PANZERJAGER - That's a really nice looking Marder III you've got there!  It's going to be a beaut when its done!

SupressionFire - That's some fine interior detailing going on!  I LUV the scratched periscope glass!!  BTW, I just realized all that is 1/72!!Surprise  Holy cow!

castelnuovo - Interior is coming along great on your 38!  I noticed that you added me to the list, but how did you know the Italeri kit is an Ausf. D?  It doesn't say that anywhere on the kit.

castelnuovo,

The interior of your 38(t) is looking great!

Up to old tricks, fashioned a periscope out of dollar store swimming goggles.

Here it is at a random length through the hull....

Suppressionfire, that looks Yes

Here is a bit of a progress from me. Nothing is glued yet, just a dry run. I tried to create a bit of a fuel spill around the caps on fuel tanks, hope it is visible.

Cheers...

Bufflehead,

Cool AM accessories for your 38(t)!Cool

Progress has happened! Took Sunday off to build all day!

Scrapped this interior after finding the Doog's thread. Decided to get it more accurate...

Back wall will drop in from above, fenders too thick so will replace with sheet styrene.

Floor rough so added sheet styrene instead of filler, scratch built drive train. 75mm ammunition poor boy lathed out of styrene rod. Discs cut out of shell holder w/ new punch set.. really impressed & wonder how I did without one for so long.Hmm

I don’t know why, but even with newer, nicer Dragon Ausf. G and Tristar Ausf. E/F in the stash, this old Italeri kit just jumped out to me begging to be built!  Maybe it’s the lower parts count, or maybe that its been in the stash longer, or maybe the fact that its sort of an underdog…whatever, this is my GB choice!

These AM items were bought long ago:

Jordio Rubio aluminum gun barrel

Dragon individual track links & road wheels

Bought this a few months ago. Not sure why, but I’m glad I did!

That’s it!  Well, I might add some scratchbuilt items and/or parts from the scrap bin if necessary…..if necessary Wink

Building starts Sunday!

Sorry for the late response!  Thanks castelnuovo for letting me join the GB!  I've decided to build the old Italeri Pz. 38(t) with some AM additions to spruce it up a little!  I'll post photos this weekend and start building!

Like I said when I saw this at your house, love the "Allis Chalmers" tractor seats and the rear "rumble seat".  This is one cool little panzer.  For all the rest of you guys on the forum,  you really have to see Tom's models in person.  The pictures don't do them justice.

castelnuovo,

Planning on scratch building the interior.. why? because it can't be seen! All ready decided to scrap what is done in there and get it more accurate as I pulled up the Doog's thread on his excellent Hetzer. All good just more delays and not getting in enough quality bench time Grr!Super Angry

Anyhow till I get some progress worth a few pictures that is all the up-dates I have right now.

Hey all, is it too late to join this GB?  I've been out of the modeling loop for a few months and need something different to get me motivated again!  Never built a 38(t) kit before, but I do have 3 different kits in the stash (Italeri, Dragon, & Tristar).  Even though the GB started 2 months ago I think I can finish at least one on time (I hope Whistling)

BTW, everyone's been doing a great job...those are some nice looking builds!  YesYes

WQW,those tracks look magnificent.I don't believe I've ever seen anything as grand as those.Actually they look like they could so be filed you know where. These nasty creations are Italeri? Holy crap!  Are they soft plastic?? I feel you're pain manCrying

Lucky they are normal plastic. I would prefer 'rubber band' type instead as link style in 1/72 scale should be banned! All good, something new to challenge my modeling Kung-Fu. Besides I have always built & painted tracks, wheels and lower hull separately. Its time to step up to new techniques.

Progress on the Hetzer!

Without 'cutting & pasting' from the 'no AM GB' thread I will briefly summarize whats been going on in my lill' work shop...

^^^ self explanatory, decided on the styrene barrel as the aluminum tube had too larger of a I.D.

^^^ Turn baby turn! Separation between the rim & tire deepened w/ scriber for ease of painting. Poor boy lathe in action again!

^^^ Italeri's revenge! Yipes the horror...the horror! Also the kits space between the double wheels had to be narrowed on both front & back sprockets.

^^^ The making of nightmares! This is why I fear the dark...may the engineers who designed these tracks be demoted to janitors!

No worries, x-builds are OK.

Tanks buddy!

Itty-bitty link & length tracks made me decide to build the lower 1/2 before painting. Some are in lengths for the straight runs, aiding this I removed the plates above the tracks for assembly & ease of painting. Also pictured is the gun, found a 1/8" aluminum tube to replace the kits (GASP!) barrel. May scratch build the gun breach if its decided to open the hatches.

General thinner! If said hatches are opened its best to thin ASAP!

Heh fellas!

Not only did the Hetzer arrive today, I set up my new dedicated work space! (pictures to follow) Not big or fancy yet my lill' corner to escape & build models... live the dream!

Here is a picture of the version I intend to build & some corrective measures taken on the lower hull. Easier to remove than add the injector pin marks were raised, unfortunately some sink holes to fill as well. The suspension springs will need some work as well. All good & plan on a few scratch built modifications to enhance the basic kit.

I hope its ok, this build is in 2 GB's... the NO aftermarket GB as well.

Thanks bbrowniii. It has been poited out to me on the armor forum. I guess it makes sense as the white would  uin the camouflage effect.

Cheers...

Don't feel too bad about it.  I learned that the same way you did - posted a build with the white interior on the hatch....

All in all, still a very good build!  One to be proud of.

Nice 38(t) Castlenuovo.  I love that tank and you did it proud!

One point, if I may, for future reference.  I believe that the inside of the turret hatch would normally be painted the exterior camo color.  Not a big deal, and definately does not detract in any significant way from a really nice build!

Gentlemen,

Thank you for your comments. I will take a little break from building as I am experiencing a bit of SPB (small parts burnout Smile )...plus work plus a baby Smile . My book on French Foreign Legion has arrived and I'll read that before I attack the Marder III.

Cheers...

castelnuovo,

Tanks buddy!

I hate to over extend my GB commitments yet could not resist this one. Excellent subject for a GB. The version I am going to model I had seen in a documentary of the Warsaw uprising. If memory serves correct the captured Hetzer knocked out two Panzer IV's and then destroyed the gate to the ghetto area freeing the prisoners. Soviets were asked to help yet stood back as the fate of the German opponents was made by overwhelming firepower. A small piece of WWII history, important to be remembered none the less.

Change of plans!

Found a Italeri 1/72 scale Hetzer with markings for a unit captured during the Warsaw uprising & used against its former owners! I have wanted to model this version for some time and now have the kit ordered through Squadron. It should arrive in a few weeks, the GB is until fall right? Cool, count me in once the order arrives!Cool
