Is anyone out there interested in a Pearl Harbour Group Build?

We can have an American and a Japanese group build.Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]

I'm game ! I've got a 1/48 Hasegawa A6M2 that's been sitting, dormant, in my closet for too long.

Anyone needing practice masking canopies is encouraged to tackle a Japanese aircraft. Here's a site with great info & pics on WW II Japanese planes :

http://www.j-aircraft.com/index.htm

Aircraft for the IJN are :

B6N "Kate"
D3A "Val"
A6M2 "Zeke" (Zero)

For U.S. :

P-40
PBY Catalina
B-17 (D?)
OS2U Kingfisher (or Naval catapult biplane - I forget the name-[SOC 3?])
B-18 Bolo (I don't think there's a kit, but it was based on DC 2 or 3)
Not sure what the Marines had, and there are probably more U.S. aircraft that were there.

I'm game to try a group build again. I had not finished a couple of Sci-Fi ones I joined but I've been swinging back to more WWII subjects lately. I just aquired markings for my 'Zeke', 'Val' and 'Kate' kits to be part of airgroups from the 'Zuikaku' for the Pearl Harbor raid.

As to Pixilatier's aircraft list, I also have a Hobbycraft P-36 I wanted to do in Pearl colors so as to display it as a Pearl Habor defender along with my Monogram P-40B/C

yahoo it's here!!Smile [:)]Smile [:)]Smile [:)]

thank you obiwan for getting this thread startedBig Smile [:D]. and an even bigger thank you for going for the kate!! i'm not ready for the mother of all masking sessions on that canopy yet!!Black Eye [B)][:0]Laugh [(-D]

i'm going to do the hobbycraft p-40b "pearl harbour defender"; i plan to do plane "300" of the 78thPS, 18thPG which flew out of Bellows Field that day; these are the kit's own decals, but if anyone can suggest any good aftermarket ones i'd be grateful.Smile [:)]

pixilater, re other aircraft flying that day, aeromaster do some decals of lt larry brown's P-36A; i would have done this aircraft but couldn't find a suitable kit anywhereDisapprove [V]Disapprove [V]Disapprove [V]
if anyone knows of one, here's the link to the aeromaster sheet (aircraft#3):

http://www.eaglestrikeproductions.com/cgi-bin/amddecals.pl?scale=48&setid=325&dbs=aeromaster&pgs=2&currpg=1&dclimg=ad48325&prfx=

i think aeromaster and yellow hammer should provide decals for most of the other aircraft that flew that day.

AJACKETSFAN
i guess there's no need to sweat it on the time frontTongue [:P]...i've still got to finish my panther, and the sherman group build has just started as well!![:0]
oh, the power of the dark side, eh obiwan??!!Laugh [(-D]

looking forward to it all....Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

ps obiwan, good to see you spelt "harbour" correctly!!!Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]

Thanks for all the replies especialy to my man pix for the
breakdown of aircraft.

AJACKETSFAN;when the group build is finished is not important as long as
we exchange ideas and have fun.Tongue [:P]

Aurora-7:maybe we should each try to do one from both sides.perhaps
too ambitious?

plum1030: not to worry I'm sure there'll be plenty of time.also it''ll be great
to see some progress pics of your cosair.

AND pix....blast off and lead the way!Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]

Also, I have zero, kate and val all in 1/72 (maybe I should do all three). Any suggestions on research info for markings? I'll skip US planes for now as I've been working on a lot of navy planes lately. (all 1/72) I need to get those progress pics going on my 1/48 corsair.

Wow! What an interesting concept. Part of me thinks that this is a neat idea and that some great kits will be built as a result. But another part of me thinks this is like making a September 11. 2001 group build. The Pearl Harbor attack was a horrible chapter in my country's history.

Am I the only one with conflicted feelings on this topic?

This post is not meant to be an attack on anyone, and I certainly won't think poorly of those who participate in the build. In fact, I'm looking forward to seeing the finished kits! I just have mixed feeling on this particular topic.

lufberry hiSmile [:)]
well i'm very surprised to hear you say thatDisapprove [V].
although i'm not american, i feel i can appreciate the event and it's consequences just as keenly as you guys. how much longer would the war have gone on - and would the allies have won? - if japan did not drag america reluctantly into the conflict??
although there was a tragic loss of life, i try to see the "bigger picture" and what it allowed america and the allies to achieve on one level; and on another level, it is a testament to how quickly a determined and ingenious nation can recover from such a setback.
finally, from a purely modelling point of view, it was one of the key events in a conflict with which i am fascinated, and hence wish to model.
just my thoughts....

nick

nmayhew - Hobbycraft has a P-36 (kit #1546), available from Great Models for $12. I'm unaware of the availability in the U.K. Here's a link to a review. There are links to the kit in the box, along with the aftermarket cockpit set used.

http://m2reviews.cnsi.net/scotts/allies/us/hcp36.htm

Hope this helps.

I'm up for it. I'll do a Tamiya A6M2 and a Hobby Craft P-36. Since the Sci-Fi group build hasn't really taken off and I did not finish my Enterprise in time for PCModeler's build, I have to redeem myself some how. Maximum effort this time. Starting tonight.

Anyone have a Pearl Harbor picture of a P-36?

Here's a link that shows aircraft at Pearl:

Lufbery you shouldn't think of it like that. I in no way condone the acts of the Nazi's but I would love to build Luftwaffe fighters. It is just a page out of history. Saying that, I can also see your point and I don't feel that anyone here would take offence to you not taking part.

Aw heck, from the other point of view, maybe one of the best ways to commemorate the event is to build models related to it.

Just some thinking I've been doing.

FWIW, I think both P-36s and P-40s managed to get into the air that day. The markings were overall OD, grey undersides. The insignia was the big white star with the red cirlce in it.

Nick- Malaysia was under British colonial rule before 1957(the japs had the run of the place for 3 years).so we learn the Queen's english(and spelling) in school .However since its an American base "harbor" would be better.Smile [:)]Tongue [:P]
and i'm a big dark side fan (Vader.....you must confront Vader)

ok now to get enough members and make this a sticky.

ps; good point on the significance of this event.war is terrible
but modelling brings out the beauty that is deep inside of it.

Here's some Eagle Strike decals that are available from Squadron. Anyone want to do a split on one of these sheets? I'm going to need markings for my A6M2.
