nice superdetailing like you have done there and adds a whole new dimension to the Model....

Got the drop tanks and the wings fitted, the dihedral hardly needed the tape the fit of the kit is so good, but it can't hurt in the end.

I like the way the gunbay and the cockpit snugly fit in;

Also a lot of nice detail in the wheel wells and under the cockpit. This stuff should look outstanding after a black wash and highlight.

I know, I was saying that this was going to be straight out of the box...but those engine cylinder heads looked so bare, I couldn't resist. So I added some spark plug wires and the weathering is pretty much done. As you can see, once the engine is mounted bare cylinder heads really stand out. The paint I am using is Tamiya and Vallejo. If I have the proper color then I prefer Vallejo. Otherwise, I am using Tamiya until I fill out my Vallejo collection. Weathering is taken care of by Vallejo wash's. Vallejo's wash's really are the bomb...straight out of the bottle or mixed with water. Next sub-assembly are the wings...
