Hercmech Doogs: Looks great, what did you use to get the streaking? I might have missed it, so sorry if it is a redundant question.

No problem - don't think I mentioned it. Basically, a filter wash of artist oils brushed in the direction of airflow. I used raw umber, then lamp black on top of that.
Once the filters were laid down, but still wet, I went back over with this crazy brush I found at Hobby Lobby awhile back - the Aqualon Wisp:
The "fingers" do a great job with streaking effects...and I figured it'd fit well for a Mossie operating out of England, what with all the drizzle.

And...she's done.
Here's Tamiya's De Havilland Mosquito NF Mk.II, dressed up for service with the 157th squadron based out of England in 1942:
Close up of the forward fuselage. Also, a better view of the streaking on the wing surfaces.
Doing exhaust staining on a black aircraft is hard! I'm really happy with the way the exhaust shrouds, tires and gear struts came out, though.
Overall, a very enjoyable build, hiccups and all. I don't know that I'd call the Mossie one of Tamiya's best kits - it's a very good kit, but IMO still a step or two behind the masterful P-47 series.
I'd also caution anyone looking for an "easy" build to not take on a black aircraft! The paint turned out to be the most challenging aspect of the build...who would have guessed?
Doogs,
Came out looking great. Thanks for the tips on the streaking and the black paint job. I have the same kit, along with the Beaufighter, Widow, and a P-38 I was going to do in a black scheme. I figured it would be easy... but after seeing the difficulty doing the black gave you, I may have to readress my plans.
I love the dirt you got on the struts, they came out very realistic and not over done, as is the case with a lot of weathering like that. Great job on a your build.!

Another beautiful build Doogs.
Excellent...I want to turn into a mosquito and suck the blood out of a bat...

Trey, and Doogs: fantastic work, both of you! Front page is updated.
Hercmech, your Gekko interior pieces look good. Looking forward to seeing them glued together.
Cheers,

- yat yas!
Hi Greg, even though I haven't got underway yet on this GB, can you put me down for a fourth build? I got my hands on a Tamiya 1/72 JU 88 C and I think this qualifies?
Cheers
On the bench: A-4F 1/32 Hasegawa
Just deployed: F6F-5N Hellcat Nightfighter 1/48 Eduard
Up next: A6-E Intruder 1/48 Revell
hey everybody, don't think I have forgotten abut this GB. I have just been busy with classes and finishing up other GB commitments. I hope my offerings can compare to the outstanding work being done here!

Now that I'm here, where am I??
Doogs, nice lookin mossie. Looks better than mine anyway (not hard) i like the satin finish. One suggestion though. For a bit more of a dirty looks streak some matt over it. Ive read in several places that early on they rubbed coal dust onto the aircraft to give it a really matt look. Right up until they discovered it made it Light up under searchlights lol.

Isn't that taking the whole Aryan 'superman' thing a little far???
Gee I pop out for the weekend and miss all kinds of coolness:
Jbrady: The Beau looks fantastic! Love the copper cowling bands and the paint chipping looks spot on.
Trey: What can I say? Another beautiful build. Love the mottling and all around great job.
Doogs: Wow the sketter turned out great. Love the streaking and the cool looking work you did on the exhausts.
Satch and Herc: Great looking work guys, keep the pics coming!
I did get some work done over the weekend. The P-61 is coming together, I've been treating her like a limited run kit. Will get photos up when I get the main parts together.

Satch,
Looking great...Love the preshading and how it shows through. Looking forward to seeing it all wrapped up.
satch_ip Doogs, sweet Mossie. Are going to enter that in the Austin Show? Hope to see you there.
Thanks! Not sure if I'm going to enter the Mossie, but my 109 and P-47 may well be there, and more, depending on what I manage over the next few months!
That 110 is looking pretty slick! I need to do another light-colored something so I can get more practice with pre-shading.
Trey - the Arado came out great!
Scorpiomikey - thanks! From what I've read they tried to keep these pretty smooth to maximize airspeed - think I'm going to go a lot further grunging up my next Mossie NF.II - a Night Intruder model based out of Malta. It's going to be a full-on dio, though, complete with Aires engine set and an engine being replaced after catching fire. Should be a nice challenge!
Gamera - I just picked up a Widow on eBay...don't think I'll be tackling her any time soon, but this thread will be great to revisit when the time comes!
I love this GB and want to marry it---that's a first for me...
Now if you did that Manny what would your HO....229 GB think?
Its all Vance's fault---he hasn't given his HO enough attention...
Man you guys move fast.
Doogs, the Mossie looks Superb. I'm looking forward towhat you have planned for the next one.
Trey, the Ar 234 NF turned out great too. You're really pumping them out fast. I hope my Arado turns out half as nice as yours.
Satch, the preshading turned out great.

It's true.

Hey guys. Heres a couple of the intruders pit. Not too happy with the IP or the seats. Thinking about getting some AM seats for my other one. But i dont think i did too badly for 72nd scale.
C&C welcome. The IP is in but the CP is still awaiting installment. I need to shave a little off the edges for it to fit right.
Okay, here are some in build pics.
Sorry it took so long

DoogsATX greentracker98: Hercmech: JBrady...what can I say it sucks. Between you and Doogs, I am beginning to think there is a "dark" pall over this group build. Makes me nervous as I proceed on with my Gekkou. Hechmech, Just keep those "dark pall" thoughts to yourself. I'm not going there Ken So far it's only been the allied birds...I'm blaming the Luftwaffe!

Mike that office detail is awesome ,especially considering its 1/72 wow!
Eric von I do'nt think the meds are working or you need to up the dosage;) when are we going to see the Uhu build start?Really looking forward to seeing it
Greentracker nice start,looking good!
Cheers trey. I keep looking at it think "wish i could do better" lol. Anyone built the tamiya (italeri) intruder? Any advice on the wings? cant seem to get them matched up.
Doogs- another excellent addition to this GB with your Mossie. Fine, fine job. I also might look for some of those brushes myself......
All right, entering the home stretch with the 110. Cammo applied and glossed, decals applied, now ready for flat coat and wx.
Have to go back and attach all the small details like the radar and the wheels after the dull coat. Then she should be finished. I'm hoping today, depending on what the wife has planned for me...
A word about Peddinghaus decals. They make beautiful decals of subjects very hard to find but they are EXTREMELY fragile. Even on the paper the ink can wear off with too much handling and they are very susceptible to breakage during application. Don't know if it's the crappy Testors gloss or the decals but they silver too. They will lay down nicely and with care look good. I got tired of trying to apply tiny stencils so don't look too closely.
Looks good Satch. One question if you will...maybe stupid but whats the deal with the markings on the vertical stabs? I assume they are mission markings or something just wondering.
