Ma.K Group Build 8/2010-8/2011

Todays progress.  Think I might try my hand @ putty joint covers.  This puppy is ready for primer.

What did you use for the little metal screws/allen bolts and the wrist-ring thingy? I just spent an hour combing HLJ looking for something similar.

Sorry CJ, you wont find any of this stuff on HLJ.  The alum bolts and brad rivets came from Model Motorcar.com, a supplier of parts f/Pocher kits.  Has all you need, the things are usable everywhere.  For a nut/bolt, the alum ones are the sharpest of any plastic.  The wrist band is a HQ Parts wrist band to fill the gap between the wrist and hand of a Gundam.  Very handy and I just love how it made the hand look like a sealed space glove, even though I know the hand is mechanical.  I have added well over 50 pieces to the suit and like the results.  Hope to get primed today.  I am on vacation and will leave out in the morning for the coast, but I have the whole day to play w/my toys.  If you need a wrist collar, contact w/address, I will mail one to you.  The plastic parts are from Starship Modeler, O-Bolt set 1 & 2.

One of the things I do not intend to add this time is all the cables you see attached to a AFS.  Ie: foot/arm.  I will add the laser cable and the larger ones.  Ordered a braided line from Starship Modeler and it is too big.  Need to find the same type bu smaller dia.  I would very much like for it to be a braided looking hose, not the norm as used, nor do I want to use a Snake Chain this time.  Any ideas fellas, or does anyone have some 1.5 Fiberglass Braided Sleeve?

I want the suit to look self supporting and not having cables running everywhere, but rather self contained.  After all, this is not a land based, but a Space version!

For those who are wondering what a Ma.K  Scout Flier is here is a drawing and todays progress on the 1st part of the base/frame for the craft.

Pretty much done with weathering, still need to add the hip armor plates, power cables, arms and canopy, but you can see now how things are going to look when everything is said and done.

The base is almost complete as well, still needs a bit more vegetation.

GM, I must say that I'm very impressed that you're scratchbuilding  the scout flier.   I can't wait to see your next progress post!

ponch, WOW, I like this very much.  The suit, the paint job and the base all come together to tell a very good story.  My hat off to you sir.  Really like the Panzerfaust and the crate, very realistic.

Well, I'm as done with this as I'll ever get.  I put all the pieces together, attacked the suit with yet another coat of powedered pastels to simulate grime (you can never have too much grime on MaK ) and shot some pictures

Another Ma.K completed on the Ma.K GB.   Way to go ponch, your idea of the suit standing watch w/a crate full of Panzerfaust is just great.  Really like the results.

We got to keep this thread working, so I'll post where I am @ on the SF.

Have the Luna Pawn primed, will post some color shots soon of this build.

Trying to finish this one up and add to the case.  Still have some work to do to the suit, but the base is done.

Here it is built. Been a VERY long road and here it is before primer and paint. Hopefully things will tunr for the better and let this thing finish out smoothly. Anyways some of the mods/changes. To start the aluminum engine bells also are wired with red LEDs in them. So i wired it to a switch at the base that will turn the engines on/off. Next i added some brass tube in for the sight and gun and wraped the cannon with wire. On to the right arm where i added some kind of rocket launcher. Then there is the hand that i swaped for a gundam hand, but did some modding on top of the hand with styrene and brass wire. The rest is sanding, scribing and aves. This model has posed many first for me in modeling. So its been rough going, but i have learned a lot from this endeavor. So on to primer, paint, decals, weathering, clear coat, and fixing to base. Its Monday night and the show is Saturday we will see if things will go without a hitch.

Out freaking standing iafrate.  I had wondered when you would post again and boy did you knock it out of the ball park.  The mods are just great, do wish you could have posted a photo of those engine bells lit up.  Looks to me you have many skills to share and I hope you get done in time for the show.  Would love to have the WIP on that hand, these types mods make a model sing, and yours is singing load and clear my friend.  Oh what is it singing;  Shinning Star!

GM: I’m digging that flyer so far. I like the step-by-step, as it shows how easy this stuff is to do. More please. Also, good to see the AFS almost done. The cactus on the base really does help.

Ponch: That’s quality work. The chipping is especially convincing, and the lenses in the binocular/sighting device catch the light nicely.

Iafrate: Lots of good mods there. I’ve built the Fliege, and I know it’s not the easiest kit to assemble. Nice work. Best of luck getting it to the show on time. If not, there’s always next year.

Got some small but significant progress done on mine, but still haven’t figured out how I want to do the “wrist” joints. Pix to follow.

It's complete! Been a long hard road with many bumps, but its done in time for the show today. The LED light didnt work out just how i wanted it though. It's very dim, i think this is due to the plastic piece that holds the LED in the engine thruster. Speaking of the thruster, those were completely scratchbuilt. The LED light along with the leads go through the center of the engine piece. The second thing that i didnt like was one of the custom decals didnt set right, It did something i've never seen before. It seemed to set only on the edges which leave an a pocket in the middle of the decal. All the decals got the same treatement and that is the only one that didnt set right. I think the adhesive didnt release right or something. Overall, it came out nicely with a little bit of hiccups.

Vacation over, returned home today after a Fishing Trip to the coast of NC for those little monsters called Blues.  Caught sooo many, got sick of catching them and just watched, now that is a fishing trip!!!!!!

Picked up some need parts for the SF from modelbuilder and Bass Pro Shop.  Hope to post more progress photos soon.  When I got home today, a package was waiting for me on  my desk from Starship Modeler and I got the G-Pawn I ordered, the land based version of the Luna Pawn.

Took parts from the Luna Pawn, some extras from the G-Pawn and w/the AFS Mk1 I sacrificed for the SF, I know have enough parts to build the AFS1, which I will start on this week.  Many great projects going here on this GB and I am pleased everyone is having fun, after all, that is what it is about.

Here is where I am @ on the Scout Flier.  Bass Pro Shop provided the much needed bulbous radar unit and following along by looking @ a photo of a Rainbow Egg resin cast, the only kit available of this subject, I was able to ID the exhaust pipe on the bottom, so I am trying to add what I can in the design as was done from the original, al be it, I have also done my own interpretation too!!!!

Also included is the start of a Nitto SF3D AFS Mk1.  This will take the place of the FUBAR'd Luna Pawn!!!!!!!!!

I have had to return to the drawing board on the Kreb. Lower hull and legs are not working out. Alas though, I have a Mel on the way to keep me occupied.

Had time today to work on another project I am building besides the SF, the Nitto AFS Mk1.  Most of the assembly is done with the exception of a few parts and ready for texturing.

Nice! Quick too. I like the strapping on the side cable, gives it a field-modded appearance. Good work!
