Julez those control rods look like a nightmare that turned out very well for you, and I really like the base you came up with. Are you using CA glue for glue on this build ?

would an entirely scratchbuilt item be valid for this?

Randy, yeah buddy i'm useing a CA glue for this one but not a 10second superglue,one that sets in 4 minutes to give me a bit of time to make sure everything is in the right spot....

I was unsure about the base and was thinking about adding some mud to make a little dio base but i think i;ll just leave it be....I'll also be adding this figure to the base to give it a sense of scale...

Yeah provided i can do a decent job on it, i've never done a figure before

iv done a tsr2 whiff in raf markings (see front page) and im currently ripping apart a wierd ef111 so i can do the same to it :)

Sometimes it's nice just to waste the weekend on a little project. I like the idea of a straight out of the box, no scratch, no extra build. This little Academy 1/72 P-39N "Russian Ace" was great! I started at 12pm Saturday and finished 6.30pm Sunday. Not expecting it to be part of the build but I was so pleased I just wanted to post her for peoples enjoyment!

Ok, so I don't know how it happened and I', not going to blame anyone....but it seems I have a Group Build Compulsion Disorder!

It's the need for all kits in my stash to belong to some sort of GB. When I built the little P39 over the weekend with no GB attached I realised I had a hole somewhere in my strategies!

Ok, so Vettes, I would like to add another kit to this GB. Still months to go so this may not be the last but I think most of my stash and kits on order or in transit are now relegated to one. I picked up from the goodfolk at HLJ Hobbies in Japan (highly recommended, I bought a kit online the day after the earthquake as my way of helping and supporting the Japanese economy and they actually shipped it 3 days later! That was 4 days AFTER the quake, amazing! They are also donating 4% of their sales to the relief effort so I think I'll be buying more soon) an He162 Salamander in 1/48 from Cyber Hobby. This has some great detail that some 1/32 kits would be proud to own.

There also is some PE in the box (it's in the box! ) and some lovely crisp and detailed sprues. It has the option of an exposed BMW engine so I am going to go to town with some scratch on this for the build.

scrap the scratchbuilt 1/32 star fury idea iv got 2 more instead :)

1 is a scratchbuilt 1/700 habakuk style nuclear powered 1970s era carrier im probably going for around 4 feet long which would make it 2800 feet long and around 400 wide!! il also try to build some 1/700 vulcans victors and tsr 2s for it

plan number 2 is slightly less ambitious but only slightly more plausable lol

it consists of 2 1/48 scale tsr2s 1 will be raspberry ripple scheme and will be a tech demo and will have features including canards lerx wing roots leading edge slats massively blown wings/flaps much longer and probably different air intakes fly by wire controls and hugely powerful thrust vectoring versions of the olympus engines (circa 55-60,000 lb of thrust)

sounds ridiculous BUT iv not plucked anything out of thin air eg apparantly an engineer told somebody they had an olympus engine running at 68,000 lb of thrust in the 60s! etc etc

version 2 will be the in service version of that probably with an rwr tube out the back like a flanker and probably with an f15 style bubble canopy because it will be a fighter bomber like the strike eagle

1 thing id need to do is move the canopy back which would require me to lengthen the fuselage to keep the cockpit the same distance from the wings

Eatthis your EF-111 looks great and yes I did kinda like the paint job before you changed it, gotta admit it was a very different camo.scheme. Thats a bunch of work to get done in 14 hours too, but I have to be fair and cant really accept the build for the group. I have turned down a couple of other builds that were at the paint stage as being too far along as partial builds.

Oh yes I will swap your Star Fury build for these modified TSR2s, sounds very intriguing to me to be honest. I really like the idea of a canard wing on the TSR for a few years. kind of like the modified F-15 they were playing with at Edwards

Wish I could come up with ideas like these, but then as slow as I am would prolly never get anything done.

Casper I dont have any idea how some of you guys build so fast and so well, that P-39 is very very well done indeed. I like the markings and leaving the door open is a great touch, looks like you took time to do some detail work on the pit too.

Ok so Casper and Eatthis I really like your builds and will create, I think an Honorable mention section or something like that so I can get these two builds on the front page. If thats ok with you guys.

Some nice little bits of detail in this Dragon kit.

Quite a bit of work in the wheel bays. Most will be fitted when the plane is painted, I only have about 30% of the piping and fixtures supplied by the kit. Cockpit also looks a bit busier than at first glance. Engine is lacking a little bit of detail so I have added some copper wires of various sizes.

With some extra paint and weathering the engine should look good.

If this He162 was 1/32 scale I would have definitely put more work into the engines. I actually took some stuff off. At 1/48 too busy cannot look right. It looks better with only a few bits of piping whereas the ME262 looked great with about 3 times the amount. Funny how scales work huh?!

...but I am happy with the way this looks. It's a small plane so I don't want to lose the effect of the overall impact. I've now sewn up the plane and put the wings together. Not a lot of parts in the kit but a satisfying little project!

Casper your detailing is spot on IMHO, you always seem to know when enough is enough.

Sorry for the double post I updated the front page and forgot to ask  Eatthis are the TSR2's Arifix kits and what is the scale. Casper your build is now listed on the front page also

yes mate both airfix 1/48 kits 1 will have an f15 canopy too ;)

I just want to check, what amount of scratchbuilding is needed to qualify for this GB?

I have a project in mind that might fit, and since the Shinden I was working on is now going to be either some kind of salvage project or kitbash later I have some room in my "in progress" lineup.

What I'm thinking of is an "Interplanetary UFO Mystery Ship" with added plating detail, a few greeblies, and kitbash parts from the scrap pile to make it into a "Reaver"-style ship from the Firefly TV series.

Kugai the rules are on the front page, but out of box builds are acceptable, and as your build seems to have loads of scratch building going on it should fit in. The only things that are not accepted are any commercially available detail sets, conversion sets, or decals sheets. Kit bashing is fine and spares box parts are ok as long as they are not aftermarket parts. We do have a couple of purely scratch built builds going on. Your build sounds interesting I hope you can join us.

Thanks for the response.  I just wanted to get clarification since the definition of "scratchbuilt" sometimes varies, and some folks I've run into wouldn't consider what I have in mind ( stuff that isn't from a kit being limited to some patchwork-effect plating with styrene sheet, a few wires and such, and whatever's needed to fit the add-on parts from other kits ) to fit their definition.

I just figured it was better to check ahead of time to avoid misunderstandings than start up and find out later that I wasn't customizing/scratchbuilding enough to meet the intention of the rules.

Ok, this little bird is put together. Odd shape, especially with the wings at the top and the double tail. Also the wings sweep backwards She also sits quite low.

Ok so got the canopies drying after being dipped in Future, next some gap filing, masking, priming then the first coats of paint.

Ok, here's a weird question....

Has anyone ever had experience with wheels cracking? It's happened to the HE162 and it also happened to the Meteor. Both times I had affixed the wheels to the landing gear and after a couple of days the wheels had cracked almost through the middle.
