Nick, I ordered it from Hannants, just under £10. Comes with resin bits.

By the way, I re-uploaded the weathering 'tutorial' pics...

I would be interested in joining the group build. I can do the grumman sbd-6 duck. The only problem is i cannot find any pictures of it at pearl harbor and basically cant find any pics of it at all. Does anyone have a link to that sqadron signal book.

having dry-fitted the lower wing to the fuselage and been quite pleased with the fir on my hobbycraft p-36, i repeated the process having put the cockpit in, only to find that the cockpit floor interfered with the wheel wells!!Angry [:(!]
unable to sand or saw because of the flimsy nature of the whole structure i resorted to heating up my x-acto over my gas cooker flame...and with one masterful incision the problem was gone!!!Big Smile [:D]
note: junior modellers DO NOT do this unless supervised by an adult, and this was only done as a last resort.
don't want to be blamed for someones house going up in smoke now, do i??!!Tongue [:P]

I did some more work on the Zeke cockpit today. I scanned a pair of IJN belts, and I'll either use them as pattern for foil or paint them. I will probably have pics tomorrow sometime of the finished pit. The fuselage halves are together & sanded. Work will also begin on the Verlinden PE flaps.

My "Pixi-Geschwader" will receive gloss coats tomorrow also.

Movin' right along here. Maybe I'll start another (non-Pearl Harbor) IJN aircraft to keep myself buisy !

The cockpit for my Zeke is nearly done. I just have to paint the gun breeches. Since I'll be using Alcad (requiring primer), I decided to paint all the metallics at once. I'm going to try painting the Aotake-coated surfaces in light aluminum first, followed by clear blue. If it works, I'll post some pics if anyone else wants to try this on their IJA aircraft.

Here's the cockpit. I scratched the belts from foil & micro solder. I also drilled the lightening holes in the seat. I used Model Master RLM 62 for the color, as it closely matched a pic I found on the web.

Thanks, obiwan & John !

obiwan - I almost lost it trying to bend the buckle. I figured that the ones holding the lap belts to the seat won't be seen, so I saved myself a little aggrivation.

John - your site is looking very professional. Nice graphics (I like the tumbling "New" icons !) Thanks for putting the pics there !

i've got the tamiya UHU as wellWink [;)], but am not touching it until i am way better at freehand mottling with my iwataDisapprove [V]...anything less i feel i won't be doing the kit justice.

got the wings and tailplane ogether on my p-36, so at least it looks a like something airborne now! apart from my mini-nightmare with wheel well interference, the fit of the wings went pretty smoothly.
now got to get some paints for the thing! anyone know what tamiya colours i should use for the underside grey and olive drab? i've got 2 polly scale OD's, and still have no idea which one is which!!Tongue [:P]

hmmm, UHU group build...like i said i'm not sure i can do the paint job justice at the moment.Disapprove [V] i think i read somewhere that a guy did the camo on a german nightfighterby doing the dark mottle as the base coat, then doing light coloured rings over the top...said he found that easy than regular mottling, but i'm not convinced![:0]
miht have to seek the advice of pix on that one i thinkTongue [:P].

When I first opened mine I was like ' My God! This is great!' but then it sank in that I better practice my airbrushing a bit so I could get that camo patten right.

My He 219 was another victim of Moving Day. I lost over 100 built kits when I moved last time. This one survived better than most. The main gear is completely shot. I might have the gear doors, & I can probably replace the radars & just use it for in-flight pics. When you invest all the time & money in these, its hard to just throw 'em out !

sounds like everyone is well on their way, oh well. my late start will be a p-40. i have decent b/w photos and i know the p-40 is well covered on the net. 18 pg seems to be a popular group the number of the plane is 41.

I said i would build the j2f duck. Problem is i have the j2f-6 kit, and i dont believe the 6 variant was around during pearl harbor time. On this site http://www.ww2pacific.com/aaf41.html under the marines it says they had a j2f-4. The 4 had a different size cowling than the 6, and i dont know how to make my own parts. Now under the navy planes section all it says is j2f duck. If anyone knows the type of those because it would be a big help. If they are j2f5s i would be able to do it because the 5 is the same plane as the 6 only it has a more powerful engine, which is not visibly noticeable. Also is there decals ??

And also, do the planes need to be serially numbered like they were on dec 7 or do they just just have to be the same variants such as a p-40 b or c??because when i saw the pby on a previous page, i wondered if those were correct markings from dec.7 or earlier.

this question has most likely been asked but here we go again. where do i find either usaac fighter markings (black), the early insignia usaac, or if all else fails black decal sheets.

fightinjoe - a good source for decals is :

http://eaglestrikeproductions.com

You can do a search there by type & scale. These usually show you the profiles, in color, along with info (useful to find out if the markings were at Pearl). They can be found discounted at many on-line hobby shops, such as Squadron & Great Models.

Yope you find them.

thankyou pixilater, you and the others are proving to be a wonderful source of information on both history and modeling.

benne911, your question on the j2f may be answered or at least partially answered at http://www.nastillamook.org/gallery/aircraft/index.htm at least i hope this helps somewhat.

nice He219 pix .You did that beautifull and gracefull plane
justice.I'm sure tamiya will provide replacements for
the missing parts.

on another note..finally started painting the cockpit of my kate.
weird yellowy green colour too.however the kit looks very
promising.

is it alright if i do a j2f-6 duck. They didnt get created until 1942 but earlier variants such as j2f-4 or 5 were at pearl. Reason is i would convert it but they dont sell cowls for it.
